CryoSat, a European satellite launched to study the phenomenon of global warming, crashed into the Arctic Ocean on Saturday after its launcher malfunctioned, the European Space Agency (ESA) said.
The satellite, which was built over a period of six years, was meant to study the thickness of polar ice sheets and the speed of their melting. It was the first of the six ‘Earth Explorer’ satellites that constituted a program to study major environmental challenges facing Earth.

The name escapes me, but does anybody else remember that movie about aliens who are causing global warming to make Earth easier for them to colonize? The movie starts out with the news of a new global weather satellite crashing, making a careful analysis of temperature change impossible…
They could launch a series of these things to measure the thickness of the polar ice by crashing on it!
Sounds like the satellite misunderstood its mission.
Perhaps they should consider changing the mission name to “Space explorer – and while your there turn around and see what the earth looks like”

Maybe someone doesn’t want that kind of studies done, since it would provide actual data that is hard to dispute. The “Three Monkey Party” currently in power, and it’s zombie followers have had plenty of bad news recently (not that they listen to it anyway), and the last thing they want is corroborating evidence of something that is pathetically obvious to anyone with any ability to think and reason: global warming, as caused by human influence, is a fact. And we need to take it seriously, because if it has the expected consequences, it will be disastrous. We can not afford to be wrong on this one.
The people that deny the evidence of global warming are the same type of intellectually challenged individual that denies evolution… unable to see evidence placed before them, no matter how big it is, due to the blindness produced by their own prejudices and small mindedness.
You mean the same party that boosted funding for climate research? The cost of reducing emissions(hundreds of billions) isn’t worth the benefit(.06 degree drop in temperature).
