I was always told that Christianity was a monotheistic religion but I want to challenge that because clearly it is not. First the definitions:
- No Gods – Atheism
- One God – Monotheism
- Two or more Gods – Polytheism
First, I’m not even going through the “Holy Ghost” thing except to say that “Trinity” means 3 and 3 > 1.
Assuming that:
- God is a deity
- Jesus is a deity
- Jesus and God are individuals
Then God and Jesus are two and 2 > 1.
Therefore Christianity is polytheism.
Polytheism isn’t a matter of belief. I personally am a Realist and I don’t believe any of it. However when one objectively classifies religious beliefs based on the number of gods, I’m counting two. Some would count three, but either is greater than one.
The reference is the Bible. According to the stories Jesus and God are two individuals. God was in the Old Testament, Jesus was not. Jesus was born of a virgin, God was not. Jesus addresses God as a separate individual. They have different stories. They have different roles. That talk to each other the way separate people talk.
The bottom line is – they are both deities and they are two individuals. Therefore Christianity is a polytheistic religion.

Jesus is God
John Chapter 1 Verse 1 says:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
And a few verses later In John Chapter 1 Verse 14 it says:
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Come out of the darkness my friend, Jesus is standing and waiting for you just to give him a chance, he says:
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne
My friend you do not have to be afraid, for I know you are afraid. I love you and if I love you how much more does Christ who is your savior love you?
I’m sure you have heard:
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
I know Christ because he changed me. For I was once a man of great sin far beyond forgiveness (At least I thought so). But while I was yet a sinner and unclean Jesus revealed himself to me and change me from the inside out. I became a new creation.
My mind was changed and I did not do it. I could not do it.
I am still a sinner but cleaned and covered by the blood of Christ’s sacrifice.
I WAS ONCE LIKE YOU, WORSE THAN YOU, BECAUSE I KNEW THE TRUTH AND CHOSE TO IGNORE IT.
“For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
Jesus Christ came to save the lost that is me and that is you.
When we pray, asking God for the gift of salvation, we’re exercising our free will to acknowledge that we believe in Him. That demonstration of faith pleases God, because we have freely chosen to know Him.
Give him a chance just pray this prayer of salvation with me and if you are sincere God knows and he will hear you.
Pray this with me:
God I realize I fall short and I realize I need a savior because my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, I repent and turn from my sinful ways and turn toward you. Please forgive me and help me to avoid sin in the future. I do not know what is going to happen to me when I die and I want to know. I believe Jesus died for me and you raised him from the dead and he makes the way for me to be reconciled to you. Jesus I don’t know you, I don’t even know if you are real. I don’t understand what you are all about but I want to know. Jesus I invite you to be the Lord of my life. Cleanse me and make me a new creation and teach me your ways. I accept your sacrifice on the cross for me. I pray In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Friends, if you pray this prayer with a sincere heart Jesus heard you and he has given you a new life. You are now a follower of Jesus. This is a fact, whether or not you feel any different.
Do not worry that you do not understand everything; it will come to you in time. God’s Holy Spirit is our teacher, our helper, our counselor, our comforter, and much more.
The Bible tells us that your eternal salvation is secure, it says:
“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
First find a bible and read the gospel of John in the New Testament.
Then find a good church in your area that teaches the bible. There will be someone there to answer your questions.
God bless you in this Christmas season. If you prayed to receive Christ into your heart this Christmas will be special and blessed for you indeed.
