LONDON, England (AP) — Two suspects in the failed car bombings in Britain had contacted a clearinghouse for foreign doctors about working in the United States, the FBI said Friday, and British officials probed links between the attacks and al-Qaeda in Iraq.
An FBI spokeswoman said Mohammed Asha and another suspect had contacted the Philadelphia-based Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, as first reported in The Philadelphia Inquirer. Asha, a Jordanian physician of Palestinian heritage, contacted the agency within the last year, but apparently did not take the test for foreign medical school graduates, said the spokeswoman, Nancy O’Dowd.
On June 29, authorities defused two car bombs that had been set to explode near packed nightclubs and pubs in central London.
| Being a physician, he would probably have had no problem getting into the U.S. Was the U.S. their preferred target? |
| Found by Dallas. |

Were there 6 doctors in this terror cell? I am flabbergasted that Al-quaida would waste a resource like this. Its beyond bizarre. Much better to have had these physicians tend to the needy in the middle east for free “brought to you by Al-quaida”. But maybe, how “good” could they have been to have been so unsuccessful. We can’t lose against these dopes.
Brings me back to the question of just what is the Muslim religion. Peaceful that has been hijacked or misused or one-world religion keeping its head down while a minority? Ben Waymarks response that this religion is no different than any other and is just an excuse to rebel against rings a bit hollow.
How many more examples do we need to fix our immigration policy?
We should be intensely scrutinizing anyone that has been to any middle eastern country in the last 20 years (excepting soldiers and possibly journalists) before allowing them into the USA for any reason. Lets stop pretending we don’t know exactly what type of person is going to carry out the next attack.
I would support banning immigration and student visas for these countries outright.
Sadly it will probably take another major attack and few thousand more dead Americans before we can overcome political correctness to take the obvious steps to make our country safe.
2–When that happens, I know we are actually at war.
WAR—a disgusting evil activity causing as much harm to innocent loving people as it does to the enemy, therefore to be used only as a last resort. Stumbling not throught thru at all invasions of disinterested countries is not WAR, that is a political blunder with military usage.
So, I would avoid WAR for now. There is alot we could do with covert homosexcual muslim speaking agents, following banking transactions, trade restrictions and so forth. Got to think better and withstand nasty stories in the NYTimes to do that though. I doubt we have the stomach for it and can only continuously stay supine until WAR is our only option. Silly rabbits.
I think Muslims blend in alot easier in England than they do here in the US not to mention easier travel across EU lines. However, I have no specific facts to back that up. Therefore, England may be in more peril than we are.
Either way it is incredible to me that more terrorist strikes have not happened here given all the soft, populated targets.
Everyone here knows I admire George Bush as a smart, courageous president. The best the GOP has to offer. However, I wonder if he is responsible for keeping us here safe and sound. I think so. Thank you Mr President !
2 – That is a foolish and poorly thought out comment. If you think that banning or restricting people who travel to a region of the world will stop or slow terror you are sadly mistaken. Every country has someone who could be convinced to carry out such an attack and make no mistake these people will be sought after by terrorists.
2. How did isolating these countries for the last 1,000 years work out?

5—You mixed up #2’s comments. Have another go at it.
6—No country has been isolated for the last 1000 years. What are you thinking of?
#2–Actually, “to be smart” we should increase the number of student visa’s we provide. Our strongest weapon is the American culture–ie, freedom and individual liberty. Some will despise us for it, but most will envy it and think well of GOUSA values when they get back home. It is subtle things that can have the most impact. Should students be reported if they don’t show up for school and deported if they drop out?===of course.
I say, let everyone into the clubhouse.
The passphrase is “Islamic law is for dickheads”
9–Still not very clear what you mean. Saudi has been isolated for years, and wants to remain isolated, but it is in our interest NOT to keep them isolated? Is that it?
Well, no one is isolated in this world. Doesn’t matter what anyone might putatively want. And “countries” don’t want anything. Certain people in a country might want something, and others just the oppossite.
No–this thread so far is about what to do “specifically” as in closely scrutinize people who have traveled there ((can anyone disagree with that???)) and stop student visas–which I disagree with and think we should do just the oppossite.
Isolating a country or not is just too vague and doesn’t really mean anything except maybe a general direction. Please be more specific.
Might be the contact was just a trial balloon, and the results have been entered in a super secret data base that Osama and friends run in a shared computer network using hacked Christian church computers.
The Hippocratic Oath starts out:
“First, do no harm”.
Unless, of course, they are infidels which means someone from a ‘tribe’ other than your own… then go ahead and whack them however you can… poison, explosives, genetically altered food, whatever you can come up with. That will teach those godless secular crusader strangers a lesson, for sure, or at least get us on their television screens . (if not much else…).
10. Saudi has been isolated for years, and wants to remain isolated, but it is in our interest NOT to keep them isolated? Is that it?
Yes.
Specifics:
Westerners continue to work in these countries when invited.
Citizens of these closed societies be permitted to study abroad including the USA.
Western societies continue to aid these countries when called upon.
Western societies encourage trade with these counties instead of discouraging trade.
Mutual trade in cultural activities and performances.
Western societies make Western TV, radio and other programming, especially news, available to these closed societies via internet, satellite, etc
Immigration encouraged in both directions.
Exchange student programs encouraged both ways.
Professional accreditation programs both ways.
Support for tourism programs both ways.
Support for immigration both ways.
Or even unilaterally, if that is the best that can be achieved.
And, by my calculation, 4,692 other initiatives to help a traditionally isolated or closed societies open up to world-standard forms of conduct, rights, freedoms, etc. The opposite effect of these initiatives causing more isolation and thus further mistrust and misunderstanding. Ok?

13—Yes, I agree with your list except for the immigration. Dont see any “need” for immigration, so why have it?
>>Everyone here knows I admire George Bush as a smart,
>>courageous president.
Heh heh heh. That’s a joke right?
>>The best the GOP has to offer.
You might be right about that. 2008…..BRING IT ON!
It is very likely this so-called “terrorist plot” is nothing but a fraud – we are keeping the terrorists too busy in Iraq for them to attack anywhere else.
Either that, or the terrorists followed the withdrawn UK troops home – probably by hiding in their duffel bags.
#7 What are you smoking??
Inviting these people into our country to show them how wonderful we are didn’t help any of the 3000 people killed on 911.
Is it really going to destroy America if we have to go without immigrants from a few middle eastern countries?? I think not.
It may not be fair for the people in these countries who just want to go to school and have no evil intentions. These people can blame the terrorists for their misery.
Just in case you forgot….Every one of the 911 hijackers had a valid tourist visa. They spent plenty of time here to soak up American culture (including strip clubs and porno shops) and were still perfectly happy to barbeque themselves when the time came.
Ban immigration from islamic countries. Infiltrate, investigate and conduct surveillance on all domestic islamic groups. When that is done we can all breathe a lot easier.
17—Your comment entirely lacks merit on so many levels- – –
No public policy should be based on the characteristics of a single incident.
Your argument supports the notion that we should do away with airplanes because they can be used as weapons.
Contra–I’ll give you the factoid that The president of Pakistan was an exchange officer in his younger days. With many flaws, most of which we Americans cannot understand, absent that “Americanization” we would not have that ally in our War against Terror.
