One News – Auckland, New Zealand – August 26, 2006:

The parents of 17-year-old Liam Ashley, who was beaten to death en route to prison, say they were the ones who charged him with theft.

Ashley was found badly beaten in the back of a Chubb Security van on Thursday night. Although he was revived by paramedics at the scene, he died on Friday.

Ashley’s family say his parents wanted to teach him a lesson about the consequences of breaking the law. He had taken his mother’s car without permission so they had him charged him with theft.

On Thursday Ashley appeared at the North Shore District Court. The judge offered him bail but his parents chose to send him to prison as a deterrent.

But on the trip to Auckland Central Remand prison, he was believed to have been strangled and assaulted by two others in the van.

#29 No James, some of us really don’t know how you really feel. Why don;t you really tell us cause I’m really sure that here is at least one person that really gives a shit how you really feel, really!!!

    What’s with the Zing?

I always know how James feels. He feels hatred. That’s all right-wingers can feel.

I can’t find too much humor in prison rape jokes, either. WRT kids, psychos, rabid dogs, and political extremists, I think society has a right to defend itself. I don’t think society has a right to exact revenge or feel joy in another’s misery, no matter how well deserved. Euthanize a rabid animal if necessary, but make it quick, painless, and feel some empathy and sadness for a life wasted.

Very well put. Thank you for the eloquent summary. Some people here, on this and other topics, have this really nasty habit of blaming the victim.

  5. David says:

Well that kid will never be doing that again. I guess those parents showed him good.

  6. ECA says:

Strangling someone ISNT teaching them something…Its KILLING them.

Knocking them in the SIDE, Slapping them in the head, butting them around, is tending towards TEACHING…

I SAY AGIN…Where are the RINGS in the floor to LOCK THEM DOWN…

  7. J says:

Wow! I see a lot of judgment and anger toward a young man whose only known crime to us is that he took his parents car. He had no history of and serious of violent crimes.

In addition there seems to be some speculation as to why he got beat to death. Is it possible just possible that maybe he was just the easiest target for a more violent criminal to pick on and not that he did something to deserve it?

  8. Mr. H. Fusion says:

J, It’s called the “mob mentality”. It doesn’t matter what or why, this lower intelligence group gather ’round, blame the victim, and throw stones. It just gives them a sadistic pleasure. Sure their opinions are abhorrent, but then so are they.

So, let’s see what Mr. James Hill really has to say. His quote:

“Euthanize a rabid animal if necessary, but make it quick, painless, and feel some empathy and sadness for a life wasted.
Now you know how I feel about the left in this country.
    ZING! ”

    To paraphrase:

“I believe the left in this country should all be killed. Zing!”, said Mr. James Hill (paraphrased) in a national hi-tech blog on the Internet today.

Typical of dimwit knee-jerk reactionaries, radical or otherwise. They fail to take responsibility for anything, are willing to blame anyone else for everything, and whine when you expose them as dimwitted, irresponsible, bombastic hatemongers. And they have the gall to brag about what virile stud-muffins they are, willing to kill or maim anyone** who doesn’t see things through their viperlike eyes. But, as i said, they whine like any gutless bully when you do stand up to them.

It’s sad this kid was killed. We have no other facts. All else is pointless speculation.

** anyone in this case usually includes the likes of disillusioned veterans, teachers, old ladies, small children, Jesus… the usual lefties

    What about this?

1 -The person who killed the young boy did so to prove how tough he was. He said ‘that’s what happens when you mess with me’ in response to what he did. Was he proving how ‘street’ he was because he was going to jail, but what he was arrested for ws not hard enough?. The fact that Liam Ashley was in the van appears to be immaterial and maybe the attack was unprovoked. Would whoever was put in that cage with the murderer have suffered the same fate?

2- The security guards are not allowed to stop the van in transit. No matter what happens in the back. Doing so would cost them their job. It turns out that assaults are common. There was another inmate who required hospital treatment for an assault in the back of a van in Wellington this week.

3- He was probably on ‘p’

What is required for one to get ‘street cred.’ is continually being raised. Violent crime is spiraling out of control in this country It is a sorry state of affairs.

What abut the fact that the murderer was 25 and the victim was 17- how much cred. is that?

It is so disappointing. The parents of both parties must take some responsibility, but I don’t believe that they are totally to blame, as there are numerous factors to blame. For example – drugs, role models, peer pressure …

However, no one will take responsibility now as it’s always someone else’s fault and these types of incidents will keep cropping up.

Many of our nations kids aren’t alright, but they are the only ones who make the news.

I hope they keep his name suppression; it’s most likely what the murderer wants.

    I’ll stop now!
