Like with Harry Potter, someone is posting spoilers on the web

I want to see the mathematical proofs that God exists. It sounds from reading these course descriptions that there are ones. Or perhaps those are left as exercises for the students.

PRE-CALCULUS

Students will examine the nature of God as they progress in their understanding of mathematics. Students will understand the absolute consistency of mathematical principles and know that God was the inventor of that consistency. Mathematical study will result in a greater appreciation of God and His works in creation. Students who have successfully completed Geometry and Algebra 2 will develop skills in advanced algebra, analytic geometry, and trigonometry. The students will focus on the mathematics concepts that connect the thoughts of the mind with the realities of the universe, experiencing the creative power and order of God.

But it’s the econ class (bottom of page) that sounds the most interesting. I didn’t realize the concepts of capitalism and socialism and communism were known at the time the Bible was written. The things you can learn…

ECONOMICS/FREE ENTERPRISE
TWELFTH GRADE

Students will evaluate the past and learn from its lessons (I Corinthians 10:11), and become effectual Christians who understand “the times” (I Chronicles 12:32). Students will gain an understanding of the workings of economic systems, being able to identify the strengths and weaknesses inherent in capitalism (Deuteronomy 8, 15, 28, Leviticus 25), and the reasons for its superiority to the models of communism and socialism (Ezekiel 46:18).

Now where are those classes that teach critical thinking? I can’t seem to find them.

  1. grog says:

yo man, these classes may sound silly, but don’t forget — private schools are free to teach whatever they damned well please

i graduated from catholic schools and we were able to have discussions about morality that would be (and should be) banned in public schools, for example — “Thou Shalt Not Steal” as pertains to how nations steal from other nations, and how Christians have a particular mission to protect the earth that God gave us, etc.

point being — public schools should teach a complelely non-religious curriculum, leaving the god part up to the parents and the churches

private schools can teach whatever particular faith they want

btw, i totally support the concept that school districts can figure out how much per student they spend, and allow private schools to compete for that tax revenue, so long as the kids can read/write and do math/science, i don’t care what they believe.

  2. Todd Anderson, III says:

    #1 grog,
Don’t be so woefully naive — charter schools in districts that have an overwhelming majority of families who practice a particular faith create the obscene possibility of the tiny minority receiving such a pittance as to provide completely substandard education, not to mention the social stigma that children, especially teens will certainly dole out. And let’s not forget that prejudice thrives where faiths are kept separate.

I am of the mind that religious education is the role of the various Churches and should never be the business of the State.

  3. Mister Mustard says:

    >>so long as the kids can read/write and do math/science

Would that be regular math and science, or “christian calculus” and “intelligent design” science?

  4. Dauragon88 says:

Hey, at least this is better than abstence only Sex-ed classes.

“At your age, you’re going to have a lot of urges. You’re going to want to take off your clothes, and touch each other. But if you do touch each other, you *will* get Chlamydia… and die.”

  5. Sounds The Alarm says:

I encourage this heartily. We need a new generation of construction workers, min-wages workers.

Remember – its not electricity – its Jesus juice!

  6. JoaoPT says:

    #4 hey… happens all the time…

God inside the fabric of the universe… hmmm…. sounds that these particular kind of Bozos have been reading Carl Sagan…

What waste of a good reading…

  7. AL says:

The most frightening is the civics module (see especially the last sentence).

    GOVERNMENT/CIVICS
    TWELFTH GRADE
Students will evaluate the past and learn from its lessons (I Corinthians 10:11), and become effectual Christians who understand “the times” (I Chronicles 12:32). Students will study the foundational documents of our founding Fathers built upon as they formulated the ideals upon which our country was established. Such documents include: The Magna Carta, The English Bill of Rights of 1689, and the Mayflower Compact. Students are equipped with an understanding of the basic principles contained in these documents, and are able to identify their dependence upon biblical and Reformation principles, leading them to an understanding why the American system is meant for a religious people.

  8. sdf says:

    lim(x–>god) [ math credibility(x)] = 0

  9. julieb says:

Interestingly, it was calculus, physics, and dynamics that that solidified my disbelief in the supernatural.

  10. god says:

I used to live near a prestigious Jesuit college and became friends with the priest who ran their classic film series and taught media classes. He knew my mates and I were thoroughly grounded atheists and philosophical materialists – and that we often had weekend salons where we reserved the kitchen for discussions on philosophy.

For a couple of semesters, he made it a requirement for his graduating seniors to survive a weekend with us. Often, they left on Monday morning in tears. Then, he’d make the point to them that they only had their “faith” to go on – that science and history weren’t going to validate their belief systems.

It was great fun – for us, at least. Then, predictably, the college fired him.

  11. sdf says:

critical thinking is the enemy of theocracy. what these poor saps are subjected to would be more accurately called indoctrination.

  12. Peter says:

These people are a bunch of arrogant pricks. Here’s the first sentence from the “Art” class description:

Students will understand that art is a gift from God designed for His worship.

