My wife and I went to Orlando for a few days after Xmas and stayed in a very upscale four star hotel. I had seen this report before I left and the first thing I did after checking in was inspect the glasses in the room. They had finger prints and lip prints on them and obviously had only been rinsed out. This is a widespread problem in this country with all the legal and illegal Hispanic hotel maids. I guess they were raised to different standards in their country.

  1. hhopper says:

I’ve stayed in many hotels over the years, and only recently, with the huge influx of Hispanics in Florida, have I run into dirty glasses and bathrooms in quality hotels. I can’t believe that it’s the management that comes up with the idea of having the maids rinse out the glasses in the rooms instead of replacing them with clean glasses that have been sterilized to save money. Give me a break. I’m just reporting what I see personally. It probably has nothing to do with a particular race, it’s just the attitude of people who work in the lowest jobs in our society. I think alobos hit the nail on the head in comment #18 though.

Freaking Americans, blame everything on your neighbours to the South. Ooooo they are so backward, they just don’t have the same standards as we do…

HORSE HOCKEY! It’s likely got more to do with the bottom line of the hotel than it does the maid staff. Even IF it were the staff, then it should be the MANAGEMENT’s responsability to ensure that the staff are performing their duties properly.

Still, you won’t blame the managers because they are not of Mexican descent, right?

    AMERICAN XENOPHOBIC BIGGOT KNOB GOBBLERS.

  5. J says:

Wow just wow. I can’t believe how people justify their racist views. I can only wonder what race will follow the Hispanics in the line of who we consider to be the piss boy class.

  6. JimS says:

Sure 33 comments down you back off a tiny bit from your disgustingly racist remarks, but no edits to your original putrid remarks. It’s not very convincing. I spent nearly 30 years training more than a thousand people for low wage jobs in the service industry. It is an absolute fact that first generation immigrants tend to work harder at those types of jobs than all but the slightest few of the workers who are born here. I spent the years working side by side with them, I know.

You want to blame it on the laziness and ignorance of a minimum wage worker. Since it is quicker and easier to replace the glass with a clean one from the cart, why would the lazy worker take the time and effort to wash them herself? You’re an educated man, explain to me the logic in that. You probably figure that she happily does the dishwasher’s job because she’s poor and non-white, so obviously she’s sleeping around with the whole kitchen crew. Maybe she’s screwing the company bean-counter. After all, washing the glasses by hand in the room is saving the hotel money.

Sir, I’m a poor, uneducated white man that has to compete against immigrants for low paying jobs yet, even I find your remarks to be ignorant, and hateful. In my opinion, our country would be far better to deport you and narrow minded jackasses like you, instead of the immigrants. I have been able to train most of the uneducated people that I’ve known. It is the hate mongers that I’ve never been able to redeem. Maybe that’s just because I’m poor and uneducated myself.

Sir take a moment and reread your statements, then do yourself a favor and erase them. This is the internet, your comments can potentially be here forever, available for people the world around to read. Surely, you don’t want to take the chance that one of your children or grandchildren will someday stumble upon them and realize such hatemongering could come from your pen.

You Gringos have no compassion. My Seester lost her job when the donkey died at the bar in Tijuana, and now she can only feed her 10 little pepitos by scrubbing toilets at the Holiday Inn! How would you like it if you had to scrub toilets all day?

  8. Red Roof Ricardo says:

Sanitation?! Ha!! We don’ need no steenking sanitation!

  9. Juan Cardona says:

Actually you would have to ask why the lazy gringos supervisors ain’t supervising if the job is being well done. Can’t they pick random rooms and do a thorough check of how was it cleaned? Can’t be too hard, is it? Maybe that’s why the bedbugs are coming back: combine peasants bringing them in with lazy gringos too fat to walk room by room checking the quality of the work the maids are doing.

  10. the Three-Headed Cat™ says:

Oh fuck off. One look at the wonderful, highly productive, technically advanced society in Mexico tells you what you need to know. Things there are the way they have been for a long, long time. Injustice, corruption, poverty, superstition, violence – all things endemic to Mexican culture, and not imposed upon it from without. Those things are part of the culture, and have been, and will continue to be, and not because of evil cultural imperialists and so-called ‘racists.’

