I’ll put America first after I win. I promise.
Isn’t this what many others have been saying for the past week?
1) It reflects upon McCain in his decision making.
2) It reflects poorly on the country that such an unqualified candidate could have a shot at the Presidency.
3)It reflects poorly on Alaska that such a poorly educated woman can be elected Governor.
4)It reflects poorly on all the mighty nimrods who thought she was such a great candidate.
Palin obviously was a BONE TOSSED TO THE WHACKO NUT-JOB FUNDIE WING OF THE REPUKE PARTY, because McBush wasn’t “Pure” enough for the WHACKO NUT-JOB FUDNIES !!! But that’s what happens when your party is taken over by EXTREME RIGHT-WING WHACKO NUT-JOB FUNDIES !!!
What is it with this country that it regularly votes for the STUPIDEST person?
I have always found Zakaria to be a thoughtful well spoken commentator on internal and external politics. That fact that he has taken this stand is no small matter.
And though I agree with teh heart of what #3 says putting it that way does nothing but perpetrate the anger and polarization that has helped to get our once great democracy into the hideous mess.
Political conservatives must divorce themsaelves from the religious extreme right if they are even to see true conservative issues discussed in rational terms. As long as Christian radicals and Conservatives share the Republican party we are doomed to people like SP being in the national political limelight, when they deserve to be running for dog catcher somewhere.
Every time I’ve seen her speak, she looks like she’s trotting out pre-canned responses with no latitude for her own thought. Even to the point of ignoring the question she’s just been asked. On top of that, her voice has got a bit of a hint of a vibration in it, like she’s highly stressed.
My sympathies to your country…:(
It is probable that Palin has some high tech ultra-miniature TelePrompter that projects on the inside of her “Sarah Specs”, so she can read off the canned responses she gives !!! Remember that Dumbya had the RADIO-CONTROLLED BOX ON HIS BACK during one of the debates !!! Repukes will pay for the latest high tech gadgets, if only TO MAKE LYING EASIER !!!
How McCain picked her shows W like judgement on his part.
The idea that she should drop out or McCain should boot her is crazy. The MINUTE that happens the media will be going on and on that they have even less time to vet the next candidate. It is not the media’s job to choose the candidates. If she is as bad as he thinks then i think its safe to assume that democracy will work and Obama will win. Why is it such a bad thing to allow the system to function and not try to alter it?
#2, #3 and #5 – spot on! The polarization of American politics seems to have resulted in the Republicans picking the candidate who most annoys the Democrats… and their supporters lap it up!
It is seriously baffling how so many people can even consider voting for Ms Palin. This isn’t a video game, this is going to determine the state of the world in 4 years time!
In my view, choosing Ms Palin makes McCain unelectable – his decision making is seriously flawed and if he can make such an impetuous decision here, imagine what he’ll do when someone brings up Iran!
God help all of us.
By the way, the amazing hypocrisy of the Religious “Right” supporting a party who’s policies so clearly contradict most Biblical values constantly amazes me!
Seems to me that 90-percent of these complaints can be leveled at Obama too. What gives? How does such an obvious neophyte rise so quickly to power unless there are puppet masters we have to contend with. That said, McCain should have chosen Nader as the VP. Or Hillary! Why not?
The difference… let’s see here.
Beauty Queen versus Harvard Law without Mommy and Daddy buying him into college.
Yeah I think just about defines the difference to me.
Sort of like comparing the Maytag repairman to Bill Gates.
THe only advantage Obama has is 19 months of full time campaigning, as a result he knows how to give canned responses that sound good to his constituents, but lack in depth and intellectual honesty.
Palin is giving honest responses in many cases for the first time. What do you expect?
Why someone thinks Obama has any more understanding of how to govern is beyond me. His only claim to fame is sitting and debating, and most of the time voting present. What a joke…How did the second string in both parties get to run for president.
John for the first time, I agree with you, it sure looks like the chicago political machine choose a candidate with no obvious warts (and no experience) to run. He’s more teflon than slick willy, and that’s not a compliment.
Zakaria’s analyses always lean somewhere far to the left of Ted Kennedy. I’m not sure where he’s from but from the way he knocks the US, one wonders why he doesn’t go elsewhere.
I dunno. She may have been picked as an insurance policy for McCain. Just like Bush Sr. picked the idiot Quayle as VP. I always felt is was Bush Sr’s way of saying “Don’t kill me or you get stuck with this bonehead”.
#9 – If she is as bad as he thinks then i think its safe to assume that democracy will work and Obama will win.
It failed in 2000 and 2004 when the Republican party rigged Florida and Ohio respectively and Bush was handed the presidency in what will one day be seen as the single greatest heist in history.
This just is just another damn liberal! The liberal media just keeps trying to twist things. Sarah Palin is certainly qualified to be President.
Biden obviously was a BONE TOSSED TO THE WHACKO NUT-JOB LEFT WING OF THE DEMCRAP PARTY, because Obama wasn’t “Pure” enough for the WHACKO NUT-JOB LEFTIES!!! But that’s what happens when your party is taken over by EXTREME LEFT-WING WHACKO NUT-JOB LIBERALS!!!
