  1. Smartalix says:

This is cool, but volumetric 3D display technology in various flavors has been out for a while. What we need is a system that can broadcast a 3D image into free space. The closest thing we have to that is the Heliodisplay (albeit in 2D), and even that has to modify the air to create a medium to project into.

  2. John Paradox says:

    Complete with virtual ‘booth babes’?

    J/P=?

  3. Awake says:

Why did I all of a sudden start thinking of the “Laserium”.

Creating artificial objects in three dimensions using what basically are CAD techniques is pretty well understood.
But there isn’t any way to film real 3D objects without having to convert them to computer simulations.

I see an new avenue for the porn industry…

  5. Jägermeister says:

    Nice… How much?

  6. BubbaRay says:

Wish I knew who was responsible for the ‘holodeck’ started in ST-TNG. Many other Star Trek ‘inventions’ are now either in development or in the research stages, especially medical. Roddenberry sure hired some cool futurists, didn’t he?

  7. Cursor_ says:

Is there a PRACTICAL use for a huge peice of metal and a hologram projected inside it?
