Wow, what an idiot. Tobacco smokers may die younger and save money for Social security, but the health care costs dwarf those savings.
There are always some idiots incapable of working, but being a pot head has nothing to do with it. I quit smoking pot (daily habit) about 2 years ago, but I never failed to work and work effectively once in all that time. I worked as a maintenance and construction electrician, physical and mental occupation. I’ve never worked with anyone whose marijuana habit affected their ability to do their job in any way….and I’ve met many. Alcoholics on the other hand frequently do not show up, or are late or hung over.
If anything tobacco smokers were far less effective workers, since they usually stopped working for about 5-10 minutes every hour to go outside and smoke.

I’ve seen differently.
I had a brother-in-law who was a stereotypical loser until he gave up pot.
Seriously — his whole life changed for the better without pot. He finished his education, finally kept a job and the only obvious change was giving up the pot.
Clearly, there are plenty of people who smoke and live functional lives.
But, in my observation, one can’t make the blanket statement you did.
I suspect something else happened in his life that inspired him to become a different person. I highly doubt that cannabis was the cause of his problems, but just an attempt to self medicate his problems away. Perhaps you are correct, perhaps not; it is impossible to tell. Correlation is not necessarily causation.
To think that way would classify you as an idiot. If you drink a lot of wine you can put on a lot of weight. Stop the wine and the weight starts to come off.
I wouldn’t presume to tell someone that no, stopping your drinking didn’t have anything to do with you losing weight you must have found Dog.
So I am an idiot because I don’t immediately jump to the most obvious conclusion without being willing to investigate other possibilities??……in this one isolated case…ok, whatever you say.
An assessment from 40 years of attending my high school class reunion every 5 years is that there is a 80% correlation between bright people who were pot heads and never amounted to anything. 20% is the exception. Routine pot smoking sucks away your initiative somehow.

Ehmm, last time I’ve checked, effectiveness is based on results, not on the amount of hours you put in.
I’d take a guy who stare at the window all day and produce an idea who turn the company around vs a guy that runs around like crazy and complaining he’s very busy.
While I agree with most of what you say here and later, I’d question the bit about the health care costs on smokers. They might have higher health care costs per year, but they are around for far fewer years.
Of course, we all die of something, and most people consume something like 75% of their lifetime health costs in their final year of life. Smoker or not. I think if you add up the savings from not having them around in years 75-90, plus all the tobacco taxes they pay, plus the social security savings, you might find that they are an economic benefit.
As a former smoker, though, I’d pay a few bucks just not to have to smell it.

But when a pothead looks at it they think it looks like a perfect example of wiring out the National Electric Code.
Push the maretted wire in and put a cover on that lower metal box, and it is up to code, pothead or not. Everything outside that box is only 24 volt wiring. It could be neatened up a bit with tie wraps, but by code there is no problem in that picture. 24 volt wiring is completely safe and legal to be wired in free air and is commonly done that way.
At least they used a junction box.
The only “expert” opinion Ann Coulter can give on marijuana is whether or not the passage of the various legalization referenda in the various states becomes a campaign issue for the political races in November 2014.
Or how much money various “non-profit” 501 (4)c groups can raise with bogus arguments. I’ve come to the conclusion that many of these groups exist so they can buy media spots produced by their “for-profit” production companies.

There must be thousands of people more qualified to speak on the issue of marijuana than she.
I dislike pot and I am generally against legalizing drug abuse.
But I think one can make a singular case for legalizing marijuana.
I think we hit a tipping point, quite some time ago, where the cost of keeping marijuana illegal became higher than the cost of legalizing it.
(And, please don’t bother arguing that there will be no societal costs for having pot legal. You have to be high to believe that drug abuse has no costs.)
But, I do think we are making the same mistake with the marijuana industry that we did with the tobacco industry. Let’s make them pay for the health costs now, rather than having the victims sue them later.
What health costs are you referring to?? There is no evidence of any damage being caused by smoking marijuana. The only thing I can possibly think of is obesity from the munchies, but even that is unlikely. I don’t know too many obese pot smokers. In fact a study was recently released showing that marijuana use reduces obesity.
And I’m sorry, but I will argue with that societal ills point. Everywhere that pot use has been legalized or decriminalized, actual use has gone DOWN. Assuming people smoking pot even causes these so-called societal ills. I’d argue caffeine use from coffee addicts is just as or more harmful.
Absolutely the same health costs as related to tobacco smoke. Cancer-creating compounds are in the smoke itself, be it one or another plant burning. Tobacco products at least have filters by now.
Nicotine -> addictive part and heart disease causing part in tobacco.
Smoke/soot inhaled from plant burning -> lung, throat, mouth,… cancer. The main and costly illness.
Hence, if marijuana gets legal – only industrially produced and packaged items satisfying same tobacco standards [filters, content,…] , with health warning label and same pictures as on tobacco products. Same taxation. Same age restriction. Same enforcement.
To put this in perspective, most cigarrete addicts smoke 1 -2 PACKS a day.
Marijuana is NOT physically addictive, and a normal person doesn’t smoke more than 1/2 to 1 joint a day.
Of course there are exceptions to every rule, and stupid people are everywhere, but that’s their choice, and the government needs to stay out of it.
I have yet to see any study that shows the smoke from cannabis causes cancer, in fact I have only seen studies that seem to indicate the opposite….that it actually reduces cancer risk from smoking tobacco in conjunction. When I smoked tobacco only my lungs would feel heavy all the time from the crap that would build up in my lungs. When I added cannabis to the mix, i would cough more of that crap up and feel able to breathe easier.
I constantly hear the “any smoke=tar=carcinogen”, but it is always just someone’s feelings on how things must be, or as Steven Colbert calls this phenomenon – Truthiness

