The new Polish defence minister has said his country will withdraw its 900 troops deployed in Iraq next year.

The previous government of Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the former prime minister, had extended the deployment of its 900-strong force until the end of 2007 and planned to send more troops in 2008.

Tusk said in November it was important that Washington recognise that his Civic Platform had won power with a pledge to “end the mission in Iraq at least in its current form, in 2008”.

A public opinion poll last June found that 81 per cent of Poles were opposed to their soldiers’ deployment alongside US troops in Iraq, with only 15 per cent in favour.

Politicians who campaign on an issue of importance – and actually deliver on their promise. What is the world coming to?

  1. MikeN says:

Well Poland was there to provide support when it truly mattered, and brought most of Eastern Europe with them.

  2. John Frazier says:

I still haven’t forgotten the phrase repeated by the President during the debates, “you forgot Poland!”

  3. >>Well Poland was there to provide support when it truly mattered

When was that? Before the whole world gave up on Dumbya’s stupid war, Dumbya himself, and the United States in general?

It’s going to take a generation (if not more) to undo the terrible damage that imbecile has inflicted on our country.

  4. MikeN says:

Keep dreaming. So many countries have gotten leadership that doesn’t reflexively campaign on being anti-America or anti-Bush. Maybe leaders in this country could learn.

  5. >>Keep dreaming.

I’m dreaming of January ’09. There’s light at the end of the tunnel.

As to being anti-Bush, is there really anyone in 2007 who is NOT anti-Bush?? Even the neocon hatemongers are deserting him like rats from a sinking ship.

  6. dumbya never quits says:

How low can you go when only 15% of Poland thinks your war is worth a shit? Embarrassing.

  7. ECA says:

    Wheres the OIL from Iraq??
THOUGHT they were supposed to be pumping it dry to PAY for this war?

  8. cheese says:

900 troops? I have more cousins in Iraq than they have soldiers.

I’ll bet they have more contractors over there than they have troops.

Errr…. well, so does Halliburton, I guess. Ahem.

Lets talk about facts, not wishes.
When they really withdraw their troops you can say it again, for now its just the talk. As history proves all politicians are lying pigs, so don’t take it seriously until they really do it.

  10. Cursor_ says:

Good its about time the rest of the world pulls out and leaves the US behind.

MAYBE then we will get out of there.

Isn’t anyone else going to not what a funny picture that is!

As for the Poland thing — how much does it really matter. Bush almost never talks about the “coalition” any more.

It was a fraud at it’s best and it’s a joke now — most Americans have figured that out by now (except for, maybe, the very slowest among us.)

  12. Mr. Fusion says:

What an effen legacy this moran will leave for all Americans. I am so very happy to see Congressional Democrats finally saying “NO” to the President. When they find out the sun still rises in the morning and the American public support them, I hope they re-consider the impeachment proposal.

  13. Peter Rodwell says:

#7: Wheres the OIL from Iraq??
THOUGHT they were supposed to be pumping it dry to PAY for this war?

The theory being proposed by various sources now is that Big Oil wants the Iraqi oil to stay where it is, in the ground, to keep prices – and profits – up.

Read Armed Madhouse by Greg Palast for more details on this and many more otherwise undocumented features of the Bush regime.

  14. MikeN says:

    Regarding your photoshop,
I’m not sure how the Poles are protecting the president.
Imbecile refers to someone whose mental acumen is well below par, while the president has an IQ that is around the 90th percentile, which is known based on his military entrance exams.

Lying: what lies are you claiming the president has made?

Ass, perhaps all the previous refer to the president’s donkey, being protected by Polish soldiers.

  15. Smartalix says:

    14,

The Poles were part of a general ass-covering in the lies leading up to war. Bush could claim yet another ally to support his cause.

The lies were many, but the most glaring are those about the march to war.

I personally think he isn’t an imbecile, I think he’s worse. He’s someone who could do the right thing but doesn’t. It isn’t that he doesn’t know about the issues, he only bothers to find out the parts that support his decisions.

  16. savagesteve13 says:

I’m surprised the Poles didn’t leave after one of Bush’s flunkies gave away the positions of their special forces teams to the press. Poland’s GROM teams were operating in Iraq undercover and Polish officials don’t like to talk about it anyway, but Bush’s junior college graduate officials were so happy to have some coalition friends at the time they leaked information about GROM….where they were, what they were doing.

Not as bad the Valerie Plame thing, but it certainly pissed off the Polish Government.