What I find very amusing is the only voices who want Gov Palin gone are liberals. She must be effective if the donks want her out of the picture.
Angry liberals trying to make this out to be Alaska’s fault? Does this mean the state can succeed and take it’s oil with it?
If it does, I’ll gladly move. There’s a reason it’s called the “lower” 48, and you guys are living proof.
Silly liberals, you actually think you matter. How cute!
#14. That is stupid…but it sure is funny!!!!
#16. Sorry, but that is just stupid.
For the last few weeks they (Democrats) have been saying Palin is an idiot and she’s not qualified to be VP, etc.
But just recently, they’ve started saying they expect her to be a “challenge” for Biden in the VP debate.
So, if she does well in the debate (or Biden screws up), they can claim it was expected. But if she flubs it, they can claim they’ve been saying she’s an idiot all along.
Wolf said Palin was very popular in Alaska. I hold a 50% popularity rating (sometimes higher) in my house BUT I am not qualified to be president of the US. And I am more qualified than Palin.
Imagine this 2008 race was the NFL. Can you picture the 49ers announcing that their second string quarterback was some unknown kid who had only played two games as tackle or guard on the high school junior varsity team? Sports fans would be up in arms. Sports radio voices would be calling for the firing of the entire 49er front office.
If this was boxing then there would be allegations of throwing the match.
Thankfully this is only politics and the future of our country at stake, and not an NFL franchise or boxing match.
I’m a left-wing liberal Democrat (nut job wacko if you will) but I don’t NOT WANT (double negative for effect a la Paul Harvey)Sara Palin for VP for me and the democratic party. I don’t want her because I think the nation and the GOP deserve better.
If the GOP doesn’t want better choices than these, then I figure that they have decided to make McCain and Palin sacrificial lambs. This would be a great way to get this extremely screwed-up mess that Bush is leaving us with out of their hands.
#11 and #13
Apparently, you did not get the point of the OP. There is a HUGE difference between Palin and Obama. Obama knows what he is talking about, Palin does not.
Obama taught constitutional law at Harvard. He wouldn’t be able to do that if he didn’t damm well know his stuff. He has written two books without a ghost writer to back him up. He is not repeating talking points, he is often inventing his own talking points. He intellectually understands not only the liberal view of the world but also the conservative one.
Palin parrots the conservative talking points without understanding their full context. She went to 6 different colleges, the most prestigious being the University of Idaho.
I know her type. She was from birth raised to believe certain things without understanding why she believed them. She has probably never had the intellectual curiosity to question her own beliefs, and as a result she seems incapable of intellectually defending them.
Obama questions his beliefs all the time, and has successfully defended his beliefs through 22 debates so far(?), not only intellectually, but without saying anything politically damaging either.
What Obama lacks in experience, he makes up for in intellect. Lincoln, Kennedy and Reagan also got to be President with little proven experience, but with strong understanding of the issues at hand, and by most people’s reckoning, they did pretty good.
Obama is certainly intellectual, but he is not a leader. He’s like Carter, who overly micro-managed and over-thought everything to the point of paralysis. Look at Obama now; he is not engaging the action in congress, just standing on the sidelines wondering what to do and how to make it sound just right. Frozen. Not a leader. Sounds great, looks ok, but indecisive about anything ‘above his pay grade’. You may like him, you may admire his ideals, but if you’ve ever been around people with real leadership qualities who get things done, he’s clearly not one of them.
@25 – Hannah;
>>Frozen. Not a leader.
Do you imagine that if you keep repeating that silly mantra over and over and over again, that someone is going to believe you? Or worse, do you imagine it will become true?
>>if you’ve ever been around people with real
>>leadership qualities who get things done,
>>he’s clearly not one of them.
And McBush is? Haw! HAW! He may be a lot of things, but leadership material sure isn’t one of them.
@12 hawkeye666
Only a leftie steeped in the natural juices of big-government liberalism would equate a Harvard Law with preparing someone to become president.
#26
Do you imagine … that if you frantically reply to every post, you will become right 5% of the time?
You didn’t respond to my comment at all, as usual. Just the same re-fried, spastic dogma.
#25, HanahMontana
(Obama’s) like Carter, who overly micro-managed and over-thought everything to the point of paralysis. Look at Obama now; he is not engaging the action in congress, just standing on the sidelines wondering what to do and how to make it sound just right.
So pray tell how is standing on the sidelines allowing those with the responsibility to come up with proper legislation “micro-managing”? None of Obama’s Senate committees dealt with banking or commerce. Quite correctly, he didn’t interfere with their work. McCain, on the other hand, did interject himself into the conferences and did stall the process.
How you can suggest that Carter overly micro-managed is beyond me. This probably makes a great sound bite, even if untrue. Another typical Republican tact.
#24 “Obama taught constitutional law at Harvard. He wouldn’t be able to do that if he didn’t damm well know his stuff.”
Except he doesn’t think the 2nd amend allows you to own firearms.
He should ask for a refund of his Harvard tuition…
