DOVER, N.H. —
Billy Shaheen, the co-chairman of Hillary Clinton’s campaign in New Hampshire, raised the issue of Sen. Barack Obama’s past admissions of drug use in discussing the relative electability of the Democrats seeking the presidential nomination today. Among his concerns about Obama as the nominee, he said in an interview here today, is that his background is so relatively unknown and that the Republicans would do their best to unearth negative aspects of it, or concoct mistruths about it. Shaheen, a lawyer and influential state power broker, mentioned as an example Obama’s use of cocaine and marijuana as a young man, which Obama has been open about in his memoir and on the trail. “The Republicans are not going to give up without a fight … and one of the things they’re certainly going to jump on is his drug use,” said Shaheen, the husband of former N.H. governor Jeanne Shaheen, who is planning to run for the Senate next year. Billy Shaheen contrasted Obama’s openness about his past drug use — which Obama mentioned again at a recent campaign appearance in New Hampshire — with the approach taken by George W. Bush in 1999 and 2000, when he ruled out questions about his behavior when he was “young and irresponsible.”
I love the way this is being spun, that its the Republicans that will bring up the dirt on Obama. This is so obvious its pathetic.

Not surprising. Hillary is slipping in the polls, so its time to open the old Clinton bag of dirty tricks. Obama will soon realize he is a mere amateur trying to defeat a seasoned political tiger.
gqualgia,
I hope you’re wrong. Surely, the American people are going to come to eventually and start thinking for themselves. Maybe this is the year.
“Maybe this is the year.”
Haven’t we said that before? 🙂

Well realistically I don’t think that is going to happen anytime soon.
And stop calling me Shirley.
At least he inhaled.
#5 stole my joke 🙂
Just like Huckabee’s 1992 statements about AIDS is not hurting him in the polls among conservative voters, I’m not sure Obama’s past drug use, (which he fully disclosed in his book that has been out a year now) is going to hurt him among liberal voters.
People are forgiving if candidates come across as honest. If past drug use disqualifies one for the Presidency, how did GWB get in?
Honestly, who gives a shit if he smoked a little dope 20-some years ago? There’s a time and place for making mistakes, and it’s young adulthood. I respect a man who will stand up and say, “yeah, I did that, and I learned my lesson.” They gain much more of my respect than a man who denies a lesson learned (Billary).
Obama’s admission of past drug use was wise. Jesse Ventura did the same thing by admitting he smoked marijuana and had sex with a hooker in his book, and he came out of it without becoming the butt of a thousand “did not inhale” jokes. Let’s face it, everyone above the age of 25 knows who said, “I did not inhale,” and probably snickers every time they hear it.
What… me play dirty?
What’s wrong with inhaling?
That’s what they’ll attack with? I figured it would be the Muslim background or inexperience.
Gore went on MTV and was introduced with ‘he smoked the weed’, so I don’t see this attack working.
Maybe this is a way to hit back at known drug user Oprah’s endorsement.

Hah! look at all the religious fuck nuts out there.
Sen. Obama is an alright guy. At least he admits what he did. Besides who cares? He isn’t smoking it now.
Him saying he was “young and foolish” back then is not going to hurt him with the conservatives, either.
The other Democrats seem to think people want to vote for retards that never grew up.
isn’t that like the pot calling the kettle, uh, black?
Pedro – They do? Oh, you mean there’s a rumor the Republicans tried a “let’s you and him fight”? Sounds like the frantic damage control the Democrats pulled back when ObL tried to scare people into voting for Kerry.
ObL was dumb two ways. First thinking it would frighten people, and second thinking that Kerry would back off. As much as I despise Kerry, I really doubt he would back down. I think that if he got backed into a corner, he would lash out even more violently than Bush has.
It’d be “Here’s your Jihad, mofo!”
>>Most Republicans I know are praying Obama gets

