Here comes the iPad jailbreak! iPhone Dev Team member musclenerd has released a video showing a rough demo of a jailbreak that’s given him access to the iPad’s software inner workings. While it’s more of a developmental hack than a full-functioning, consumer-grade jailbreak at this point, it’s only matter of time before iPad amateurs will be able to unleash the tweak on their own devices. And, of course, that means third-party application installers like Cydia are but a touch or two away.

    Now the iPad is intriguing!

  2. Rufus says:

That does make it a lot more interesting. What has always irked me about Apple is, they insist on being in control. But here we see they lost control on Day 1.

  3. nospam says:

    That was quick.

  4. dblnutcustard says:

Yeah! go team ipad dev & Geohot. Let the jailbrake ensue.

  5. Animby says:

iPad. I haven’t been so tired of hearing a word since … well, iPod.

  6. Lou Minatti says:

    Jailbreaking an Edsel.

  7. Arkyn1 says:

No, not jailbreaking an Edsel. The Edsel was an automobile, and therefore performed a basic function. The ipad has no function.

  8. Riker17 says:

Will the average user be able to use this jailbreak? I am not a programmer and I have no frickin’ idea what that code meant on the right screen. When and if the average user can do these fantastic things, then the iPad will be interesting. Until then, it is a paperweight.

  9. Uncle Patso says:

What’s the fun of opening a Terminal if you have no keyboard? Aw, who am I kidding? I used to enter ASCII on a hexadecimal keypad on a computer with 400 bytes of free memory! _Someone_ will get some use out of it.

  10. Cursor_ says:

Of course the reality is how hard is it to break into an operating system that has the heart of an OS developed in the late 60s?

I guess it is the same thrill that Houdini got when he was shackled to the nines and had a key in his mouth.

Well at least now the iFad might be useful for something.

  12. Personality says:

Ya, go jailbreak it. Then A$$le will start releasing “updates” every 3 days that will wipe out access to the OS and require you to jailbreak again, and again…

This is what you get when you buy locked down pretty pretties. Stick with android people.

I’m still trying to understand what I’d do with one of these things if someone gave me one.
