Oh, yeah. Like this is any surprise. Repression of natural feelings and needs requires finding an outlet somehow. Eastern cultures made quality sex a central part of life and they flourished for many thousands of years. Western cultures have repressed it and we’re falling apart.
ChristiaNet Poll Finds That Evangelicals Are Addicted to Porn
If there could be one place protected from the cancerous infection of pornography and sexual misconducts, one would assume that the Christian church would be that sanctuary. But, recent research is revealing that no one is immunized against the vice-grip clutches of sexual addictive behaviors. The people who struggle with the repeated pursuit of sexual gratification include church members, deacons, staff, and yes, even clergy. And, to the surprise of many, a large number of women in the church have become victim to this widespread problem. Recently, the world’s most visited Christian website, ChristiaNet.com, conducted a survey asking site visitors eleven questions about their personal sexual conduct. (http://www.christianet.com)
Amazingly, there were one thousand responses to the poll conducted by ChristiaNet.com. ChristiaNet.com partnered with Second Glance Ministries in evaluating the poll responses and it seems the Christian community is struggling with many of the same “temptations” that the secular society is faced with.
“The poll results indicate that 50% of all Christian men and 20% of all Christian women are addicted to pornography,” said Clay Jones, founder and President of Second Glance Ministries whose ministry objectives include providing people with information which will enable them to fully understand the impact of today’s societal issues. 60% of the women who answered the survey admitted to having significant struggles with lust; 40% admitted to being involved in sexual sin in the past year; and 20% of the church-going female participants struggle with looking at pornography on an ongoing basis.
“There have been dynamic paradigm shifts in the behavior of Christians over the last four years,” explained Jones. “Technology [the Internet] has allowed pornography to flood the market place beyond a controllable level.” Jones’ ministry also includes providing Christian intervention programs for churches and for individuals. All of Second Glance Ministries’ services are free and recipients may remain anonymous.
“We directed over 100,000 inquiries to Second Glance Ministries in one year,” stated ChristiaNet.com’s President, Bill Cooper. “We are seeing an escalation to the problem in both men and women who regularly attend church.” ChristiaNet.com is committed to addressing the devastating consequences that sexual addictions can have on a family and society by providing a safe environment for blogging discussions and referrals.

Wouldn’t it be much easier if they went back to the way things used to be and actually allow people to vent their sexual frustrations without it being a sin? This would save us alot of those “Devstating consequences” and maybe even make the Christian followers a bit more tolerable to be around. Heaven/God (whatever) forbid we actually hold on to a few of our animal-like tendencies and fulfill the reason we are here in the first place. (psst, I’m talking about sex and reproduction.)
Just the 2 cents of someone who is atheist for reasons not unlike this.
Well, Jesus didn’t have a lot to say on the topic, but Paul would have the human race extinct (read him again – he’s all for NO SEX EVER).
Just a bit screwed up if you ask me.
Hopefully the church will get back to that whole “be fruitful and multiply” thing sometime 🙂
I like that part better =)
This is why Catholic school girls get in so much trouble. I went to a Catholic school and half of the girls in my graduating class were pregnant before graduation.
I believe that people with addictive personalities are addicted to many things… notice how former drug abusers and alcoholics become addicted to Christianity afterwards. Similarly, anyone who is obsessive about something like religion is succeptible to other obsessions including porn.
Not that I don’t believe the results but it hardly sounds scientific. I mean if word got out that this poll was on a christian web site I can well imagine that many folks dropped by to skew the poll.
With respect to John et al, but this is misleading.
First, lumping every single Christian faith into one survey is wrong. For example, some Southern Baptists support birth control, while Catholics do not.
Next please do some basic research before posting anything. A quick google search shows there is no “Repression of natural feelings” going on anywhere within the Catholic church. In fact within the context of marriage, they are actually encouraging people to have more sex.

