Probably still safer than this guy!

BBC NEWS | Americas | New bill for blind Texas hunters — FYI.

Blind hunters would be able to use laser-sighted rifles to hunt animals in Texas, if a bill introduced in the states legislature is successful. Republican Edmund Kuempel proposed an amendment to existing law that would permit “legally blind” people to use a laser-sighting device when hunting. Current Texas law prohibits the use of laser sights, spotlights and headlights for hunting purposes.

A sighted person would be legally required to accompany the blind hunter.

“This opens up the fun of hunting to additional people, and I think thats great,” said Mr Kuempel.

    Volunteers anyone?

    This is just freaking stupid.

  3. James Hill says:

Look on the bright side: Cheney will have someone to hunt with again.

am i having one of those acid flashbacks? Didn’t we already discuss this a week or two ago?
I could be mistaken since I belong to so many news blogs and stuff.

We sure did, but I guess John wants to test our long-term memory. 😉

  6. Stupid Is As... says:

    Great idea!

But, whatever you do, focus on this point:

DO NOT SUBMIT A BILL TO LIMIT EXECUTIVE COMPENSATION!!!

That would be ludicrous, rich people need MORE MORE MORE.

  7. Gary Marks says:

I refuse to be surprised by anything that residents of the great state of Texas do. I also refuse to be surprised by what some hunters will stoop to in the name of “sporting fun.” By next year, they’ll probably be putting blindfolds on the deer to make the hunt more fair 😉

  8. Ren says:

This is just a way to make the laser sights easier to get in Texas. Too bad we can’t find a way to arm the animals, then hunting would be a real sport.

    “friggin lasers on their heads”?

  10. Mike says:

#7, there are still people who hunt for the food. Why shouldn’t they be allowed to use a laser sight?

Regardless, blind people hunting is a bad idea.

  11. Gary Marks says:

#10, you make an excellent point, and my heart certainly goes out to all the people who might otherwise starve if not allowed to hunt using laser sighting 😉

  12. Mr. Fusion says:

#11, What if they are using a bow. Can they still use a laser?

  13. Gary Marks says:

Mr. Fusion, great idea — I’m sure bows can be equipped with laser sights as well. And can I just drop another hint here?….. laser sights, clubs, baby seals. Connect the dots, but don’t tell anyone you heard it here 😉

    Texas is awesome!

  15. Seems like no matter where you go, no matter what the topic, and no matter how unrelated you can always find some frothing leftist who will puke their pablum on a comment section. Rich people getting money? How horrible! Lets ban rich people being rich, who cares if it has anything to do with the topic at hand or not!

In any case I’m a bit confused how this is remotely a good idea for anyone involved.

Actually this type of hunting is very rewarding for both the blind person and the sighted helper.
I know this as I have been on several hunts with blind folks in MI.
One was a young boy that was on his first whitetail hunt.
The joy of accomplishment of being able to do what sighted people are able to do was and is the goal here.

If I ever lose my sight I just hope and pray that I’ll have the tool and the laws to enable me to pursue my love of hunting in the out-of-doors.

    Just my .02.

    Travis
