TVGuardian – The Foul Language Filter – TV Guardian – TVG. Who dreams up this stuff? How much cursing is there on TV anyway? Maybe on cable, but this is designed to take advatange of required closed captioning for broadcast TV. Maybe these folks should just watch less TV, eh?

  1. Imafish says:

Has anyone at the company actually watched closed captioning? The timing between the text and the speech is always WAY off. There is no way it could possibilty work 95% of the time.

  2. Imafish says:

I don’t see how this could work. Has anyone at the company ever watched closed captioned television? The audio and text are NEVER in sync. There is simply no way it could ever work at the claim 95% rate, without it cutting a lot of non-profane content along with it.

  3. Anonymously says:

In theory this would be great if every TV had it, it worked, and the FCC abolished all its obscenity rules. Thereby, I could watch TV that wasn’t watered down for children, and parents could tune out the profanity.

But it not every TV has it, it doesn’t work if it’s relying on closed captioning (i.e., the delay), and the FCC will never get rid of the obscenity rules. So it’s a waste of time.

And as Dvorak mentioned, where’s the swearing? The company’s site says it doesn’t monitor “live broadcasts, such as news or sporting events…” Well, isn’t that where 99.9% of the swearing on broadcast TV shows up? When was the last time Joey told Ross to “go fuck himself?”

  4. MrScience101 says:

I have it, and it does work 95% of the time. It is quite amazing, because I thought the delay would cause it to mess up too. I wish like you guys do that the cable companies offered filtered tv and unfiltered tv. That way I could just order filtered tv and not have to worry about all the sex, violence, and swearing that is sure to eventually corrupt our country and destroy the family as we know it.

  5. Ed says:

    John,

Perhaps you only watch cable tv (if any tv at all). Both cable and over the air tv has been getting worse with the foul language for years! Of course, it depends upon your definition of foul language, I guess.

If you only think that sexually explicit language is foul, then you excuse the biggest part of what is now broadcast. To me, d**m, s**t, sob, ba****d, w***e, a**hole, etc, are equally offensive to me as f**k, q***r, etc.

Thanks to TV Guardian, I don’t have to put up with this garbage.

    Ed

TV Guardian is awesome, as a parent of three kids, I can tell this is great.

  7. Gary Guyy says:

A real fool is the person that puts down something he had no knowledge of or experience with. The TV Guardian is a great tool that works as well as it is advertised Your site administrator said, “How much cursing is there on TV anyway? ” I guess your so dull from hearing it so much that you can’t hear it anymore. The media if filled with swearing and this is a great tool and gift to parents who do care about what their children listen to and watch. Those of you that put this product down and don’t understand its need, need help.