The last point I will throw out there is “what is p0rn?” I’m guessing some of the more conservative christian sects would think SI’s swimsuit issue is porn while others would not. So are they talking about their husbands checking out Heidi Klum or Jenna Jameson?
Simply put unless I see the actual results and test set that helped obtained this so called result, I will assume the numbers have been skewed.
If you look at the survey questions ( http://christiannews.christianet.com/1154951956.htm ) you’ll see that the question from which they get the “x% of people were addicted to pornography” statistic appears to be:
Have you ever struggled with pornography?
Which could be read in so many ways, and hardly implies that the people who responded in the affirmative are addicted as the summary suggested.
“Lies, damn lies and statistics” seems to be the appropriate quote. Along with “Garbage in, Garbage out” – dreadful questions and an opt in survey, not a recipe for meaningful results.
Have you ever struggled with sin? Oh my god, I’m addicted to sin!
This post says more about good ole Uncle Dave than anything else.
I hope you can work through your faith issues someday.
As for Improbus, half the girls pregnant? Let’s here more, that defies all averages.
Ryan Smyth: Paul would have the human race extinct (read him again – he’s all for NO SEX EVER).
Don’tcha just hate it when guys hang their hang-ups on millions?
Phillip, I agree with you. Recently I was polled over the phone by a major organization and one of the “stongly agree, agree a little, strongly disagree” questions was a double negative!! I was answering it all wrong until I had the guy reverse and start over. I complained that nobody would get this right and the poll would be screwed up. He agreed and continued. Since this poll was done over a local issue I can expect the worst to come of it.
William K. Wolfrum – Unfortunately that would be all of them. Do a little research and you’ll find that nearly every race, color, creed, and religion has it’s scum of the earth. Ever heard of nambla??? Some just get more press then the others.
To prove my point, Mel says something while drunk which was very stupid and everyone is up in arms. Dan Brown rights a book that blasphemes an entire religion and he get’s a movie made out of it.
As for God not existing, lol, you are more then welcome to your point of view. But I must admit to getting a chuckle when ever I hear that.
Take care
#6: Good to see they’re loosening up. Now if they can only get rid of the idiotic rules against contraception so people can really enjoy sex without worrying about getting pregnant…
#7: Well of course this poll and the results printed on this Christian website are weighted propaganda. They’re opposed to porn and so they created a poll which was guaranteed to present it as a bigger threat than it is. The title of the post was meant to be both humorous and ironic, poking fun at the poll.
#8: I worked through my faith issues decades ago. I’m a very happy, very devout athiest.
It amazed me long ago, that when the OLD military went into war…
They had Camp followers, or even PAID “Ladies” to come along and “take the EDGE off”.
the military, fed them, and paid them, Secure from ABUSE, and it kept the men happy.
Cant say the SAME for sailors…
Who found being on a 6+ month cruise, looking for Whales, that Men FIGHT to much with a women around.
Why would someone chuckle over someone who does not believe in God? Where exactly is your proof there is a god…wait it is called faith, I forgot. I have respect for people who are religious and wish them no ill will, but I do not get a chuckle out of it. I guess I am indifferent to your views.
“Blasphemy is the defamation of the name of God or the gods, and by extension any display of gross irreverence towards any person or thing deemed worthy of exalted esteem. In this broader sense the term is used by Sir Francis Bacon in the Advancement of Learning, when he speaks of “blasphemy against learning”. Many cultures disapprove of speech or writing which defames the God or gods of their established religions, and these restrictions have the force of law in some countries.” Source: Wikipedia…I know it is a simple definition.
That being said it seemed that Dan Brown’s biggest dissent was with the Catholic Church in his story. When I went to see it I saw it as a form of entertainment, not because it criticism of Christianity, but rather his lack of understanding of history. I personally think the book that should have been made into a movie was Deception Point. It would have gone well it the conspiracy mode America is in right now.
There is not enough room to comment on all the other comments. The numbers are probably not that far off. Many people struggle with this addiction. Paul is not saying NO SEX EVER, just sex for those who are married ONLY. He’s saying that that is what God had for him and if God has the same for you then you should follow his (Paul’s) lead. The Bible also has instruction about fleeing from sexual immorality i.e porn. (1 Corinthians 6:12-20)
Another comment dismissing the “devastating consequences that sexual addictions can have on a family and society”, has never seen a family actually torn apart by the results of someone being addicted to porn and the fact that all sexual predators are looking at that trash. It all seems so “natural”, but it leads to far worse things down the road. That is why the Bible says flee from it. Thankfully, Jesus came and died for our sins so that we could be forgiven.
Whew….Yeah, I am glad that he died for our sins. Tonight, I will sleep well. I guess the non-Christians are screwed, huh? Oh wait, that’s what the Muslims say about non-Muslims. Hmmm…. now how can they BOTH be right and the other guy be wrong?
See my point?
The bible was written by men for men and has been changed by men for centuries. If someone doesn’t like something — they put it in the bible that it’s a sin.
As far as sex in marriage only — Marriage is an artificial institution that was also created by governments and religions. The concept of two animals pairing off for life to mate is not new — it happens in the wild all the time. However, exchanging rings and saying “I do” is entirely artificial.

For The Who, “Pictures of Lily made my life so wonderful; Pictures of Lily helped me sleep at night”.
For me, it was the thought that Jesus is the Uncle Christ and Paul is the Auntie Christ. Confused? It’s a Mystery!
I’m waiting for ALL of us to meet at the Perily gates…
And find out, WE ARE ALL WRONG…
and the Bubhists march thru.
According to the Gospels Jesus was never married. Wouldn’t that make Jesus a virgin? What would he know about sex?
Two things:
1)God created marriage not government or religion
2)Jesus is God and He created sex so I think he knows more than us about it and especially what is right or wrong about it and thing associated with it
All hail the Invisable Sky Giant … he is three, three deities in one, God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. All that theology is a bunch of horse hooie that can never be proven.
God has a real good sense of humor. Why else would he have the Muslims and Jews fighting over a piece of desert. And if that ain’t funny enough, he has the Christians just waiting to drop some heavy duty atomic munitions on the whole shit load.
God’s crowning achievement? Giving men tits.
Now that’s funny.
22.
God created Marriage??
God set 2 persons together to see what would happen and got Cain and Able. And about 8 other Bastards..
wonder if Adam was checking out the other women that God made ALSO..
#25, that’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all day. Good show.
As for the poll, even if it weren’t a perfect example of self-selecting statistically irrelevant BS, what would Evangelicals care (apart from grinding their axe I mean)? They can be forgiven for practically everything, so what’s the big deal?
*sigh* doesn’t anyone realize that Chistianity is an eastern religion? its not about Christians, its about American Chistians…
Quote: “the bible was writen by men for men and has been changed by men for centuries”. since i’m an orthodox jew and cannot make use of any vulgar language, i’ll just say that by posting this comment you’ve just announced your total ignorance of religious history; as for christianity – i’m not sure, but by us jews it has never & will never change (and superfluous to say: it was writen by god).
That used to be a store on ST Marks. It had some of the nicest clothing I’ve ever seen. Across the street is Trash and Vaudeville though, whoo hoo!
Derek, get a grip on reality dude.
BrokenHeart, shalom!
Mike T
Derek, one more thing….
1. God creates marriage
2. God creates sex
You left out 3….
Man creates god.
Mike T
ya! its quite right whatever bible said its divine book so its right.