The habits, the mindset, the values are all passed from generation to generation, with little change and little progress. This is because Mexican culture – like ALL backwards peasant cultures, is made up principally of people whose average level of intelligence is below that needed to recognize that their culture has serious problems and needs to change.

Peasants from Mexico, Serbia, India, China, Malaysia, Zimbabwe, Ecuador – they all have the same thing in common. They all believe, against all the evidence, that their culture is the best. This is called ‘ethnocentrism’. It is a barrier to progress. They do not accept change. They keep doing things ‘the way we’ve always done them’ because it must be the best way, since that’s the way it’s always been done. Such circular ‘reasoning’ is behind many dysfunctional traditions.

White, educated liberals of European extraction are the only significant ‘culture’ that does not tell it’s people that IT IS THE BEST. Ask a Mexican peasant, who has seen the significant differences in the standards of living in Mexico and the US, which culture is better and they will invariably, despite the glaringly obvious inferiority of it, say that Mexican culture is better. More poverty, more disease, more violence, universal corruption in institutions, injustice and unfairness everywhere you look – but none of that outweighs the simplistic, atavistic group identity and group pride which advanced, successful, progressive societies put aside in order to make real world improvements in the way people actually live.

Whether it’s Afghan peasants growing poppies that wind up financing al Qaeda or Mexicans who continue to accept politicians who are bought by those with money, it’s the same everywhere at all times.

Peasants are stupid. That’s why they stay peasants. That’s why, despite all the help, all the good intentions, they continue to live substandard lives. Reality says that a major portion of the human species will always be like this. We cannot ‘lift everyone out of poverty’ any more than ‘all the children of Lake Wobegon’ can possibly be ‘above average.’

The stupider you are, whether as individuals or as a group, the more likely that you are superstitious and religious. Notice that peasants everywhere fit that description.

It hasn’t got one goddamn thing to do with ‘racism’ or any other ‘-ism’ – people differ from each other and groups of people differ from other groups. Some groups do well, some do poorly. And those outcomes are and have always been directly correlated to the average intelligence of the members of those groups.

Mexicans in general work hard. And they do as they are instructed. But they also steal more from their employers, because theft is not universally rejected in Mexican culture as it is in ours. They will follow orders, but they also will not vary from those orders, even when it is evident that what they are doing is not accomplishing the necessary task – because of the peasant acceptance of authority. The ‘important’ people give the orders, and you follow the orders of your ‘betters’ no matter what. That’s what centuries of living in a rigidly enforced caste system does to a culture. Abstract concepts like ‘justice’ and ‘fairness’ take a back seat to the necessities of day-to-day survival. You follow the jefé ‘s orders, because if you don’t, you will be punished. For the same reason, you don’t change what you’re doing, even if you know it’s wrong, because individual initiative is punished, not rewarded. If the people you work for are successful, and have a lot of nice things, it’s OK to take some of them, since they have them and you don’t – and they won’t miss them. That works in Mexico, where the employer and the employee both accept this as a given. The employer knows the help will steal, and they allow for it – the employee knows that the employer knows, too – and that they simply mustn’t take too much. When these same people go to work for Americans, a cultural clash is set up; the Mexican worker does not understand why the American boss goes to such extremes to prevent them from taking anything. Instead of intelligently understanding that this is a cultural difference in customs, the Mexican resents being treated like a thief – the American has their prejudice confirmed that Mexicans are “less honest,” not grasping that their respective views of what constitutes “honesty” are different.

Ah, eff this crap. Trying to explain the real world to dogmatic, naive ideologues is a waste. Simple dogma: people are identical. If you say different, you are a bigot. No need to waste time thinking things out. Carry on with your childish, simplistic knee-jerk multiculti bullshit.

  13. the Three-Headed Cat™ says:

“Wow. What an incredibly racist comment. White people never do anything wrong, I guess.”

