A 14-year-old was arrested after reportedly planning a Columbine’-type event at a high school in Pennsylvania.

Police received a tip call saying the home-schooled teen was plotting an attack on Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School. After receiving permission from the teen’s parents, police conducted a search of the teen’s home and recovered a cache of weapons.

Click through to the report and check out the video of what this kid had stashed.

“I do not think an attack was imminent and I am not certain that an attack was going to occur at all,” District Attorney Bruce L. Castor Jr. said. “It could have simply been big talking by a kid who thought that he was bullied previously and he was going to exact his revenge.”

I’ll bet there are a lot of folks happy that someone checked – before something happened.

  1. Improbus says:

Big deal … we had a “cache” (rifles, shot guns and pistols) of weapons at home when I was going to school. Of course, when I was in school we just beat people bloody instead of shooting them.

  2. mark says:

Except for the 9mm, the rest were pellet rifles and BB guns, according to the report. Still, that kid was a disaster with a lit fuse on it. The cops did the right thing YAY!

  3. MikeN says:

And there was some sort of shooting in Ohio too. Is there some sort of special day on the calendar?

  4. Lauren the Ghoti says:

Hmmmmm. I suppose it’s not relevant to mention how anti-government right-wing paranoid whackolas who imagine they know everything a child should learn are somewhat overrepresented among home-school advocates – and of course how the male offspring of such types might possibly exhibit some degree of predisposion toward violent expression of their out-of-the-mainstream views…

  5. KJ says:

I liked how the Anarchists Cookbook was prominently displayed. I read that book in high school myself. Never once was stupid enough to work through some of the recipes, but it did spur my interest in physics and chemistry. The horror!!

As did #2 I also caught the skimmed over detail about the 9mm being the only real gun. Typical that the facts are buried to make it look much worse than it really is.

  6. AdmFubar says:

Yesterday (Wednesday, and Tuesday) seemed to be disaster days in the cleveland area, two tanker truck spills , a major train derailment, near painesvile, and a 14 yo in cleveland shot 4 people and killed himself. Hopefully winter will set in soon. too much hot weather up here isnt good…
    🙁

  7. moss says:

2&5 and you had hand grenades in high school, too.

  8. moss says:

+ that copy of Hitler’s Second Book was a present from his bible teacher?

  9. The Monster's Lawyer says:

This is just the beginning for this young man. He is well on his way to being the next “Oklahoma Bomber”. He doesn’t have the usual issue of being trapped in a situation where he couldn’t walk away from the bullies. He isn’t required to associated with the kids at that school but feels compelled to confront them? If his antagonists were seeking him out then maybe they should be looked at too.

  10. OhForTheLoveOf says:

#4 – Shout it from the rafters… I don’t think anyone should ever miss a chance to take a swipe at homeschooling.

#8 – Nothing about that is surprising to me.

  11. Tucson Geek says:

All except one of them were AIR GUNS. Let’s not get too rabid about the boy and his BB gun collection. This is typical media hype. They flash a video of a bunch of scary looking weapons. Unfortunately, the “weapons” in the picture are closer to toys than real guns.

The cops also said NO ATTACK WAS IMMINENT. So why is the media reporting that one was averted? It’s hard to avert something that isn’t going to happen.

The kid made a veiled threat. So what? It happens every day in America. Since when did we start living inside of Minority Report. We’re going to lock people up for thinking about committing a crime. If so, they’ need to lock up nearly everyone on the freeway during rush hour.

  12. Phillep says:

One real firearm and a bunch of pellet and BB guns. Oh, the horror.

I’d like to know more about the 9mm. especially considering how the first news photo of an “assault weapon arsenal” I ever saw consisted of one semiauto, a single shot shotgun, a pump action .22, and a bolt action rifle.

Grenade? That could be serious. So could the swords and knives, considering how many people get chopped (but they don’t go “boom” so the MSM ignore them).

Well, the first articles are alway wrong. Remember the Duke U “rape”?

  13. OhForTheLoveOf says:

Used to be that it had to bleed to lead… And to think I used to complain about that. Now I’m nostalgic for it.

  14. Angel H. Wong says:

This would not have happened if the teachers, the janitor, the principal, the secretaries, the counselor and the nurse at the school carried guns.

Of course, that would have been the excuse by the NRA.

  15. Lauren the Ghoti says:

    ‘Just one 9mm’

In case it escaped anyone’s notice, a kid can make it into the history books with nothing more than that, and more than one has done so.

