A Shelby County man and his wife said two doctors amputated the man’s penis without his consent, and have filed a lawsuit. According to the lawsuit, Philip Seaton, 61, went to have a circumcision last Octoberas part of treatment for a medical condition. Seaton said when he woke up from the procedure, he realized his penis had been amputated.
Seaton has suffered mental anguish, pain, and has More..lost the enjoyment of life, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed in Shelby County court last week against Dr. John Patterson, who performed the procedure, Dr. Oliver James, who administered anesthesia, and Commonwealth Urology, PSC. The lawsuit states that Patterson received consent to perform a circumcision and only a circumcision, and that Seaton did not consent to his penis being removed.
Kevin George, the plaintiff’s attorney, said Patterson amputated the organ after finding cancer, but he only had consent to remove the foreskin. “Sometimes you have an emergency and you have to do this, but he could very easily closed him up and said, ‘Here are your options. You have cancer,’ and the family would have said, ‘We want a second opinion. This is a big deal,'” George said. The lawsuit also claims the plaintiff did not consent to general anesthesia. WLKY attempted to contact the doctors, but have not been able to reach them.
The Seatons are seeking punitive damages against both doctors and the medical practice. Attorneys for the defendants will now have a chance to respond to the suit.
This would take your mind off the economic crisis. Adding insult to injury BTW the above link is peppered with adds to “meet girls in your area”.
“meet girls in your area”. ADs
Oh ! Irony at its best .
Anyone who thinks that this is a funny story should consider what their reaction would have been if the story was about a woman having her breasts accidently cut off — doesn’t seem so funny, now, does it?
This type of medical malpractice is a tragedy and a crime, regardless of which sex it happens to.
That cut-carrot picture is not in good taste, and just goes to demonstrate that our sociey considers violence against a male as less bad than equal or similar violence against a female.
Something to think about.
#1 Dude
The guy had cancer IN his dick.
My question is how did the doctor know he had cancer by just looking?
I don’t know what I’d do, but I’d likely seek more than just financial retribution.
Is the hospital really going to fight this lawsuit? Don’t they have one lawyer that just says: “look, you cut off his dick. It doesn’t matter if radioactive spiders were crawling out of it. Just go get a truck, a big truck, fill it with money, and drive it over to his house NOW! There is no way in hell you are going to get out of this one.”
For those of you that missed the headline on this blog entry …
Removing a penis will not affect the sound of a person’s voice unless said penis is in their mouth. However, removing their testicles may change their voice.
#4 San Quinton – The doctors said it looked cancerous because it was all shriveled.
“There was shrinkage!” – George Costanza
A difficult medical decision, save the life or save the organ.
#6, Correct, 100%. The surgery was only for what was specified, period. They went far beyond the orders, that’s an automatic legal slam dunk win in court. Settle now or, get professionally castrated without aid of anesthetic and with a very dull butter knife.
If this was James Hill it had to be micro-surgery.

They wouldn’t allow it because clitoridectomy is a crime.
I love how LiveLeak insists that I click “I hereby affirm, under the penalties of perjury pursuant to 28 U.S.C 1746, that I am at least 18 years old AND want to view the media item on LiveLeak.com at my own risk.”
Or is that because of hot babe action adverts?
Aparently he signed one of those release forms they like to hand you as you are being wheeled into the operating room. At least that is what the hospital says. I do not think that will matter to a jury of men, a jury of women on the other hand…
Measure twice cut once
Sad day for buckwheat.
At least he’s got his balls.
My heart goes out to the guy, but can the surgeon prove it was cancerous? For his sake I hope so.
I wonder if the doctors screwed up the circumcision badly, then amputated everything claiming it was cancerous.
This is ridiculous. I know the doctor. He’s not an idiot. He’ll win in court; you’d know that if you knew all the circumstances. No pun intended…