Ah, the classical Pavlovian conditioned response; mention a negative characteristic of a group, and just like a leg kick invoked by a patellar mallet, the reflexive, unthinking cry of “racist!” is heard throughout the land. Predictable as the sunrise. And every bit as much a product of conscious intelligent thought processes as that same sunrise.

“Muslims blow themselves up and otherwise commit suicide and take innocent lives with them.”

“Wow. What an incredibly racist comment. Non-Muslims never do anything wrong, I guess.”

Oh. Grand logic there. Virtually all suicide bombings are done by Muslims, and not by non-Muslims. But saying so is “racist” because some non-Muslim, somewhere, did some unspecified thing which, it is dishonestly and illogically implied, we are to assume is equally as bad as what Muslim suicide bombers do. Therefore blowing up innocent people is OK, because non-Muslims have done “things” that aren’t nice, right?

    “Hitler exterminated 6M Jews.”

“Wow. What an incredibly racist comment. Jews never did anything wrong, I guess.”

“Ted Bundy raped and murdered dozens of young women.”

“Wow. What an incredibly sexist comment. Young women never did anything wrong, I guess.”

Yeah, if any member of the other group has ever done anything at all wrong, then automatically and instantaneously, both groups are exactly equally at fault.

People who spout shit like that come from one of only two possible groups: the brainwashed or the utterly stupid.

  14. Brian says:

Just like a poor tradesman blames his tools for poor work. 😉

Don’t blame the workers for poor management, training and supervision as what else would you expect?

I would say this is more a comment on GOUSA tightening its collective belt trying to cut corners to save money. USA standards for hotels are falling when compared to even Shanghai and many other parts of China…GASP – SHOCK – HORROR!!!!

    #5 the Three-Headed Cat™ said

“You got it right, Hop. In their relatively ignorant peasant culture, even if they’ve heard of them, they don’t really believe that something you can’t see can hurt you. It isn’t laziness, they simply don’t see the need for it.

You are right, many peasant countries they are ignorant in basic hygine that we in some western countries take for granted. (It is common in Europe for food servers to handle food with bare hands – YUK!)

However you are absolutely wrong that that this is ONLY reason for the low standard of cleanliness as hhopper asserts.

Again – Management, training and supervision is 100% of the problem here – not cultural.

Example: China has some, if not the most foul lavatories I have ever come across. Don’t even consider a rest area on the highway for doing anything you can’t do holding your breath! Forget about #2 as well – kill me first!

Chinese people do not have the concept of washing hands after doing their business. It is unlikely to find soap in any lavatory or even means of drying your hands and perhaps worse – toilet paper, if your lucky there is some old newspaper scraps.

This is the culture as hhopper and 3HC have asserted is the only problem with low standards of hygiene in hotels.

However I have not seen any western foreigners cleaning lavatories in any of the better hotels and restaurants & bars here in Shanghai and they are clean and nice smelling. WTF? How is this possible? Management, training and supervision!

Another example: Indonesia also has a more peasant general population. However I have never ever been to a lavatory in Indonesia that was not clean, had soap, hand towels or air dryer. I believe it is because they traditionally eat with their hands.

Management, training and supervision! goes for any work / task that anyone does.

Just like a poor tradesman blames his tools for poor work. 😉

    # 20 edwinrogers said Not entirely sure that I like the suggestion that foreigners are dirty.

I travel a lot, globally. I have stayed in hotels in ‘western’ countries that were just as dirty as in so called “third world countries”.

My last trip to the US last year I stayed in around in Chicago, Madison, Denver, Twin Cities MN, Rapid City SD and most was by car.

We do not stay at the cheap hotels and half of hotels where we stayed were sub-standard to what we got in Brazil (Sao Paulo)where we just came from and in China! WTF? Paying $150+ a night and getting worn out crap. My comment to my wife then was GOUSA is going down the tubes…

  18. TIHZ_HO says:

#9 pedro – #9 and you think those people will do their job correctly after they get the training? aaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahaha. Good luck with that!

    Yes they DO!

