Microsoft Hoping ‘Halo’ Is Goodbye To Sony — This will be the defining moment for the Microsoft gaming group. They might stop bleeding money and also manage to put Sony out of its misery.
Microsoft needs a big boost from “Halo 3” for its Entertainment and Devices division to post a first-ever profit in fiscal 2008, which ends in June. “This will be the biggest consumer entertainment launch in history. It will be bigger than any movie, any books or music and so forth,” Kim said. “‘Halo 3’ will be much bigger than ‘Halo 2’ was.”
“Halo 2” set a one-day entertainment sales record when it launched in November 2004. It generated $125 million in sales in its first 24 hours.
With this “Halo” launch, Microsoft has cranked up publicity with a host of licensing deals. The “Halo” universe has spawned novels, comics, action figures and even a new soft drink from Mountain Dew.
#30 – Was Nintendo able to sell Donkey Kong at $120 a pop?
They would have if it had come with the appropriate Donkey themed accessory…
28,
I SAID NOTHING about MS…
Its about Every program MADE in the last 5 years…AND Hardware also…
YOU ARE PAYING to be the final beta tester.
I have found that if you WAIT 4-6 months, MOST of the problems Have been fixed…AND even a better product is coming OUT…That I would rather play or buy..
I bought an Xbox 360, a couple of fifty dollar games, and brought it all home, and discovered, somewhat to my chagrin, that all I really want to play on it is the arcade games. Of course, I wasn’t looking for a life, just an occasional break from the rigors of my home studio. Now the big decision is whether or not to connect the damned thing to the router, so I can unlock the trial versions of the arcade games. Marble Blast rules!
I think there is a lot of MS animosity from Mac users in regards to Halo because of the way MS bought Bungie and turned Halo (then a Mac destined uber-shooter) into an XBox only game. Many Mac users are still bitter about that one.
The original Halo on the PC (a two year wait) was cool but many of the indoor levels were highly repetitive. It was, at best, only slightly above average. With Halo 2, MS made PC users wait over three more years to play it by which time it was seriously dated. AND you had to install Vista (which has proven to be a pure marketing scam based on the XP cracked version). Bitterness increases.
Now everyone is talking about Halo 3 like it was the Second Coming! Well, I for one think playing shooters without a mouse and keyboard SUCKS PORCUPINE SCROTUM! I will pass on Halo 3, the XBox 360, and Vista altogether, thank you very much.
I just hope the Xbox 360, Vista, and Windows Live don’t kill off PC gaming. Things aren’t looking too good recently. More reason to root for the PS3, I suppose.
I may have to protest and buy a Wii so I can play the new Star Wars light sabre game. As long as the drapes are pulled shut, that is. I don’t want the neighbors to see my version of the Star Wars Kid video.
32-
Sounds like you’d rather buy the cheap $20 game than the premium associated with buying it when it’s new. That’s cool and all, but don’t sit there and say every game is a ‘beta’ when it first comes out because that simply isn’t true. I had no troubles with Madden 08, Gears of War, Dead Rising, etc. etc.
Next time perhaps you’ll be a little more honest with your rhetoric.
35,
What about other programs you aint tried…
And MADDEN dont match up…Its the SAME game with NEW data…DUH..
And how many updates have you had to ADD.
YES, I would rather spend $50 on 2-3 games then 1…So waiting 4-6 months IS worth it…
Look at the iPhone, and waiting 2 months…DUH…
If you got money to spend FINE, IF you want money in the BANK, WAIT.
