Quaint Village

I was in Sweden all week and spent last night in Kyrkesund, a quaint coastal one-time fishing village turned yuppie haven. Next week I’ll be reporting on some of my discoveries in the weblog. This will be after I sort through the approximately 700 photos I took!

Over the years, John, your photos are getting better and better. This is one of the best.

    Very nice!

700? Were you juggling multiple-cards (memory) on multiple-cameras, or a few big cards on one camera?

I just picked-up a larger card for my camera, to try to ensure I have enough room for a weeks-worth of vacation shots in Canada. I couldn’t afford one last year, when I got the camera. Nice to have all the huge, high-speed cards drive the price of large, slower cards down to where I can afford one.

Cool………………………………Can’t wait..BTW the shot you posted is really nice..–Richard

Thanks..my photography has only improved because now I have a bigger selection of pics to choose from since film is free. Maybe my appreciation of light HAS improved too.

In the case of this trip I brought two cameras..my pocket X50 loaded with a gigabyte card (good for about 450 or so as I recall) and an Oly 8080 equipped with a 512 XD memory, 2 gig Kingston and 1 Gig San Disk Ultra ii. I bring extra memory and keep the pics on the cards as well as back them up onto the laptop. Once I have two copies secure I will erase the cards. I do not advise shooting only with a single card then offleading it on the road. First of all you have zero backup. And these cards DO blow up. It happened to me once and I had only the one card. This I had nothing to shoot on. AND I wasn’t about to buy another card when I already have a lot at home.

  5. Ed Campbell says:

Now, I don’t feel so candyass about redundant cards. I haven’t yet needed to use one; but, I have a 1-gig drive in my newest Olympus — and a couple of backup 256’s in the case. My older Olympus lives behind the seat of my pickup with a 512 card, a backup 256 in the case and another backup 256 in my briefcase.

And spare batteries, John. If the rechargeables die when I’m out in the middle of some mesa or other — I always have spare alkalines stashed somewhere.
