An Alabama football fan has been charged with murder in the slayings of a Louisiana State University backer and his wife, police say.

The killings happened Saturday after Alabama defeated LSU 27-21 in overtime. Investigators allege that Crimson Tide fan Michael Williams, of Owassa, Ala., killed LSU fan Dennis Smith, of Brewton, Ala., and his wife Donna, with shotgun blasts at Williams’ home, the Mobile (Ala.) Register reported Monday.

Investigators said Williams and Dennis Smith first got into an argument over the phone, and that the Smiths then drove to Williams’ residence, where the argument continued. Dennis Smith allegedly retrieved a pistol from his vehicle, threatening Williams, who armed himself with a shotgun and fired two blasts, striking and killing Dennis Smith, officers said.

Williams then allegedly shot and killed Donna Smith after she also threatened him, authorities told the newspaper.

Police officials said alcohol was believed to have been a factor in the killings.

What a surprise? And, of course, that will be part of the defense in court.

“Alcohol was believed to have been a factor”

No kidding. But let’s just go ahead and spend countless millions on stopping marijuana instead..

  2. UNKN says:

Seriously though, if someone came to MY house an started an argument with me, then got a gun and threatened me, I’d sure as hell shoot them too. I wouldn’t argue about football because I could care less about it, but if it was something important (as was football to them I suppose) and someone was dumb enough to come to where I live and threaten me with a gun, they best be ready to use the damn thing.

But if they were drunk then they’re all stupid and there’s really no excuse for it.

  3. comhcinc says:

yeah okay well this story is three days old and has already been proved to be false. they were drunk, already had problems with each other and the game had been finish by the time this happened.

  8. R.O.P. says:

What trailer park did this happen in?

  9. teliscop says:

These guys have the right idea. Why not arm players right out on the field? Fans too.

Don’t like the ref’s call? Blow him away! Cheap shot? Kill the fucker!

An armed football game is a polite football game.

The same kind of thinking you find in people still posting political crap after the election is over at this web site.

+1 for #1! You know that if they smoked a few joints instead of drinking a case of beer, this wouldn’t have happened!

Nothing was said about what the heck they were fighting about? “Alcohol was believed to have been a factor”? Yeah, so Football gets off as being one, I guess. Can’t dirty the reputation of the sacred cow of america, with murders and such. Just chalk it all up to the booze. There was probably a large “bet” involved, and the loser didn’t want to pay up. Again, they won’t tell us, because that would imply the game was the root of the crime. And I’m sure there are a small army of lawyers that would object to that. Even just a multi-million dollar business like college football, can buy a whitewash job of the news media.