Cannabis is not tobacco. Several compounds in cannabis have shown chemo-preventive effects, meaning cannabis fights cancer. These compounds actually cause cancerous cells to self-terminate. This is largely the reason why NO STUDY HAS EVER FOUND EVEN A CORRELATION BETWEEN CANNABIS USE AND INCREASED RATES OF CANCER, LET ALONE A CAUSAL EFFECT. Yes, the act of smoking anything can potentially reduce lung function and immune function, but smoking is not the only means to ingest cannabis. Although any repeatable action can form a habit, cannabis is not physically addicting, so no warnings about addiction nor graphic displays of cancerous lungs should be necessary. Filters are probably still a good idea for cannabis cigarettes. I think the more pragmatic approach would be to clearly label cannabinoid content in a manner similar to alcohol content labels, so consumers can determine the approximate effects they will feel when they smoke or eat the product. Because cannabis has an intoxicating effect, it would also be wise to adopt legislation similar to alcohol with respect to age restrictions and impaired driving.
Legalize marijuana. It is neither my nor the government’s business if someone wants to destroy their life doing drugs. The only issue I have about potheads is their inability to get many jobs where drug-testing is a requirement for getting hired.
The real reason I want to legalize marijuana is so that cops can’t go, sniff, sniff, “I smell marijuana in this vehicle. Even if I don’t find any marijuana I am now justified in inconveniencing you by searching your vehicle.” Since there is a marijuana exception to the Fourth Amendment, I say legalizing marijuana will eliminate that loophole.

3. Iv seen POT change over the years..and MOSt of it ISNT the OLD POT.
4. In the USA, at this time..there are enough jobs for around 25-30% of the people.. until you can get to 40%..its going to be HARD TIMES.
5. WHICH will add tot he economy MORE.. USA selling pot to smokers, or Underground POT that you will never see ANY taxes from, and prices 2-10 times..
6. where do you think money from underground POT goes??
7. getting POT away from MAJOR drug dealers, means that POT smokers are not around the harder drugs, and PROBABLY WONT sample it..

I used to like Ann more as a shit stirrer until on video she said that not only was Darwin wrong but that there was not a shred of evidence to support evolution. She babbled on to something else and was not challenged on that assertion, but obviously any sane debate was off the table.
THE ISSUE is not whether pot is good or bad for whomever but rather….who decides. Its a FREEEEEEDOM issue. COYOTE! … and not to be left out but whatever the net/net bad effects of pot/drugs are, the balancing factor is how much WORSE the costs are to keep them illegal. Prohibitionism has historically failed, we all know what happen in the 1020s during the prohibition years.
People who don’t care won’t use it, people who want it know where to find it, whether it’s legal or not.
Education is the key, demonizing it won’t do squat.
Besides, legalizing it is the best way to fight the illegal drug trade and keep those money in the United States. Put those Mexicans and Afghanistans’ out of business.
But we also know, even more specifically, what happens in countries that legalize pot. What is happening right now in Denmark, Netherlands, Switzerland,… Only (partial) exception is Portugal where so far nothing much have changed, but notice that they are the newest member of that club.
Government and public opinion in those countries have turned against pot. Because, similarly as in pre- Giuliani NYC, low quality of life and crime are inextricably connected. Similarly as fighting seemingly “just quality of life crimes” (homeless, begging, windshield washers,…) impacted both quality of life in NYC AND real, hard crime (robberies, rape, murder,…) rates, pot-enablers realized that very similar but opposite effect have happened in their communities due to pot usage. Hence recent reversals there. We must learn from that part too.
Situation can be optimized – no public place usage (same as alcohol) and only sale of industrially produced and taxed stuff (just like tobacco). Smoke at your own home to your heart content.

Ann’s bad view of marijuana stems from an incident in her college years. She was out riding around with friends who were toking and she decided she might as well try it. She asked the girl in the back seat to “hand me the cannabis” and was misunderstood. Ann realized her error when she was handed and accidentally drank from a can of piss.
