Murdoch’s Skype talks fall through – ZDNet UK News — It’s interesting to even think of the company’s value when there is no money being made. But it does have a large customer base. I’m told by industry insiders that Skype has too sell out soon since dozens of clones using the SIP standard will be coming out of the woodwork cheapening the scene. Gizmo is the leading contender for the moment.
Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp is understood to have held talks with Skype to buy the Internet telecommunications software provider for around $3bn but the talks broke down, according to The Independent on Sunday.
The newspaper, citing unnamed well-placed sources, said the talks between Skype and News Corp fell apart last month, just before Murdoch’s son Lachlan quit his father’s empire.
The paper said privately held, Luxembourg-based Skype had denied it was for sale but industry sources had said they expected the company to be taken over shortly.

I really really like skype.
I’ll wait until GAIM supports VoIP. Not only will it save memory to only run one client, it gives me an excuse to procrastinate the editing of my router’s packet queueing rules. (No starved-for-bandwidth stutters here when I finally get around to it)
If MySpace is worth more then half a billion dollars then sure… Skype is worth three billion.
Then again I don’t think MySpace is worth $500 million. I guess that’s where me and News Corp. disagree.
