Israel’s recent war with Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas has sent cannabis prices sky high in the Jewish state. Boosted security on the Lebanon frontier brought a drastic reduction in drug smuggling, with the cost of cannabis in Israel up eight-fold, the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Smoking and selling cannabis are illegal in Israel. Trafficking from Egypt has also been curbed by Israeli patrols aimed at preventing Palestinians from smuggling in arms.

Ah, the perils of modern warfare. Cripes, I knew dudes who re-upped for Nam just to get back to their drugs.

    Will the suffering ever end?

  2. @$tr0Gh0$t says:

Drugs finance terrorist organisations around the world, so it seems kind of ironic that the very people of Israel would fund its enemies by acquiring illegal drugs.
Maybe they should also get those english DVD sniffling dogs to also prevent movie piracy. 😉

  3. Pfkad says:

Why not a drug policy with some semblance of logic? Why should terrorists get the vig? A reasonable government (Netherlands?) could cure a lot of ills by taking an enlightened stance.

  4. Roc Rizzo says:

Not to mention what it has done to the price of cannabis products in the US…
    Pffffffffttttttt.

  5. Improbus says:

Don’t tell Bush or we will be at war with Mexico and Canada.

#2 – That’s a big fat bogus bag of bullshit.

When the “let’s scare kids with lies about pot” lobby got in bed with their neo-con “let’s just bring about the end times and have it out” overlords, suddenly Osama was the demonic cousin of Cheech and Chong.

Isn’t true now, wasn’t true then, ain’t gonna be true tomorrow.

  7. Walter Sobcheck says:

It may surprise you that I once dabbled in pacifism myself – not in ‘Nam, of course.

  8. mxpwr03 says:

OhForTheLoveOf- I don’t see how you’re connecting anti-drug lobbyists to the neo-conservative ideology. Could you please elaborate on it? And prior to this administration there has been a long track record of liberal internationalists, conservative internationalists, and realist internationalist who were against the drug trade as well.

  9. mxpwr03 says:

OhForTheLoveOf – Could you elaborate on how anti-drug lobbyist are only related to the neo-conservative ideology and not liberal/realist internationalist ideology?

  10. No wonder they got their asses kicked.

  11. OhForTheLoveOf says:

#8 and #9 – Once again… I failed. In my haste to post between mind numbing menial tasks here at work… aka menial and pointless brainwork that serves no useful purpose in the grand scheme of life… I chose to use the words “neo con” which triggered a flurry of synaptic connections inside your head leading you to start asking about conservative, liberal, and realist internationalism, aka globaloney…

My comments never used the word “only” nor were any comments made about anything on a global scale… My comments share the traits of being both true and glib, and you, who I have come to believe is the ghost of Nixon, have read way too much into them.

The Partnership for a Drug Free America, and other nationally based conservative propaganda wonks representing Jesus freaks, pious moralists, and the remaining spirit of the Ladies Temperence League, decided to exploit 9/11 a few years back with anti-drug ads designed to imply that if you smoke pot, you are funding terrorist plots to murder Americans. This is the sole connection I was implying.

The falacy of the ads are that most of the pot is domestic or from Mexico and Canada… and that pot isn’t a dangerous drug. It’s inclusion as a schedule 1 narcotic is quixotic, and not simply because it is not a narcotic at all.

But look who attacked us. Buying gasoline offers more support to terrorists than buying a dime bag of Mary Jane.

I’m not sure how serious AstroGhost was in his post, but I never meant to drag out Hobbes vs. Locke, Chamberlain vs. Churchill, or to involves a cadre of assorted internationalists and thier relatively unimportant views on the generic “drug trade”. I’m only saying that buying pot is more likely to support Jose from Guerrero, Cletus from Kentucky, or Doug from Manitoba than Fareed of the Popular People’s Front of Blowing Up Americans Who Smoke Dope.

  12. mxpwr03 says:

No I agree with you, those messages from Drug Free America were sleazy but I have to defend the neo-conservative ideology when I see it singled out as the culprit for the world’s aliments. In terms of marijuana you’re absolutely right that it is either domestically grown or otherwise it comes from Canada. Can’t blame the D.E.A. for trying though. Heroin production, one might be able to make a case for, at least in Europe. Oh and I do rather enjoy Nixon, even though he was way before my time, a little spying never hurt anyone. I AM NOT A CROOK!

Just imagine the cost of a concrete wall between Canada and the U.S…. 😉

  14. Jägermeister says:

    #11

@$tr0Gh0$t’s remark was about drugs in general support terrorist organizations. I would say that he’s partially correct, but the main drug trade is still run by normal thugs. And as for Israel… where do you think the pot comes from?

  15. Curmudgen says:

    #1 Priceless!!

  16. god says:

“domestically grown or otherwise it comes from Canada”! Wha?

You must live in a northern tier state, dude. Mexican hay arrives by boat, car, truck, air freight and backpack through most of the U.S.. In the top four sources of foreign exchange for our southern neighbor.

  17. ECA says:

It would be funny, to get some REALLY good bud,
Ship it to all these terrorist nations,
Get them Stoned to the point they REALLy dont care, anymore..

  18. OhForTheLoveOf says:

#16 – I’d give him the benefit of the doubt… I’m sure he meant to say “Mexico or” Canada…

#17 – If only marijuana worked that way. The best we can do is hope that for a few hours at night the terrorists watch bad Al-Jazzera Comedy specials, giggle too much, and load up on dates and hummis or whatever the Islamic version of the Twinkie is…

  19. OmarTheAlien says:

You could buy “packs” of American cigarettes, with the tobacco rolled out and the grass rolled in, the whole thing resealed and on the streets of Vung Tau it would set you back about 600 Piasters (six bucks, American MPC). The old people lied to us, said drugs would hurt us. Healthwise, I’d say the Stones are doing pretty good, and I doubt there were any drugs they didn’t do. Of course, they’re ugly as hell, but then, they were ugly then, too.

  20. brittney says:

maybe you should smoke some herb and realize how silly all of this is. FUCK THE WAR, FUCK THE GOVERNMENT.
