Don’t let a teen look this picture! He might kill someone!

You just have to know that this is the defense argument the kid’s lawyer will have him use. Forget the Twinkie Defense (look it up, youngsters), now we have the Video Game Defense. Perfect for the youth of today. “Mom, I wrecked the car because the video game made me do it.”

Remember Ted Bundy and his “confession” just before riding ‘Ol Sparky that porn was the reason he murdered all those women? It couldn’t be that a manipulative psychopath found one, last way to yank easily yankable chains, could it? Naw. It’s porn. Now, video games.

I occasionally read murder mysteries, so obviously, I’m a danger to society because they could give me ideas. Uh, did I write that out loud? No, no. I NEVER read murder stories…

Video games seized from teen’s home

Acting on a Florida lawyer’s suggestion that violent video games may have figured in Tuesday’s slaying of a West Feliciana Parish [Florida] man, sheriff’s deputies searched the home of one teenage suspect again on Thursday.

West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Capt. Spence Dilworth said deputies seized several video games rated “M” for “Mature” from the residence of Kurt Edward Neher, 16, but the detective said he is not drawing any conclusions from his findings.

Thompson said published reports that Neher told detectives he and Everette killed Gore because Gore would not let them borrow his car follows “the same scenario in (the video) ‘Grand Theft Auto.’ ”

Thompson testified before the Louisiana Legislature last month on behalf of a bill by Rep. Roy Burrell, D-Shreveport, to ban the sale of violent games to buyers younger than 18.

House Bill 1381 won approval in the House, 102-0, and cleared a Senate committee on Tuesday.

From another article on the same incident:

“Nobody shoots anybody in the face unless you’re a hit man or a video gamer,” Thompson told the paper.

I cant even begin to start on this.
I have played for 25 years but all the things that make me screwed up.
Way to go to the parents of that kid. Way to teach being responsible. Yeah take responsiblity for what you do.

This just freaking disgusts me to no end.

A pox on the jackhole that started that whole “video game” defense.

Now excuse me please i am going to play some games in this order.
    1-Atari
    2-colecvision
    3-Nintindo
    4-Super nintindo
    5-Sega Genius

“…to ban the sale of violent games to buyers younger than 18.” This idea pops up from time to time and it’s usually hooted down. But we’ve always acted on the assumption that certain things are bad for kids; alcohol, tobacco and porn, for example. We’ve enacted laws to enforce this assumption. So, is shielding kids from violence less important than shielding them from porn? If we pooh-pooh the idea that exposure to wanton bloodletting is harmful to kids, why do we go so far to protect them from images of sex? Can anybody help me make sense of this?

  3. forrest says:

If it’s the video games that make them do it, then it should be the parents who are responsible for this. It really isn’t the video game that made them do it, it’s the absentee parent that isn’t involved with their kids and let the boob tube babysit their kids that are at fault.

  4. Brian says:

Yea it’s the video games, wouldn’t be the thousands of killings that kids see on tv/movies. But you know, one flappy cocker spaniel ear boob with a pastie on it at half time is far worse than that.

    You americans are so funny.

  5. Anon says:

This argument is rubbish, but I’m also kind of tired of the whole “I’ve watched Bugs Bunny for 50 years, and I turned out OK” argument

Actually, using the same logic, you should be out there solving those unsolvable crimes. Finally we might get some closure to who shot JR, or Mr Barnes.

  7. Steve S says:

It is definitely the video games that caused this! I heard that Osama Bin Laden and Hitler played violent video games when they were kids. Draw your own conclusions!

  8. Brian says:

Great, now Jack Thompson’s gonna have a field day trying to take up all these crap cases.

  9. Jack Sears says:

Regulation or no, there are alot of parents out there who are under the impression that video games are exclusively for children.

Ironically, their own age group is the target market (but obviously not these folk in particular) .

When I was a kid at the video store, I knew what my parents would and wouldn’t let me play. I could never rent Mortal Kombat, (the big threat to innocence at the time) not because my dad saw a story about how its bad for kids on the news, but because he would pick up and read the video game magazines I was reading and see for himself.

He’d say, “Oh, this ninja’s pulling out this guys spine, that’s awesome, but we’ll tell him to get Spider-Man instead.”