    If you have:

    1/ Management
    2/ Training
    3/ Supervision

Think of each one of these items as the corner of a triangle. Each corner of the triangle reinforces each adjacent side and any one corner must be balanced against the other two. This is elementary basic shit for any business by the way.

If you only rely on one Training then yes you are correct Ahhhhh good luck!

That is why you need supervision to ensure the training and the standards set by management are maintained. Companies which are listing to one side and bleeding usually drop standards in the vain attempt to save money.

“Let go” a few managers and supervisors as they are admin as they “don’t do work” then start shaving off the number of workers who are actually do the job.

“…And that’s the way it is”

Yet some people seem to think this is a Hispanic cultural thing and that being dirty and uneducated is part of the Hispanic culture when the evidence and logic would dictate that perhaps there is a problem in the system that employs these women. If you want to be a bigot….BE A BIGOT!!!! But don’t pretend to be some scholar of anthropology and use cultural difference as an excuse to justify your racist statements. It is not part of the Hispanic culture to be dirty.

I see time after time white men of status and high education walking out of a public bathroom without washing their hands. How dare you say this type of behavior is limited to the poor or cultures that have a low economic status. YOUR ARGUMENT IS BULLSHIT AND YOU KNOW IT!!!!!

  21. the Three-Headed Cat™ says:

thx, pedro, for pointing out T_H’s problem @ #53.

Yes, T_H – we have those things too – and so does everyone else. But your insinuation is dishonest. We have them to a MUCH SMALLER DEGREE.

Corruption? We have cops and prosecutors here, a few of whom may try to minimize an offense by someone ‘connected’. In Mexico, drug cartels OWN entire police departments.

In Mexico, you run a red light, you’re stopped… and you slip the cop a bill and you’re on your way. We don’t do that here – and here’s the funny part; a few months ago, Houston PD (you know, that bunch of murderous redneck Klanners and such) ran a sting and busted a cop who was stopping speeders and letting them go for cash bribes. Here’s the shocker – the cop taking the bribes? MEXICAN. Not black, not white, not Asian. – and NOT A COINCIDENCE.

We’ve had no shortage of bent Attorneys General here in Happyland, but the by-far worst, most blatantly dishonest one ever – the one who does, just like his countrymen, exactly what his masters want, so he’ll be cut in on the take – is – wait for it… a MEXICAN.

It goes on and on… in each and every area I mentioned. Just as with an idiot I ridiculed back there at #45, just saying “Well, we have the same problems” or “We did bad things too” dishonestly implies that the sins of the two groups are equal, when there is actually a wide disparity between the two. Poverty, disease and squalor are far worse in Mexico than here – saying that they exist here is bullshit. They are not the norm here; but they ARE the norm over there.

And, exactly as with so many poor and starving peasants living in squalor all over the world, it’s not our fault. That’s more faux-egalitarian Marxist PC shit. ‘If they have less than we do, it can’t be because they do anything wrong, it’s all because of those horrible white people.’

    Puh-leeze.

In both places I assumed the previous occupants had been fucking like the animals we are and that the maids in charge of cleaning up the room were probably less than thorough. I guess everyone wants to feel like the room they’ve rented measures up to a high hygienic standard, but common sense should remind you to rinse the water glass in case it’s dirty.

  23. TIHZ_HO says:

#55 Pedro – that sounds nice and good, but sadly, in latin america, that’s only a theory that in very seldom cases becomes reality. Most of the times, stays as a borderline fictinal theory.

Both you and THC forgot one really important fact.

China WAS far worse than what ever Latin America could only hope to be. China was a ‘country in a bottle’ isolated from exposure to the west until only recently.

The difference, and the fact you overlooked, is it was USA and European investment along with its management styles into China on such a large scale never seen in Latin America which made all the difference in the world. (Not all investments were successful – more on that later)

It was the educated and great ‘west’ that taught the third world superstitious peasant Chinese how to do it…well.

    http://physorg.com/news120393257.html

If there has been the same level of investment into Latin America as there has been with China we would not be having this discussion.

