Exam supervisors at a German university stuck to rules so rigidly that a man with a bladder dysfunction had to urinate in a bottle in front of 120 fellow students because they would not let him go to the toilet.
Overseers at the University of Freiburg in southwestern Germany told the 27-year-old, whose bladder control was impaired in an accident that left him on crutches, that he would be failed if he left the room during the exam.
None of the three supervisors would accompany the man to the toilet despite other students’ protests.
Eventually one female student emptied her water bottle so the man could go to a corner of the room and relieve himself.
I grew up in a tough New England factory town. Teachers used to be this tough — and this stupid — all the time. One member of my family was taking a final in high school when the same problem arose. His solution? He just left his seat and went over and peed on the wall next to the teacher’s desk.
Maybe next time he’ll wear boots.

I don’t know about in Germany, but at least here the student could have claimed a disability and requested a special disposition. The supervisors and test administrators showed a lack of foresight.
This doesn’t surprise me. I spent 6 week over in Germany learning 2 semesters of German some years back.
What both impressed me and shocked me was how obedient Germans are at street cross walks (and other things). There could be no traffic in sight and they would just wait until the light said go. Also paying fare on the Bus was in part honor based.
Didn’t seem to be the practical thing for me, to wait with no traffic, but hey I was in their country.
They are a very rule conscience, orderly and think inside the box society. They also have a few extreme freaks and deviants over there.
But who is worse, US or Them; here we have zero tolerance we have over here for boy toddler kissing girl toddler.
