My wife and I went to Orlando for a few days after Xmas and stayed in a very upscale four star hotel. I had seen this report before I left and the first thing I did after checking in was inspect the glasses in the room. They had finger prints and lip prints on them and obviously had only been rinsed out. This is a widespread problem in this country with all the legal and illegal Hispanic hotel maids. I guess they were raised to different standards in their country.

You can’t just blame that on different standards growing up – you also have to factor in management not communicating American standards or no caring.
I’ve always wanted to bring a black light to a hotel – then chickened out and preferred not to know. Especially if I were to find glowing spots on the ceiling like I’ve heard reports of….
I am soooo glad I don’t travel for a living anymore.
This revelation falls into the rather broad category of ‘things I don’t want to know’.
You got it right, Hop. In their relatively ignorant peasant culture, even if they’ve heard of them, they don’t really believe that something you can’t see can hurt you. It isn’t laziness, they simply don’t see the need for it and don’t accept, in the time-honored fashion of ignorant peasantry everywhere, that others might know things that they don’t. It’s one of the indispensable ingredients of peasanthood, which gets passed down from generation to generation, and keeps peasants peasants.
The Mexican restaurants in Houston that I absolutely will not eat at are the ones which cater to the exclusively Mexican clientele. The meat, you’ve never seen such fat and gristle; I literally wouldn’t feed it to a dog. Mex or Muslim, or whatever you please – the stupid people of the world stay stupid, and even when presented with the opportunity to learn by example from more developed cultures, still stick with their inferior one, since their thinking cannot rise above instinctive ethnocentricity.
You go THC … keeping speaking Truth to Stupid. For all the good it will do.
The first thing I do in any hotel room is strip off the bedspread, you know its nasty, especially in Vegas, ick.
I did travel for a living and standards were low.Super 8 had one of the most responsive Corp.management teams at the time.I was at first regarded as a chronic complainer but they soon saw me as a friend.Things to do when you check in 1.Spray all door knobs and t.v. remote with window spray and wipe.Anything people touch on a regular basis should be sprayed.Ask for an extra blanket and pillow at the desk and pull the bed cover off and leave it in the corner these are filthy. The fresh pillow guarantees a clean pillow case.Always wear shoes, flipflops,or socks when walking around your room.Athletes foot is a common problem.Wear flipflops when showering and don’t sit in the bath tub.Athletes ass sucks.I am not crazy clean but after a few years traveling you realize just how dirty the rooms are.
Before we get stuck in ethno mode, let me echo the only intelligent posting #1 has made==this has nothing to do with culture, intelligence, values or anything else other than management training.
If you truly need details to what is intrinsically obvious–disagree and say that intelligent hardworking white people wouldn’t do the same thing if not required to do otherwise.
PS–by happenstance, on one trip I did have a black light. Nothing wrong in 2/3 rooms. Third room required a change of location.
Really, now, Improbus… I’m just a ‘racist bigot’ who refuses to get with the program and admit to the Marxist “egalitarian” credo that no individual – or group – can possibly be different from any other. Everyone’s identical to everyone else; I’m just not enlightened enough to realize it… 😛
“I guess they were raised to different standards in their country.”
Yeah, down here they actually do use soap to clean the windows.
Weird. Every hotel I’ve been in for years has plastic glasses that are wrapped up in plastic wrap. You toss them out when you are done. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hotel with actual glass glasses that get reused. Yuk. I’d never use them if I ever did see something like that.
WTF is wrong with you people? In that video I don’t know about you but I saw a White woman, African American Woman, and a Hispanic woman. How did this turn into a game of “Bash the Mexican” Hey why not blame it on women? They were all women. You know exactly why you don’t! It is because Mexicans are an easier target.
This is more of a problem with the Hotel industry. They don’t employ enough workers and they put large demands on them. Demands that will cost them their job if they don’t work fast enough.
That last cleaning lady looked white. I’m glad I only stay in the 2-3 star hotels. Sealed plastic cups baby!
House kee-pee!!! When was the last time you saw a LEGAL immigrant working the house keeping? This is why I have my trusty tumbler mug I take everywhere. Healthy and Eco-friendly.
While it would be easy to blame the cleaner / housekeeper, the fault lays with Management. If it was entirely the cleaner, then the carts would be filled with clean glasses to replace the dirty ones. Think back to the last time you saw a cleaning cart. How many clean glasses were on it?
@THC
What does race have to do with stupid? People of all races and socio-economic status can be stupid. In fact, I have met quite a few well educated idiots. Remember, ignorance can be cured but stupid is forever.
Here in Las Vegas maids are given a specific number of rooms to clean in a specified amount of time (the # and time varies by hotel and type of room). They are also told what items are to be replaced. Imagine a room with 4 or more 21-30 year olds, drunk and partying? How would YOU like to clean up after them for $8.50/hr?
Welcome to the world of the working class.
