The swine flu pandemic could kill millions and cause anarchy in the world’s poorest nations unless £900m can be raised from rich countries to pay for vaccines and antiviral medicines, says a UN report leaked to the Observer.

The disclosure will provoke concerns that health officials will not be able to stem the growth of the worldwide H1N1 pandemic in developing countries. If the virus takes hold in the poorest nations, millions could die and the economies of fragile countries could be destroyed.

  1. bobbo, not an epidemiologist says:

It will be interesting when some flu comes along and the death rate in vaccinated countries is quite low compared to unvaccinated countries.

Unless the UN is doing a good job of vaccinating the whole world every year, shouldn’t the differential performance be well established by now?

How come this isn’t reported one way or the other?

Epidemiology studies like this would be tantamount to a real “experiment.” My suspicious nature says sounds like there is no difference?

    Faith fails me again.

  2. Glenn E. says:

Well a long time ago, they knocked out the Small Pox virus. Accept the US and Russia kept samples for “study”, and in case it could be used as a weapon. Then the USSR fell apart, and their sample disappeared. Last time I heard there was talk of Small Pox returning. The 1919 Influenza plague wiped out millions, and then burned itself out. And nobody thought to save any of it. So they went to Alaska to dig up any frozen, buried corpses that die of it. So they could have the deadly virus on hand to “study” again. And you can bet that the US military and Russian Military both now have samples of it. Just in case. So why worry about a stupid seasonal flu? When our own military has worse germs, to hang over our heads if we don’t keep them funded to protect us from them. “Oops! Somebody walked out the door with the deadly flu bug, while we were under-funded.” Or “We should have funded the Russians to keep them from poverty. So their viral stockpiles wouldn’t fall into the wrong hands.”

We’re all being held hostage by these military overlords. Who accidentally loosen plagues if we don’t pay enough tribute. And what they’re calling “swine flu” now. Could really just be anything, flu like. But they needed the old moniker, to scare us into buying more shots in this economic recession.

As far as third world nation go. What happened to the problem of AIDS? Wasn’t that, and war and starvation the primary killers? How did flu become No.1? Maybe because the international laws can’t he changed to make vaccines free to them, the way other meds were about to be (or already have). Drug manufacturing just requires the right formula and chemicals. Vaccines require getting a strain from a controlled source, to make copies of. It can’t be so easily be created from scratch.

  3. pedro's Mom says:

As many above have already pointed out, all this governmental crying wolf is desensitizing the public to taking any governmental health warning seriously.

It sounds like a bunch of governmental bureaucrats trying to increase their funding levels in a broke economy.

I guess this is what 9/11 taught governments and bureaucrats; if you scare people, they will pay for and allow anything to make them feel safe.

    Liberty be damned.

  4. jollycynic says:

pandemic sounds good to me, we have enough dysgenic trash in the world as is.

  5. deowll says:

There are much worse diseases than H1N1 running around in 3rd world countries that need treated.

We recently had a teacher die in the system but it was pneumonia. We are wiping down every thing but what we have is chicken pox, pink eye, the regular flu, etc. H1N1 is going to have take a number and get in line with the MERSA and the rest of the crap we have to worry about.

I got my regular flu shot and that’s it.

  6. MikeN says:

And the poor nations don’t have anarchy now?

  7. pedro says:

#26 Yeap. It’s funny when the UN pretends they care whenever there’s money involved yet cares a rat’s ass about the dimwits that rule those poor nations.

  8. ECA says:

    I’ll post this here also..

    OK,
    Understand this..
    5,000,000,000 people in the world..
the DEATH rate for this virus is??
    0.05% chance..
OR 250000 people MAY DIE..EVEN if 10 times that DIED around the world..
2,500,000..Not even 1% of the USA population. for the WHOLE WORLD. Even if you made this DOUBLE..THAT IS A WORLD WIDE NUMBER.
for it to be 1% of the WORLD, you would need to make that NUMBER 500,000,000 divide that by 300,000,000 and its ALMOST DOUBLE the USA population, about ALL of the America’s.. and the WORST parts of the infection, WONT be in developed nations. it will be SIDE AFFECTS, like pneumonia.. that will KILL them off. Why not treat everyone for pneumonia..ITS CHEAP.

What is this thing about MAKING PEOPLE LIVE forever?? 1% is NOT a devastating DEATH RATE..
HIT 5% and you have a problem. Esp if its reoccurring.. If you get this bug, chances are you WILL survive, and wont get it AGAIN for at least 1-2 years..at the VERY LEAST.

Who remembers HOW the vaccination for small pox was discovered?? It was found that DAIRY MAIDS caught a Flu like symptom, called COW POX. and NEVER caught small POX..
    ====================
    has anyone watched flutracker??
    ITS NOT CHANGING…

  9. Mike D says:

Millions??? NO, BILLIONS must die. The UN can have nothing.

  10. ECA says:

If you could tell me that 1 billion persons would DIE of this…Thats about 20% of the WORLD.
    I would be worried.
