Yes, yes. Not all Muslims agree with this, but I bet if there were Martians we would have an easier time Americanizing them than Iraqis who do. And that is, ultimately, what we want to do there because it makes getting their oil easier. This leads to a larger question: should we morally superior Americans try to change them just because our beliefs are better and as strongly held as theirs? Would we be willing to change if things were reversed?

‘My daughter deserved to die for falling in love’

For Abdel-Qader Ali there is only one regret: that he did not kill his daughter at birth. ‘If I had realised then what she would become, I would have killed her the instant her mother delivered her,’ he said with no trace of remorse.

Two weeks after The Observer revealed the shocking story of Rand Abdel-Qader, 17, murdered because of her infatuation with a British solider in Basra, southern Iraq, her father is defiant. Sitting in the front garden of his well-kept home in the city’s Al-Fursi district, he remains a free man, despite having stamped on, suffocated and then stabbed his student daughter to death.

Abdel-Qader, 46, a government employee, was initially arrested but released after two hours. Astonishingly, he said, police congratulated him on what he had done. ‘They are men and know what honour is,’ he said.
[…]
‘Death was the least she deserved,’ said Abdel-Qader. ‘I don’t regret it. I had the support of all my friends who are fathers, like me, and know what she did was unacceptable to any Muslim that honours his religion,’ he said. […] ‘That girl was a mistake in my life. I know God is blessing me for what I did,’ he said, his voice swelling with pride.

What an inane question. We ARE morally superior, and this story proves it. The man killed his daughter for loving someone he doesn’t approve of, AND his peers/authorities (the police) approve of it. He’s not in jail nor in a hospital. This shows that their culture is far far worse than ours, and as much as I don’t like losing older cultures for posterity, I think this entire culture should be removed from the earth.

Until then, it would be far easier if we got rid of our oil dependency so we can let them all rot.

In this case religion isn’t the unlying cause, however I notice that imams do not seem to be rushing to stop these practices. Ah well, at least they don’t seem to be trying to twist their books to say it’s “OK” like so many do.

Sadly, people who like to equate a crazy woman who says “Jesus made her do it” and then is properly punished (as she should be) with socially acceptable and approved “honor killing” are part of the problem.

    I’m looking at you #14/15.

If you can’t see the difference in the way the US treats a loon like that crazy woman, and the way the authorized government of Iraq treated this guy, then you aren’t any better off than the worst of human kind.

How on earth “in God we trust” is just as bad as “I’ll kill my daughter for even daring to talk with a British soldier” is beyond me.

As a proud Christian, I may believe sex outside of marriage is wrong, but believe it is entirely wrong to kill the girl or guy who does it.

Christians’ preach morality, but with forgiveness and redemption for the fallen. Sure, we believe some things are wrong, but even in a “right wing” church like mine, you’ll never find anyone who would approve of killing people for anything short of murder.

Sadly, the more of Islam I see, the more I fear for my families’ safety in a world where those that practice it grow in numbers and power.

    36. tchamp2 You need to do more than watch CNN to understand mainstream Muslims.

In any case, I have to once again note the irony of the tendency for atheists to practice birth control while the many religious-types of the world continue to have big families. Wonder how this will work out power-wise?

  6. This isn’t poking our nose into other people’s business when these horrific murders are taking place in Western countries. Standing up for human rights isn’t poking our nose into other people’s business.

The blindfolds of multiculturalism and moral relativism are dangerous and a cop out.

We are our sisters’ keepers. We need to cry out when other human beings are denied their basic human rights and dignity and lives.

It is never ok to act as accuser, prosecutor, judge, jury and executioner. Ever. Anywhere.

It’s asinine to say that their willingness to do stupid, hateful things to each other makes them unbeatable. The contrary is true.

It just means that the percentage of them that will have to die before the others see the light is a little larger, that’s all.

Well, maybe SOMEONE can beat them, but it’s clearly not the amassed power of the United States military.

When these horrific murders take place in wester countries, the murderers should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. LWOP sounds about right. However THIS horrific murder didn’t take place in a western country; it took place in a country where we’re poking our nose in. And we’re not even DOING anything about the horrific murders; if anything, we’re committing horrific murders of our own, courtesy of Dick Cheney’s button men.

  10. The STOP HONORCIDE! campaign was launched on Mother’s Day 2008. The goal of the campaign is to prosecute honorcides to the fullest extent of the law. We want honorcide to be classified as a hate crime and we advocate for every existing hate crime legislation to be amended to include honorcide.