This is a very spread issue. It’s OBVIOUS that if you hire someone for housekeeping it won’t hold a diploma for anything in her/his house, and if you hire someone without requiring any education you’ll get probably someone that never attended even 5th grade, and if it’s illegal immigrants from the south, believe me, I’m from Mexico and live here, the most ignorant people, the ones that can’t do ANYTHING in mexican production plants, people that go from the most remote villas in the mexican country is the people that get’s to the US. They don’t know anything about anything but growing crops. So at least if the management is cutting costs in labor by hiring peasants, they should at least spend some time and effort explaining to them what they must do, what happens if they don’t, etc., because they’re like toddlers in most respects. They are not stupid, just ignorant, and totally unexperienced. If you train a mexican well, he/she will work for you better than anyone else because they know what real poverty feels like. There are not many US citizens that have felt that maybe since the 1930’s. But keep an eye on them with stealing for instance, because that’s another thing they don’t understand very well, so you should teach that too.
” with all the legal and illegal Hispanic hotel maids. I guess they were raised to different standards in their country.”
Can you be any more racist please? All hotel maids are Hispanic? And all Hispanic people are dirty and have low standards?
Way to perpetuate the racism, DU!
Not entirely sure that I like the suggestion that foreigners are dirty.
Anyone ever consider the fact that these are some of the poorest people… they can’t afford to travel let alone stay on 4 star hotels. Yet everyday, they are forced (so to speak) to clean up after people that CAN.
Do ya think a little resentment might be brewing amongst these “servants to ‘rich’ people”?
Most of the places I’ve stayed at had disposable plastic cups.
I don’t understand why they got upset over the one maid who sprayed the glasses with blue cleaning fluid. I wouldn’t want to drink dishwasher detergent either. Spraying the glasses with cleaning fluid of some sort, rinsing them, and wiping them out with a clean cloth seems ok to me.
Most asanine statement I’ve seen today:
“This is a widespread problem in this country with all the legal and illegal Hispanic hotel maids. I guess they were raised to different standards in their country.”
I’ve been in many, many hotel rooms around the world over the years and the ethnic background or race of the cleaning people has nothing to do with poor maintenance and cleaning.
Oh, if only the maids were white trash. Then they’d be snortin’ crank and those glasses would be CLEAN.
Always have my own coffee cup and bottled water, been doing that for years.
Funniest thing I ever saw was in LosAngles CA, picking a friend up at a fancy hotel and caught two mexican guys peeing into the ice maker. They were drunk
Simple solution.
Break the glass, and give yourself a small cut with it, after wiping it down with alcohol. Complain to the hotel that you are going to sue them for giving you a broken glass, and that you could have bled to death, and you will not only get a clean glass, you might even get your room for free!
My wife cleans our room anyway, she’s funny that way, we usually leave the room cleaner than we found it, and she insists on leaving a tip. Thats what happens when you marry a clean freak.
Not all were Latin. Also, it’s what you get for minimum wage and poor enforcement of health code in the US. I’m sure you’d see this everywhere these days. Remember that KFC hotel with all the rats running around? So many laws and so few health inspectors and enforcers. I’d blame the hotel and management for this and fine the hell out of them in order to make an example of these companies.
Shame on you blaming it on Hispanics in general!
I travel for a living. I’ve stayed at an extended stay hotel in the Chicago area that had bed bugs and other than moving me to another room, hotel management did nothing. The same hotel had a guest with a pet. How do I know this? The dog crapped in the hallway and the owner didn’t clean up after it. I’ve had rooms that the beds were just remade instead of having been stripped then linen changed. I only use the plastic wrapped glasses at a hotel. You want dirty? Try getting a clean seat on board any airline.
I’m never too surprised to read such racist remarks from the forum trolls; however, I’m a bit shocked to read such ignorant and hateful remarks coming from a forum moderator. It makes me sad that John hasn’t edited your offensive remarks, hhopper. I thought you folks were a bit better than that.
You are so wrong on so many levels, that I hardly know where to start. I’ll try. First, not every brown skinned person in this country is an immigrant. Brown people have been living here a lot longer than us white folks have.
Second, first generation immigrants, who come here from poorer countries, tend to be the most motivated people, the lazy ones stay home. As a group, they are far harder, and contentious workers, then the people who are born and grow up here. I challenge you, and any other elitist xenophobe who happens to read this, to take a moment, climb down off your high white horse, and try working side by side with a group of first generation immigrants. I guarantee that it will knock your pampered white ass in the dirt, just trying to keep up. Don’t fret, you can have your Hispanic maid clean the dirt out from under your fingernails. Take a hot shower and wash twice with a good anti-bacterial soap, and be sure to gargle, that should take care of any inferior germs you might have gotten from working next to the little people.
Third, I spent 29 years working in food service, and hotels, plus ten years living at a motel with the gal that ran it. If you think that this problem is anything other than a management problem, then you are sorely mistaken. Management knows exactly how many rooms are taken, how many guests, and know how many dirty glasses that should entail. In well run hotels, maids don’t sterilize room glasses, the person washing dishes in the kitchen does. It is far easier to grab a clean glass off the cart and replace it, than it is to stand there and wash and rewrap it. Ignorant and lazy people tend to do things the easiest way. This is obviously a practice that the management not only knows about, but actually encourages.
