GENEVA — Two shipments of the deadly flu virus that a local company sent all over the world have not been found.
Shipments sent to Mexico and Lebanon remain unaccounted for, the World Health Organization said.
Other samples have been destroyed or will be destroyed by Saturday, the WHO said.
Meridian Bioscience Inc., of Newtown, included the specimens in nearly 5,000 test kits sent to labs in 18 countries.
Meridian officials have refused to comment, and health officials have speculated on whether Meridian did it knowingly or by mistake
I can’t understand why this hasn’t been all done in secret. Why was it considered wise to advertise that deadly viruses were included in those batches? This seems silly beyond belief. Unless someone wants us to stay afraid…

There is way too much distribution of lethal, untreatable disease floating around the “research establishment” for it
not to be released some way. Add to that, few facilities are level 4 and not all are level 3. And, of course, the
transport vulnerabilities.
And then we have yer basic dumb shit, as in this case.

Has anyone heard a good explaination why a 50-year-old virus needed to be shipped to THOUSANDS of locations?
I can see why they’d want to archive viruses but wouldn’t a half dozen secure labs within the USA be sufficient for this?
I’ve read several articles on this issue and have yet to hear an explaination that makes sense to me.
This should never even have been news at all.
Laboratories regularly receive unknown specimens of all types of unknown dangers from unknown people. This is the reason they are required to practice “Universal Precautions”, the assumption that EVERY sample is deadly. The “Health Organization” that sent the samples out was the CAP, the College of American Pathologists. this is the governing organization of american laboratories, licensing laboratory technologists of all types (Medical Technologists, Histologists,etc., and, as a Med Tech, I’m proud to have been a member.
Samples are routinely sent to labs for proficency testing. Labs participate to assure their techs are good at what they do and maintain their skills – Skills that your lives depend on.
Tell me if this would be a news story:
Today, a lab received a specimen. It was handled with universal precaution procedures during testing, it was resulted, reported, then destroyed, all according to appropriate protocol and procedures.
This is what happened at the lab I work in, as well as thousands of other labs every day, including the day the so-called H2N2 samples from CAP were received and tested. Our lab receives and tests well over a million samples annually – this so-called “story” just isn’t news and never should have been