It would also be nice to be spared for once the naïve and bogus implication that a kid who collects a whollllle big buncha weapons – whether they’re real or not – and talks about committing extreme violence on others must, for some vague, unexamined reason be presumed no more likely than anyone else to actually act out those pathological thoughts.

I mean, gimme a fuckin’ break, OK? Maybe you fell off the turnip truck last night, but I didn’t…

  16. Lauren the Ghoti says:

If by that, you mean to imply that an adolescent obsessed with guns and violence, in early 21st-century America, is no more likely than average to actually wind up murdering people or attempting to do so, then I have some prime real estate in Florida I’d like you to take a look at…

If that is NOT what you meant, then I must confess to having no idea what you might mean.. Bush? Cheney? Minkey? WTF?

  17. Li says:

The media is committing the correlation/causation fallacy, and to make it worse there isn’t really even a correlation. In particular, if the proportion of automatic weapons to population was a predictor of murder, the 50’s would have been the deadliest decade ever.

What we seem to have today is as many weapons as ever with a unhealthy violence culture present in the media. If one had a particularly dark view of the media, one might think it were to make us more supportive of cultural and national violence. This foolish child apparently embraced violence and murder as a tool to acquire the most valued treasure of the kingdom; fame. That we are obsessed with possessing something that is perhaps most accurately described as a curse, is an blight upon our culture itself.

  18. ggore says:

Please, this kid was just a simple “gun enthusiast”, exercising his god-given First Amendment rights to stockpile as many weapons of any type that he wants, as long as he or in this case, his parents, can afford.

He was bullied at school, so his god-fearing parents pulled him out of that liberal-infested, fag-loving, men-bashing cesspool of an institution so his parents could bring him up in the RIGHT WAY, knowing that the earth is flat, was created in 7 days just 3872 years ago, men chased dinosaurs with spears, and that people of any other religion are heathen and should be killed on the spot.

Just a normal kid. (This written with tongue firmly planted in cheek, fyi.)

  19. Mr. Fusion says:

    #15,Lauren,

I mean, gimme a fuckin’ break, OK? Maybe you fell off the turnip truck last night, but I didn’t…

What ??? You rode it all the way home ???

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Actually, I agree with your point.

  20. Phillep says:

Li, I was commenting on the news coverage. Even Fox is going along with the propaganda effort:

    Mom Charged in ‘Columbine-Style’ Plot
Mother of 14-year-old accused of having huge cache of guns charged with buying her son three weapons.

“Huge cache”? Well, it’s up to two .22’s and the 9mm. “Huge”, eh?

The “grenade” was supposed to be a pill bottle with a mix of gun powder and metal pellets. While this is clear intent to do harm, the actual grenade would be ineffectual unless that was “black powder”.

  21. Normal person says:

Give me a break…anybody that thinks this is not a big deal is a moron! When it happens in your neighborhood, let’s see how you react! Media hype is a constant in this society but have enough sense to read between the lines and look at several points:
    1. Homeschooled kid whose parents if they were indeed teaching this child, which is suspect, should have known nothing positive was going to come from a fat kid previously bullied in school, collecting guns and weapons.
    2. Father is a convicted felon who is not allowed to live in a home with guns. Father also bought one of those weapons and put on the gun application that he was not a convicted felon
    3. Mother, a big fat house frau, bought a gun for her loving son for what reason….what the hell did she think he was going to do with it, shoot bunnies in the backyard?

We don’t need the media to hype anything about this case…that kid was a ticking time bomb and his parents just lit the fuse. They all should be locked up and that little fat juvi should be tried as an adult and left to rot in a cell for 20 years right next to his wonderfully attentive parents.

  22. Phillep says:

Hey, Normal, I thought the Conservatives were the ones who only thought in simplistic terms?

    Yes, there is a problem.

HOWEVER, “Huge cache of weapons”? The actual “cache” (everything in one place) consisted of /one/ weapon, plus a gernade that, if as described, would be a dud.

ONE WEAPON is a “huge cache”?

  23. OmarTheAlien says:

I dunnoe, there was a sword, maybe the kids just a collector. But did you see the pictures of those two, mother and son? Very, very, large units, and butt ugly, to boot. Lotsa simmering under the hood there, can you imagine the hammering that kid took in school? As usual, the media just skimmed the surface, leaving untouched the brewing cauldron of misery inside that kid, probably not helped by his sicko parentals. Ya think he ever had a girlfriend, or even a kind word from one? As a kid I was big, and not even close to being cute, but I played football and tended to hit people who messed with me, so school wasn’t all that bad, although home was a different story. But this kid doesn’t look like he had that “toughness” you need to survive being just a little bit “different” from the other kids. There is no telling what might have happened.
