The family from Blackburn claim £22,508 a year in benefits, equivalent to the take-home pay from a £30,000 salary. The Chawners, haven’t worked in 11 years, claim their weight is a hereditary condition and the money they receive is insufficient to live on.
Mr Chawner said: “What we get barely covers the bills and puts food on the table. It’s not our fault we can’t work. We deserve more.”
The family claim to spend £50 a week on food and consume 3,000 calories each a day. The recommended maximum intake is 2,000 for women and 2,500 for men.
“We have cereal for breakfast, bacon butties for lunch and microwave pies with mashed potato or chips for dinner,” Mrs Chawner told Closer magazine. “All that healthy food, like fruit and veg, is too expensive. We’re fat because it’s in our genes. Our whole family is overweight,” she added.

A bacon buttie, as I recall from my time in Scotland, is a buttered roll with several slices of bacon on it. In Glasgow, that’s health food!
Too fat to work? More like to lazy to work. What a bunch of lazy slobs. You would think with all the free time they had from not working, they could find the time to work out.
A bacon buttie is just a bacon sandwich, either in a roll, or between two slices of bread.

The outrage is not that these people claim to be too fat to work, for the human race has no dearth of fat, lazy, and sorry people. It is that there seems to be a governmental program that actually accepts this bullshit excuse and compensates them for it.
The fact that they’re getting anything at all is ridiculous. This is why we need to stay away from socialized medicine in the states. Get off the couch and out of your house. Even if the weight was hereditary, doesn’t mean you just have to let it happen. Work out some! Get a job, deadbeats.

As for their inability to work, I personally know a woman, just about their size if not bigger. Working two jobs and raising/showing show dogs, Malamutes. Racing dogs and writing great books “on a side”. That is what happens when Govt. is not taking care of you.
When I first heard about this earlier today I thought it was just some right wing fear mongering ( like some of the posters about are trying to make it). I was sure that it would turn out that they all had really nasty conditions ( and they do have some) and that at least one of them would be wheelchair bound/ unable to leave the house.
I didn’t see the picture of them to just now. I am over weight myself and I go to school and work a couple of jobs and I can’t find clothes that fit me that well. I know that sounds weird but I use that as a measuring stick. The better your clothes fit the least likely that your weight is such a problem that it would keep you from working.
The father doesn’t even seem to be that bad off.
Since these parents seem to be experts on obesity, and somehow have insider knowledge that it’s all just hereditary, they should have realized 2 people with the same genetic disorder should NEVER have children.
What’s that? Not a genetic disorder you say? They claim it is. If it’s hereditary and causes an illness (obesity), it’s a genetic disorder. You say they had no way of knowing before having kids? If this whole “our obesity is genetic” thing is true, they should have probably been showing symptoms even in childhood.
Given their ages (parents: 53, 57; kids: 19, 21) and the assumption that this hypothetical genetic problem manifests itself at about the same time in each individual, it appears that the parents should have already been hugely fat BEFORE conceiving. And since they know so much about obesity being genetic they should have thought “Think our kids will be fat?” Therefore, they were either selfish and should have known they’d pass on this “disease”. Or we could trust Occam’s Razor and conclude that THEY’RE JUST FAT AND LAZY.

After reading the article, I think their disability claims are legit. If you’re all for gov’t sponsored disability payments, you’d have to be ok with what these people are doing.
Ironically, the most anti-fat people I know tend to be liberals.
While the banks in the U.K. are losing billions of pounds every quarter, this family can’t even lose a few hundred. We need to send Richard Simmons over there to annoy them until they lose the weight.
As an obese adult these people offend me to no end. They’re abusing a system that was ment for someone who was really unable to work.

When you have a society where companies employ psychologists to come up with ways to brainwash people into consuming more, the resultant fatties are inevitable. These people have been bred and groomed to consume more than is good for them, all for profit, and IMHO are not entirely to blame for thier weight problems.