Yes, I agree that Latin America is steeped with religion and superstitions more so than the GOUSA but is that any more than China 30+ years ago? LOL!!!

China wrote the book on superstitions and their ‘religion’ was Mao’s version of Communism and one more important fact, China was completely isolated from the west and its influence!

I first came to China in 1993 to establish and run a new factory. I learned the hard way that management, training and supervision is the only way to have success.

The fact that you are overlooking (or it is not evident to either of you) that good solid Management is vitally important tells me that you both are out of your depth.

Without proper good management everything else falls apart as management sets the quality standard and more important the company’s vision and mission. It cannot be any other way – period.

What both of you seemed to be engaged about is what we already know; Latin American management lacks quality standards, vision and mission, same as traditional Chinese management. So training and supervision and therefore quality fails. So what is so Earth shattering here?

Again, I think both you and THC are out of your depth on this one and the more you argue the more you are sinking deeper.

I own and have invested in Chinese manufacturing companies for years and we export high quality products globally and we do all this with a ‘peasant’ uneducated work force steeped in third world superstitious cultures and logic by solid management, training and supervision – and I would add, treating them as people.

I have seen more than my share of foreign companies fail miserably in China due to exactly your way of thinking. 😉

Labeling a race of people as lazy, ignorant, and dirty, is most certainly a racist remark. I’d be hard pressed to think of a statement that was more purely racist. It doesn’t take a member of the PC bandwagon, or a Marxist to see that it is racist.

Many in this forum seem to be mixing up culture with economy. It is true that the US has historically maintained a better economy than the rest of the countries in our hemisphere. How on earth do you measure the worth of a culture? Do you measure it by standard of living? If so, then Norway, Sweden, Canada, Belgium and Australia all have better cultures that the US. Maybe you want to measure it by academic scores, that would mean that Singapore has the best culture. Want to measure it by morals? The US has more criminals per capita than any other industrialized country. Maybe you would rather measure from the other end of the moral yardstick, and do your judging by which culture has the highest per capita of regular church goers. While I haven’t found a good source for these numbers, you can bet it’s not the US. I’d venture to guess that several middle eastern countries have larger per capita numbers of regular church goers. Just for argument, let’s say that the value of a culture is directly proportionate to the GDP of the country that the culture is located. That way we might be able to put the USA at the top of the heap, at least for today. Look at the numbers, it won’t be long before our GDP is eclipsed by China. Does that mean China will soon have the best culture? Before you go spouting off about which culture is best or worst, and site evidence, let us in on what evidence it is that you are sighting.

T_H – You see the difference as economic. But that is the aspect you are personally involved in.

Just the same as labeling Americans as Obese loudmouthed arrogant bible thumping couch potatoes.

You are correct in saying “how do you measure a worth of a culture” as there is no standard which could be applied universally. One only measures another culture against one’s own standards.

Just for argument, let’s say that the value of a culture is directly proportionate to the GDP of the country that the culture is located. That way we might be able to put the USA at the top of the heap, at least for today. Look at the numbers, it won’t be long before our GDP is eclipsed by China. Yes, that is happening sooner than later and there is no stopping it. (#58 link)

Chinese firmly believe that their culture and food is so far beyond what ever the ‘west’ has to offer. Many Chinese tourists would not even consider trying another culture’s cuisine as Chinese food is the best so why even bother?

Sadly people that extol the virtues of their culture whilst condemning others are too ignorant to realize they are no different than their counterpart who does the same. :/

Well swing enough times at the ball you have to hit one at least. You are correct but not in the way you think. Asians, particularly Chinese, are very firm that their culture is in no need of change at all and certainly not in any way any changes from the west – period.

Oh yeah, the comment made about serving gristle and fat, is a real food here. I’ve seen Chinese gobble it down joyfully. I saw the mayor’s daughter of eat mouthfuls of 2 inch thick chewy pig blubber. You blink but it doesn’t go away. You’ll be vegetarian fast.

BTW, comment about bribes… That was so dumb. So may white cops back in the states are slimier than the gristle in my Chinese ‘shi fan’