It’s a similar tag line for all the music classes. I wonder if they’re even aware of half the art and music in the world. For example, I doubt they’d use Dali’s “Atmospheric Skull Sodomizing a Grand Piano” as a worship tool (unless, I suppose, you’re a Catholic priest). Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” isn’t exactly a pious representation of human kind. And I’m being Euro-centric. What about Mayan or Egyptian art? How small a bubble are these people really living in?

  13. sdf says:

#13 well to be fair a lot of the great works are arguably drawn from some form of spiritual adoration, including mayan and egyptian art. I sense however that this school is more likely to produce velvet paintings of jesus.

  14. Dauragon88 says:

Uncle Dave, that picture is priceless!

  15. Todd Anderson, III says:

#10 A good friend of mine attended a Jesuit university and he told me that the course in Atheism, taught by priest, spent the entire semester disproving the existence of God, much to the dismay of the students.

It brings up the key question — if belief in God is a matter of faith, then why are so many people trying so hard to prove that God is real? Is your faith that weak?

  16. Peter says:

“I want to see the mathematical proofs that God exists. ”

There is a book with written over 1400 years ago with:

    114 chapters = 19 x 6
    6346 verses = 19 x 334

29 of these chapters begin with a 14 different sets of initials, such as: A.L.M, A.L.R., T.S., S., H..M., Q just to name a few.

    For example:

Chapter 2 consists of 286 verses and beings with the initials: A. L. M
The letter A occurs 4502 times in chapter 2
The letter L occurs 1892 times in chapter 2
The letter M occurs 2195 times in chapter 2
    Total occurrence of the letters A.L.M in chapter 2 = 9899 = 19 x 521

    Chapter 3: initials A.L.M.
    (all the A’s) + (all the L’s) + (all the M’s) in chapter 3 = 5662 = 19 x 298

    Chapter 29: initials A.L.M., total all the A’s+L’s+M’s within chapter 29 = 1672 = 19×88

    Chapter 30: initials A.L.M., total all the A’s + L’s + M’s within chapter 30 = 1254 = 19 x 66

    Chapter 42: initial Q, total occurrence of the letter Q in chapter 42 is 57 = 19 x 3

    Chapter 50: initial Q, total occurrence of the letter Q in chapter 50 is 57 = 19 x 3

In all 29 initialed chapters the initials occur in multiples of 19 with in their given chapter

    Why 19?

If you read Chapter 74 of this book it explains why the number 19.
The chapter is entitled “The Hidden Secret” in short it says that the human being will say that this book is, “clever magic” and that it is “human made.”

The following verse of chapter 74 verses 30 – 36 says:

    [74:30] Over it is nineteen.*

[74:31] We appointed angels to be guardians of Hell, and we assigned their number (19) (1) to disturb the disbelievers, (2) to convince the Christians and Jews (that this is a divine scripture), (3) to strengthen the faith of the faithful, (4) to remove all traces of doubt from the hearts of Christians, Jews, as well as the believers, and (5) to expose those who harbor doubt in their hearts, and the disbelievers; they will say, “What did GOD mean by this allegory?” GOD thus sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills. None knows the soldiers of your Lord except He. This is a reminder for the people.

[74:32] Absolutely, (I swear) by the moon.

[74:33] And the night as it passes.

[74:34] And the morning as it shines.

    One of the Great Miracles

[74:35] This is one of the great miracles.*

[74:36] A warning to the human race.

  17. Higghawker says:

It all comes down to your obedience to the Bible. The thing is, God has allowed you to make that choice. You don’t have to read it. On judgment day, every knee will bow.

This school seems to be missing the point? Of course it is man who thinks he can always do things better. It has always been this way.

  18. Mister Mustard says:

    >>if belief in God is a matter of faith, then why are so many people
    >>trying so hard to prove that God is real? Is your faith that weak?

Aww, give it a fucking break. If I want to believe in God, not believe in God, spend four years and $160,000.00 in college (or a private secondary school) arguing over whether or not God exists or is dead, that’s my right. At least until Little King Dumbya has his way, this is a free country.

Many things can be explained by science today. Some can not. Perhaps one day, all things can be explained by science (including the existence of God).

In the mean time, let people marry whoever they want, let them worship whatever god they want, let them find solace wherever they want.

Hatemongers (be they holy rollers, atheists, neocon nut jobs, or Democrats) suck dick.

  19. Higghawker says:

    Mister Mustard,

“In the mean time, let people marry whoever they want, let them worship whatever god they want, let them find solace wherever they want.”

It is these very basics, (marriage between a man and woman) (Thou shall worship only the Lord thy God) that keep our existence in harmony with God’s will. Like it or not, you live by God’s authority.

  20. Mister Mustard says:

    >>It is these very basics, (marriage between a man and woman)
    >>(Thou shall worship only the Lord thy God) that keep our existence >>in harmony with God’s will.

Highhawker, I hate to sound antagonistic, but fuck you.

At another place in time, you would have burned witches at the stake, crucified Jesus, burned Joan of Arc, sliced off the heads of infidels.

