This was a really close call.

  1. OhForTheLoveOf says:

From the point of view that American soldiers or Iraqi citizens could have been injured, that really sucked…

But just from the male gene than makes us love stuff going boom… That was freakin’ awesome 🙂

  2. RTaylor says:

I’ve filled trauma bags with pieces. Maybe it’s just age, but I find nothing amusing about this.

  3. steelcobra says:

Damn, they actually put that under the road. Luckily, instead of shrapneling, the asphalt the covered it with appeared to dampen the explosion.

  4. Rakarich says:

As someone who doesn’t understand the lingo… what does IED stand for?

Thankfully, no one was injured in this scenario.

  5. Improbus says:

    Improvised Explosive Device

  6. Don says:

It looks like the device was a little too deep to be really effective. They probably had it stuffed into a drainage culvert. If that device had been on the roadside instead of under the road, we would not be able to view that video.

Our troops have to deal with that stuff every day over there. My hats off to everyone serving our country.

Of course, that’s why I was in the Airforce.

    Don

  7. Gregory says:

    Wow, that’s an awesome video.

“I find nothing amusing about this.”

It’s not supposed to be funny, who’d find it funny? It’s supposed to be impressive, sobering, inspiring, but not funny.

  8. ChrisMac says:

in full screen mode you can see it come up on the left
looks a bit like a raised manhole cover

  9. Mike Voice says:

#6 Of course, that’s why I was in the Airforce.

And why I joined the Navy.

  10. OmarTheAlien says:

They missed the big one; I know the feeling. Charly blew out the cargo hatch of our beached LST, then touched off the ammo dump across the very small harbor in Dong Tam. We didn’t take any pictures. Different wars, same stupid shit.

  11. ChrisMac says:

maybe they planted the IED upside down by mistake..

    equally as likely.. staged propaganda

  12. Joshua says:

And people bitch about the North/South commute in L.A.

  13. tallwookie says:

    BOOM!!!

now we need a video about those cool sounding bombs I heard about on npr – the ones Iran makes… called FSP’s or something – a 8lb mass of copper travellng @ over 2000 meters/second. UBER_BOOM!!!
