Each day, about 400 people in this Schuylkill County town of 4,500 come to see a mysterious image that appears on a garage door in an alley.

To some, it’s an image of the Virgin Mary that has appeared at 6 p.m. each day since Aug. 15 — the day of the Feast of the Assumption of Mary.

To others, it’s just a reflection of light from the setting sun.

“It makes you think about your faith,” said Joan Bettinger, who said she’s seen the image twice. When asked if it could be the real thing, she said, “It could be. Anything’s possible today. It does look like her.”

At least it keeps ’em out of the bowling alley.

why do you keep posting these? yes they are ridiculous, but after seeing 5 or 6 they just arent funny anymore. Right now there are 3 or 4 “appearing deities” on the homepage

Once again, we get blamed for God’s making too many appearances. He’s a little ham.

Ha, that town is 10 minutes away from me. Haven’t heard anything about it, though…it’s a VERY conservative area, that’s for sure!

I was thinking…(Yeah Jag, it had to happen) there are no heavenly Icons of Allah, or Jehovah – that is Idol worship, am I right?

    Cheers

Logic dictates… That there are hundreds of these visual apparitions that go unnoticed, for every one that does. If God or the Saints were really cranking these things out. They’d be the world’s worst ad agency. Especially as they seem to rely on easily refutable devices and medium upon which to appear, or appear by, to convince us that they’re real.

As for why any of these things happens to make the news now, more than ever. I think it’s part of the build up for the next presidential election. The GOP needs the religious to think it’s a sign to vote Republican. So in preparation, it can’t hurt to start a little pre-campaign advertising of a psuedo-religious nature, to wind up the masses into a voting frenzy. After all, the holy images are telling you who to vote for. Tall white garage door, ergo tall white president.
