Given that she describes herself as a human pet – and is happy to walk around on a lead – Tasha Maltby is used to odd looks and even odder remarks. But nothing had prepared her for the reaction of the bus driver who allegedly told the self-styled Goth and her boyfriend: “We don’t let freaks and dogs like you on.” Miss Maltby and her fiance Dani Graves were so angered they have complained to the bus company of being “victimized”.

“It is definitely discrimination, almost like a hate crime,” 19-year-old Miss Maltby said yesterday. The music technology student had this defense of her lifestyle.

“I am a pet, I generally act animal like and I lead a really easy life,” she said. “I don’t cook or clean and I don’t go anywhere without Dani. It might seem strange but it makes us both happy. It’s my culture and my choice. It isn’t hurting anyone.” The bus driver, however, has obviously not been listening. He has repeatedly refused to allow Mr Graves, 25, and his “pet” on to his bus in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. Last month, with Miss Maltby on a leash as usual, the couple tried to board a bus at the bus station. The driver, who was off duty, was standing near the door. Mr Graves alleged: “He shoved me off the bus. He called us freaks and he called Tasha a dog.

An insult to dogs everywhere, Woof!

If you’re gonna act like a dog you need to be prepared to be treated like one.

  2. Awake says:

Republicans are right… this liberal lifestyle is condoning beastiality! Next thing you know they will want to get married!

PS. Isn’t that a picture of two girls?

  3. Sea Lawyer says:

“… almost like a hate crime”

This tells you how out of touch with reality this kid is.

  4. McCullough says:

    #4. Or at least funny.

  5. Les says:

Does he realize how silly he looks? They have every right to dress and act this way. The rest of us have every right to heckle them.

  6. Chippy says:

At least he cleaned his shoes!

  7. lucidologist says:

No matter what we think of there clothing or odd behavior they should be able to ride a public bus provided they are not disruptive. It is a slippery slope when we allow public services to be withheld on the basis of clothing or beliefs.

  8. Jägermeister says:

Hey, let them onboard… then advertise that the bus has onboard entertainment.

  9. Li says:

I have to agree with #8, the strange looks they get should be punishment enough. And calling a woman a dog is just out of bounds, even if she is on a leash.

  10. Named says:

Can’t argue with her guns though…

    Hey look…

    People who look different…

Quick Jeb, let’s get to persecuting…

The things that make us hate other people are often the most superficial things a rational mind could imagine.

  12. the Three-Headed Cat™ says:

Yes, wonderful how ‘liberal’ and ‘tolerant’ people have no problem shitting on nonconformists – they just make sure first that they don’t belong to any “protected” group. If they don’t they’re fair game for the old caveman instinct of shunning and rejecting those who are different.

I’m proud of you bunch, keeping a time-honored tradition alive.

  13. McCullough says:

#12. I dont hate them, I dont pity them. I’d let them on my bus. They seek attention, and they are getting it.

  14. JPV says:

She’s fairly cute… and has a killer body to boot.

  15. the Three-Headed Cat™ says:

Wish I could remember who said this originally:

The race of men are sheep in credulity but wolves in conformity.

    How true it is…

  16. Rob R says:

What happens when she’s around a fire hydrant?

  17. Hey, I say let her on — I mean it’s not like she’ll shit on the seats like a dog might.

Did anyone ask her if she’s been a good girl today?

  18. jccalhoun hates the stupid spam filter says:

How could someone think to themselves, “I’m not going to let this person ride public transportation” and not think, “I’m going to get my ass sued off”? And rightly so. He’s an asshat.

  19. DaveW says:

How do you know she won’t shit on the seat?
I suppose she was wanting to ride for free as well.

But I’d let them on the bus, until some disruptive behavior started. It most likely wouldn’t take long.

Oh, and how many dogs do you know that wear dresses????

  20. boo radley says:

Did anybody notice that the article states they have been on welfare for some time. I wonder if he takes his pet to job interviews.

  21. OhForTheLoveOf says:

    #14 – They seek attention,

    Says who?

You honestly don’t think that some people might just like dressing that way?

  22. Mister Catshit says:

    #13, Three Headed Moran,

What makes you think “liberals” are so anti “non-conforming”? All I see here is the typical “insert foot in mouth” bigotry you are known for.

  23. Animal Mother says:

What a killer bod. Drop the skinny loser, babe, and find yourself a real man!

    Woof! Woof!

  24. Phillep says:

B&D. She gets her jollies being a submissive.

Sheesh. What a bunch of innocents hanging out here, you can’t even spot that?

  25. the Three-Headed Cat™ says:

I was a little hasty, considering few commenters actually criticized ’em…

As far as the driver being an asshat, that’s putting it mildly.

Two things about him: A) He’s gonna catch Holy Hell from people all over the UK, and rightly so; and, B) It’s pretty goddamn shameful for an Englishman, of ALL people, to knock someone else’s lifestyle. Eccentricity and nonconformity are as fucking English as Shakespeare and Tower Bridge. The world’s pioneers and leaders in tolerance, fer X’s sake, they virtually invented that pillar of civilization.

That driver is a right bastard and brings shame upon the English people.

There’s a little more detail in the local paper.

The comments to The Mail run strongly against the driver…

  26. bobbo says:

I walked into a train station bar in England one night and the only other person there was a young dude with a purple mohawk, tatoos, body piercings==the whole bit.

So I bought him a beer and we played a round of darts waiting for the train.

Kid was just like any other I have ever met. I still find that kinda odd. It is “just dress.”

  27. jlm says:

    intolerance is awesome

  28. boo radley says:

Her father must be so proud.

  29. FRAGaLOT says:

The point is the bus driver is a douchebag. Though I get the feeling that this couple have been purposely getting on to this drivers bus to harass him, since reading the post this has happened repeatedly, even when the driver wasn’t on duty. But it’s the bus drivers own fault for making him self look like an asshole.

  30. blakjak says:

I think everyone defending these two and attacking the bus driver is missing and important part of the story…

The girl states “I am a pet, I generally act animal like and I lead a really easy life”… if this is true then she can’t reasonably complain that a human being treated her like an animal.

It’d be great to get the bus drivers’ version of this story as I doubt it’s as simple as he doesn’t like the way they dress.

If it is the policy of the bus service that pets are not allowed on the bus, and she wants to be a pet, then she is not allowed on the bus, and the driver is expected to enforce such policies.
