This story almost certainly makes zero sense because we’ve always known the Russians had been supplying weapons to Iraq. Who built the Scuds, after all? RUSSIAN special forces “almost certainly” removed the explosives missing from a military base south of Baghdad before the March 2003 US invasion and sent them to Syria, Lebanon and possibly Iran, The Washington Times daily said, quoting a US official.
“The Russians brought in, just before the war got started, a whole series of military units … Their main job was to shred all evidence of any of the contractual arrangements they had with the Iraqis,” deputy undersecretary of defense for international technology security John Shaw told the daily in an interview.
Of course the Russians will deny, thats what they do, but it doesn’t mean its not true.
Is it really any harder to believe than the Dem’s spin? Somehow, during an invasion, terrorists drove off with 300 tons of this stuff?
Shaw, who was in charge of cataloging the tons of conventional arms provided to Iraq by foreign suppliers, said he recently obtained reliable information on the arms-dispersal program from two European intelligence services that have detailed knowledge of the Russian-Iraqi weapons collaboration.
Why is this information only recently obtained?
If we are working so closely with our allies, in the war on terror – why wasn’t this information shared earlier?
We took satellite photos of Iraqi “decon” of secretchemical weapons production sites. Why weren’t we also able to snap pictures of the “pesky ruskies” caravan of weapons – from a known depot?
