As it turns out, a declining market doesn’t hurt strip clubs at all. Chelsea’s V.I.P. club says business is up, and 80% of their patrons are Wall Street types. Things are going so well that VIP has introduced the most ridiculous thing ever: the $1000 lap dance.
Here’s how the New York Times describes the Grand Dance:
In a moment of shrewd business, perhaps, Mr. Zherka and the club decided to introduce a premium product: the $1,000 lap dance package.
The package will buy a 20-minute lap dance, a bottle of Dom Pérignon and a private Champagne room. Not to mention, as Mr. Zherka did, they also “get to keep the girl’s G-strings.”
Of course, at the standard price $20 a dance, you could get a twenty-minute lap dance for around $150. So you’re basically paying $850 for champagne and underwear.

That price isn’t that outlandish in strip club terms. Privacy is EXPENSIVE in a strip club, because it’s a big risk to the club from a legal standpoint. Figure that normal cost triples just for the privacy. What’s that bottle worth? $100 or more? (So they’d charge twice that or more if you just ordered the bottle yourself, this deal aside? Be interesting to know.)
Now, the idea that you’re paying extra for used underwear qualifies as creepy. And I hope you plan on pouring the drink on her ’cause who drinks a bottle in 20 minutes with 2 people?
#12 – I’m pretty sure Chris Rock is wrong. I’ve never been to a “champagne room”. But I’ve been propositioned in clubs before in a explicit, businesslike way that tells me it was probably for real, but I bet that’s not what’s going on here. If the club advertises a price for something, they’re getting that much for whatever legal activity is going on. If the girls use that privacy to do business on top of that, I suspect that happens some places, but I am quite sure it’s above and beyond the advertised price.
In this case, I’d guess it’s being marketed to people who will pay the price just for the fantasy and ego-stroke despite it being a monumental waste of money.

i know for a fact that business is slowing down there. one of my best friends of 25yrs+ works there. the tips have dropped significantly on top of the fact that they’ve cut back her hours there.. -to the point that she’s having trouble making rent.
all the girls there have been seen a big drop in tips..
if you don’t want to get mauled for a “dance” when your there, just tell’em your with the “house” -then you can enjoy your overpriced champagne in relative peace.
