I’m worried there’ll be a huge EMP blast when they create a new universe and we’ll all be thrown back to the technological stone age.

Excuse me while I rush out to buy a few thousand dollars worth of survival gear and a case of beef jerky.

The Toronto Star has ties to a site called Paper of Record that has a large number of archived DEAD newspapers (I am guessing ones either submitted or out of copyright) for free from a number of world locations. The Star morgue is pay only, but the other site is moderately useful in free mode, but it does limit you.

Man, is RealNetworks dead in the water. Nice people there, too bad.

Searchable newspapers online! Maybe this will help bring those guys into this century.

I understand that the new iPod has this shuffle feature that’s triggered by shaking the unit. And the Zune will have a similar feature, triggered by slamming the thing down really hard.

“It has been argued that the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) could produce one of these micro black holes. Although the Standard Model of particle physics predicts that LHC energies are far too low to create black holes, some extensions of the Standard Model posit the existence of extra spatial dimensions, in which it would be possible to create micro black holes at the LHC at a rate on the order of one per second. According to the standard calculations these are harmless because they would quickly decay by Hawking radiation.”

Anyway, they are only starting up one of the proton streams. They won’t even start up the counter-rotating stream for some weeks. And they won’t even try “crossing the streams” for some weeks after _that_. So you have at least a month. Don’t quit your job and give away all your possessions just yet…

Tried out the Genius feature in iTunes. Don’t use it.

It creates song lists based on your current music. Sounds good. You start playing a song and list of similar music shows up on the side including songs you own and those you don’t. All of them have a “Buy” button next to them.

It’s an incredibly annoying sales push. I see lots of negative Twitters about it.
