There were such high hopes when the Dems took over Congress. I guess it just took a little time for them to get into the swing of this legislating thing.
Story 1:
Reid to Keep Senate in Session to Prevent Recess Appointments
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has decided to keep the chamber in session over the Thanksgiving break to block President Bush from making any unsavory recess appointments while Senators are out of town.
In a statement inserted in the record Friday, the Majority Leader said he will hold the Senate in a series of pro forma or nonvoting sessions to prevent the controversial practice. In the statement, Reid argued that nominations need to get on track, and that Bush has not met the Democrats “halfway” in agreeing to Democratically backed nominees to “important commissions.”
Story 2:
Democrats Unable to Bring Troops Home
Nearly a year after anti-war voters put them in power, congressional Democrats remain unable to pass legislation ordering troops home from Iraq. Frustrated by Republican roadblocks, Democrats now plan to sit on President Bush’s $196 billion request for war spending until next year _ pushing the Pentagon toward an accounting nightmare and deepening their conflict with the White House on the war.
“We’re going to continue to do the right thing for the American people by having limited accountability for the president and not a blank check,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.
What backbone? Their failure to pass a defense budget that isn’t full of pork.is going to put our troops at risk! Hillary has already said she is going to keep the troops there if she is elected. So what is the point of playing these games? Are 20 billion dollars worth of earmarks that important to this do nothing congress?
The Dems don’t want to bring the troops home.It is to good of an issue to let die.As it stands the Repubs are twisting slowly in the wind because of a war they started. This is politics people.
The Bush Administration is letting Democrat nominees linger? They haven’t confirmed the Republican nominee for two years. And two of the FEC recess appointments were Democrats. Harry Reid didn’t even bother confirming his own party’s nominees. Yup this is politics, and Harry Reid and Co have decided they don’t want to confirm Republican nominees. Then he turns around and in the article wants credit for confirming the Attorney General. So he wants extra credit for taking much longer than normal and leaving an important cabinet department without a confirmed leader.
As for the war, they have been 0 for 40 so far, so we’ll see what he does.
It would help if Harry Reid would take a look back at the Gingrich years. The government shutdown that he engineered put everything in Bill Clinton’s court. Now the President will probably start by cutting contracts for union workers, and blame it all on the Democrats.
This will teach the left’s base to get motivated to vote. Good job!
What this says is that Congress no longer gives a f$%^ what the president wants.
Bush and his staff have been wrong in EVERYTHING that they have done during his two terms. EVERYTHING.
No one single item that can be even remotely called a positive for America in seven years.
Given that track record, we should do exactly the opposite of what the Bush administration wants, since that will be the road to success for America.
It’s like going to Vegas. What do you do when you see someone with the worst luck in the world? You bet opposite and win. Bush has made the wrong choice EVERY time… maybe we should just go with the opposite choice from what he makes from now on?
The Democrats are withholding $50 BILLION out of $170 BILLION in SUPPLEMENTAL expenditures, stuff that is outside of the main Pentagon budget.
Why aren’t any conservatives asking how the money is spent?
50 BILLION dollars is a lot of money… how the hell are we spending that given the results so far?
I for one would like to see at least some accountability.
Early bird gets the worm?
wow, nice picture… Bush and the turkey? Are they on a first name basis?
(Is her name Monica?)
Hey, is Bush getting a “Turkey Job” in that photo? What a perv.
This is totally frustrating, why are we there in the first place? Is there something we are not being told? What was/is so important to put up with this shit? Let them kill each other if they want to.. And if they are so much of a ‘terrorist threat’ nuke one of their big cities… with a 100 megaton H-Bomb! As a demonstration of what will happen to them if they don’ t layoff the West.. Say our ‘GOD’ command us to do it. They will understand that, right?
Flush this congress right down the drain… worthless POS.
#9, meetsy,
Nope. Its name is Legacy and look at who’s holding it.
This is a can’t lose situation for the Democrats.
If the Senate passes the $50 B supplemental, Bush has to bring the troops home.
If the Senate can’t pass the $50 B supplemental then it is because the Republicans are stalling.
If Bush wants his money then he should convince the Republicans stalling the process to vote for the supplemental. ¾ of America wants us out of Iraq. If the troops go without money it will be because of those Republicans stalling the process.
Guess what we have coming up in less than 12 months? Riiight. An election where Republicans will have to explain why they:
Supported Bush
Cried about Democratic “Pork Barrel” politics when most of the extra money was going for Republican bullshit including Laura Bush’s “Library Program” and the George Bush Sr. Library.
Didn’t support our troops
Voted against health care for poor children
Supported Alberto Gonzales
Supported unaccountability from the White House
Supported unaccountability in the Pentagon
Supported unaccountability by the State Department
Gave Blackwater immunity
etc., etc., etc.
How did it happen that the Democrats are being blamed for the obstructionism of the Republicans?
It reminds me of inner-city people who blame the cops — rather than the criminals — for crime. After all, the logic goes, the cops did not stop the criminals.
So, the Democrats are being blamed because they are not stopping the Republicans.