Live and let live, dude. Or is your “bible” one of those with the commandments like “hate thy neighbor”? Marry whoever you want, worship whoever you want, just leave me the fuck alone. And don’t burn me at the stake.

Whatever my God says to me, that’s how I’ll live my life. If your “god” says different, fuck him and the horse he rode in on. You can do whatever you want, but (and I hate to sound repetitive here, but right-wing holy rollers seem to be “learning-challenged”) LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE!

    Thanks in advance.

  21. GigG says:

#11 Eric, you are an oaf if you don’t understand how Ezekiel 46:18 relates to economics.

  22. Mister Mustard says:

    >>Eric, you are an oaf if you don’t understand how
    >>Ezekiel 46:18 relates to economics.

How? God didn’t like the estate tax, or taxing “carried-forward interest” income using the regular tax rate?

  23. GregA says:

“Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he was hungry.
“And when he saw a fig tree by the road, he came to it, and found nothing on it, but leaves only, and said to it, Let no fruit grow on you henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
“And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon has the fig tree withered away!”
    –Matthew 21:18-20

“The next day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry:
“And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if perhaps he might find any thing on it: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
“And Jesus answered and said to it, No man eat fruit of you hereafter forever. And his disciples heard it.
    –Mark 11:12-14

“He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamore-figs with sleet.”
    –Psalm 78:47

“Yes, this is what the LORD Almighty says: “I will send the sword, famine and plague against them and I will make them like poor figs that are so bad they cannot be eaten.”
    –Jeremiah 29:17

    In conclusion, GOD HATES FIGS!

  24. Mister Mustard says:

    >>In conclusion, GOD HATES FIGS!

Just imagine the embarrassment of those “God Hates Fags” idiots. All that hate wasted, like spent seed upon the sand.

I guess the only thing left for them to do is go back to the tents and fuck each other up the ass. Damn. I’d say “I’ll bet they hate when that happens”, but somehow I don’t think they do.

  25. Al says:

The bible is so contradictory and contorted that it can be used to justify any belief (that is why Christianity is so popular – it can be twisted to conform to what people already find convenient).

For example, here are some verses clearly supporting socialsim:

All that believed were together, and had all things in common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. (Acts 2:44-45)

    and

This is what the Lord has commanded: Gather of it, every man of you, as much as he can eat; you shall take an omer apiece, according to the number of persons who each of you has in his tent. And the people of Israel did so; they gathered some more, some less. But when they measured it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; each gathered according to what he could eat
    (Ex. 16:16-18)

    There are more.

  26. Misanthropic Scott says:

I want to see the mathematical proofs that God exists.

A friend asked me to read a book entitled A Skeptics Search for God by Ralph Muncaster (hope I’m getting the title and author correct, from memory and don’t feel like checking). It’s a book on apologetics.

Unfortunately, there are people that actually believe that they have such a proof. It’s based on wild calculations of probability that come up with numbers in ranges like 1 in 10^20 to 1 in 10^400 against “abiogenesis”, a term that exists only in apologetics, but means random occurrence of life from non-life. Understand, of course, that probabilities cannot prove anything of the sort.

Further, understand that this range of values if one is divided by the other gives a number 10^320 times the number of atoms in the universe. This means that the range of their calculations is such a wide range, that the high end is 10^320 greater than the low end.

I think, though I’d have to check, that if I were to say that humans evolved sometime between a second ago and the beginning of the universe, my range would still be more precise than this.

I gave his book back with large postit notes on almost every page detailing the errors of the book. I doubt I convinced him. I doubt anyone could convince anyone with real religious convictions of anything. Torquemada this; Torquemada that; I can’t Talk ‘im outta anything!!

  27. Misanthropic Scott says:

    #20 – Higghawker,

Like it or not, you live by God’s authority.

    Watch this:

God!! Hey God!! Fuck off and die! You already blessed New York. Now leave us the fuck alone so we can live our lives as peacefully as possible.

If I’m still here in an hour, I’ll post again.

Understand though, I don’t actually hate god. I can’t hate that in which I do not believe. However, I do hate the net effect that religion has had on the world. So the sentiment is real, even though I deliberately voice it against a creature in whom I do not believe. Some should also recognize that the rhetoric does invalidate your statement. If I live by god’s will and I curse god, I should die, right?

  28. BubbaRay says:

  29. Mister Mustard says:

    >>Understand though, I don’t actually hate god. I can’t hate
    >>that in which I do not believe.

Ok. Fine. Just leave the rest of us the fuck alone.

What part of that do you not understand?

We’ll all find out who was right on Judgement Day.

Until then, LEAVE US THE FUCK ALONE. Capisce?

  30. Misanthropic Scott says:

    Still here.

    #31 – Mister Mustard

I’d love to leave everyone alone with their beliefs. Unfortunately, people attempting to legislate that we teach mythology instead of science are not leaving the rest of us alone. Some of us want the freedom to disbelieve that which has no evidence and learn that for which there is evidence.

That is the freedom that is being challenged. No one is challenging the rights of the religious to believe.
