TULSA, Oklahoma — A day care worker was being held Saturday in the death of a 2-year-old boy whose hands were bound and his mouth covered with masking tape, police said.

The boy, who had been on life support, died late Thursday, Officer Jason Willingham said.

Vicki Leigh Chiles was being held without bail on a complaint of first-degree murder. She was the only worker at the facility at the time, looking after eight children ages 7 and younger, Willingham said.

Chiles told police the boy would not be quiet for nap time, so she used tape to silence him, an arrest report states.

The “responsible” state agency is investigating – of course.

Too little, too late!

We live in a society that’s fine with a professional athlete or media star making millions. We pay the people charged with our children and overall safety a pittance, and are enraged when a minimum wage plus $2 an hour worker demonstrates poor judgement.

How could anyone do this to a child? Please refer to post #1 for an excellent reason.

  5. Mr. Fusion says:

NOTE: The difference between a juvenile delinquent and a rambunctious child is whether or not you’re the parent.

Children induce insanity. Other people’s children do it in spades. I’ve heard support groups work partly because not everybody goes nuts at once. I’ll bet this could have been averted simply by not having one accompanied person solely in charge. A second adult present might have raised the average sanity level enough to take more acceptable steps to quiet the li’l bassid without killing him.

Yeah, that’s pretty bad, but still north of Texas.

  9. Nick says:

I live in Tulsa, and I nearly gagged whn I heard this. I was the report on the local news of the caretaker getting the “perp walk” to the police car.

Sanity may or may not have played a part in all of this.

    The end result was insane.

There are so many wrongs in this story. Think about the DHS workers who showed up to close down the site just a few minutes too late. What would have happened if they hadn’t had to gas up that morning? What would have happened if they didn’t have that morning cup of Joe and just went to the site? What would have happened if they had just gotten one less red light? How do they live with that? And what of the parents of this child. You drop your kid off to go make a living and you get a call at work……

Damn it. Damn it. damn it.

There are some stories that affect you so much it can make a 40 year old father of 1 (myself) cry.

lol #9 – refer to my earlier post (#6), and then throw all tape away