Most Republicans you know are fuckheads, who believe that America would never elect a “nigger”. Trust me, we will. All we’re looking for is someone with honesty and integrity (and some itelligence), and Obama seems to fit the bill.
Many of those republicans will be voting in democrat primaries.
The problem with throwing dirt is makes the thrower look childish and usually the throwee is forgiven. Unless it happens to be extra marital sex and you are a Democrat. Republicans usually get away with sex problems.
Ah, Catshit, do you can name a bunch of Republicans who have not been booted and a bunch of Democrats who have?
Mustard,Obama might not be electable, but being black would be a minor point to most Republicans.
A bit of history: The Democratic Party supported slavery back before the Civil War. The Whigs destructed over the issue, and the founding purpose of the Republican Party was to fight slavery. Both parties continued their basic positions right up through the Civil Rights movement, when the Democrats switched from “kill the niggers because they are inferior” to “treat the poor coloureds like children/pets because they cannot help being inferior”.
The Left/”liberals”/Democrats continue to regard Negroes as “speciallll” due to their racial back ground. “Retards”, in other words. Sub humans.
So, Democrats have bought the black vote.
#17 – Are you including the Black Republicans? Or do they just don’t count because they are not black enough for you?
I’m toooo stoned to care anymore!
Good question at the NY Sun:
“Why hasn’t anyone asked Hillary about /her/ drug use?”
For what it’s worth:
Clinton’s campaign said it had nothing to do with his comments, and Shaheen said later he regretted them.
“I deeply regret the comments I made today and they were not authorized by the campaign in any way,” Bill Shaheen said in an e-mail released by the campaign.

#21, Phillep,
Ah, Catshit, do you can name a bunch of Republicans who have not been booted and a bunch of Democrats who have?
Let’s see, Gary Hart was the front runner until his “affair” became known. New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey, stepped down. Of course, Gary Condit couldn’t get elected dog catcher after his affair came to light.
Now we see, Newt Gingrich telling his wife, in the hospital where she had just had cancer surgery, he was dumping her for another woman. Gingrich went on to lead the charge against Clinton and win another election. Henry Hyde had an illegitimate son on the side who he denied the right of a father. Rudy Giuliani was screwing women in an apartment that was rented so 9/11 rescue workers could rest. G.W. Bush was accused of rape in 1999 only to have the accuser mysteriously die in a strange auto accident.
Need more examples?
Obama should be as open about his past as he can. If he is worried about Hillary’s attacks, what will he do when the Republican slime machine kicks in?
Sadly, Obama is simply not qualified to be President and we Democrats cannot afford to conduct a training program.
The new one admits mistakes in his youth and corrects them by ‘growing up and straightening out’… the current one made the same mistakes and got out of it by being ‘born again’.
I’ll take the one that grew up, thank you.
Filthy. Absolutely filthy. May this blow up in her hypocritical face.
I am sure Hillary has smoked POT at least once like just about everyone has…
On another note I know this is just wrong but President Huckabee does not just sit right. I can hear all the comics now this is just like waving a flag to a bull. I can’t stop thinking of Huckleberry hound…
How many Americans think Obama is a terroristic? Obama bin Laden?
Cheers
Let’s see… every single president from Washington on was a recreational drug user.
From alcohol to nicotine to pot to coke, its all part of the ‘normal’ development of most humans around the world.
What would be a shock is someone that did NOT do drugs recreationally. that would REALLY scare the average american more.
#30 BTW, never smoked anything other than fish and poultry.
Not all of us are dopamine addicts.

And what would be the major points? He’s not stupid enough? Not dishonest enough? Doesn’t have enough friends in high places at companies that can profit from the degradation of America? Isn’t adept enough at rigging elections?
Based on the number (estimated, as we will never know exactly) of people who voted for the Chimperor in Chief, those qualities seem to factor quite highly in the Republicans’ voting choices.
Catshit, how about the Republicans that walked?
(And, if you want to bring up mysterious deaths from a President before Clinton, that makes Clinton fair game.)
