I went off yesterday to watch football, so my response is likely way too late but I’ll post it anyway.
The honest answer is, I can’t really tell from the video. Quite honestly, every time the media person say she’s being tased, it doesn’t appear she’s actually being tased.
Her physical reaction seems to be wrong. In fact, it appears she’s being your standard, every day, falling down drunk – no different from hundreds and thousands of other falling down drunks.
Having the coordination to lay on her back and kick out the windows of the Scout Car is NOT consistent with being tased on multiple occasions, just prior to being placed in the back seat.
I can’t say for sure because I wasn’t physically there to see everything but I can tell you one thing: if I’d had to use force on her to get her on her stomach and cuff her hands behind her back, I might easily have accidentally broken her wrist or arm, scraped her face on the asphalt or otherwise have seriously injured her.
Cop or not, when you’re being hurt you tend to react with a LOT of force due to adrenaline and what the hell, no-one is getting paid to go home damaged or dead, no matter what the general public thinks. Ask my ex-wife.

NO ONE wants to be tasered==but few seriously consider the actual harm and the available alternatives.
Funny thing–I’m never violent. Antisocial when sober, very compliant and happy when drunk. Atleast, thats the way I remember it!

oh by the way …you noticed that on t.v. show cops they use those things for one second and the vict goes down….why the cameras are rolling….when those cams aren’t around i bet those same caring cops do the same thing all the rest of the cops do….taser till they can’t hold back the laughter….

As far as in the car, that is fine if she was kicking the windows, then cord cuff her for kicking the windows.
This entire episode is very unfortunate for all involved. Guys the reality is we are not seeing the entire puzzle by watching what the media is showing. We all know that the media shows and tells enough to present matters in a way they want you to perceive them to be. Not enough pieces of the puzzle there for me to make an opinion regarding this particular situation. I will say this, all police officers and civil officers deal with more pathetic situations than we can even imagine. Be glad you have them. Also are we all so naive that we think all policmen a good honest people. Please. Not saying the offices involved is or isn’t. Back to the media, has anyone announced what this ladies ETOH level was? Why was she kicked out in the first place? These and more questions do matter. Has any of the media talked about these things.

To the person by the name of Owen whoever wrote quote number 6: You are full of shit sp much your turds outweigh your stomach. Its people like yourself that need to stay away from the voting booths during November. You claim that most cops go on power trips? We do not go on power trips, we are just fed up woth uneducated idiots like yourself and anyone else who bashes the police like you do. Why dont you tell that to the officer when they pull you over for speeding and you get your ticket because you ran your mouth. Sounds like your the type who needs to be muzzled.

I guess that accounts for about 70 percent of the bloggers on this forum who dont know a dick about law enforcement. If they think it is so easy, then get off your fuckin ass and go to law enforcement training. (if you are tough enough to survive such physical requirements)

Hey Jim, the stupidass that commented after me. I never said a fucking thing about the video you piece of shit! My comment was in regard to the bloggers calling us officers ( or former officer in my case ) the names they are. Do you not know how to read or comprehend whats written? If not here is a website for you I recommend it very much so to help you in your troubles!

I have nothing against cops, they are human like the rest of us and can flip out just like the average Post-office mailman or Wal-Mart cashier. But considering that they should protect us– and they are given deadly weapons and power– I think they should be held to a higher standard then ‘everyone else’.
When I see this I am sickened– watch the tazor in his hand- it fires constantly, not even 30 seconds between shocks and it takes 1 min to recover from a high volt shock. Watch her as she’s falling to the ground, he kicks her (or just pushes her down with his foot which ever way you want to think about it), she’s not doing anything but holding her hands above her head– he shocks her again and she trips and hits her head against the car (concussion anyone?). Then seconds later not even 30 seconds she falls and he shocks her AGAIN. Each of those shocks are enough to mess with her heart.
For those of you who say you were shocked once and it wasn’t that bad consider:
According to medical experts, if you are female, under 120 lbs, with exposed skin the pain of the shock is more than if you are 160 lb+ male in uniform. Any drugs or alcohol could also affect what a person feels in the shock. Also consider she was being shocked for long periods of time– not just once. She was stumbling on the ground with her HANDS UP (or out as much as she could hold them up under pain). Why shock her 3 times within 1-2 minutes? Maybe she doesn’t stop instantly because he shocked her before off camera and her compliancy didn’t help any. It didn’t look like her compliance helped when she was outside the car when it looks like he thinks she is outside the camera’s range– he shocks her again for NO REASON! She passes out unconscious and has to go to the hospital after that last shock.
Also, consider that if you are a woman there are sick bastards out there who dress up like police officers and torture/rape/ and murder women. The fact that this cop didn’t have a cage in his car would have scared the shit out of me– it looked like a civilian car. Almost anyone can dress up as a cop and buy an old cop car from an auction. The car I am driving used to be a police car-pool car. $1500 cash, pretty nice car too less then 10 years old, anyways… combine that with the fact that he zapped her multiple times when she was trying to comply… she was fearing for her life.
She is pleading not guilty– but even if she was guilty, what ever happened to the saying ‘Innocent until proven guilty?’ Do you zap someone who is considered innocent 7+ times? Did she try to hurt the cop? Its hard to tell from the video. He doesn’t look like he has a scratch on him. If he can show us a couple bruises maybe I would feel sympathy for him, but since the woman showed no violence to the cop (just to the window) she was not trying to hurt the cop just trying to escape the torture (and possible abduction if you agree with my point that there are cop impersonators out there). Since there was no cage in the car it would have been easy for her to try to hurt the cop but in no stage of the video did she lift a finger against him. HMMMM. Curious. Yet he almost kills her with shocks and sends her to the hospital.
Tasers and stun guns are wonderful tools, if used properly. In this arrest, clearly you have a woman that is very intoxicated. She is obviously a danger to herself and the general public. Clearly there were better ways. The officer should have handled the situation, but we have to remember until we are put in those shoes that the officer were wearing that night. We truly don’t know, what was happening, other than the video evidence. As for the officer saying, his taster malfunction three times I find that very hard to believe giving the testing each taser must go through. I can say this with confidence being that I’m a taster dealer and deal with the product on a day-to-day basis.
