I have to admit, the card itself is stunning. Click the pic to see it in full detail. |
Ars Technica:
Our testing (look for the full review tonight) indicates that ATI has achieved its goal. At 10.5″ long, the 3870X2 is fairly bulky, but its performance proves a solid match against NVIDIA’s products in the $400-$500 price range. The 3870X2 also includes ATI’s UVD technology for hardware video decoding and generally meets or exceeds the performance of two standard 3870s in SLI. All in all, it should be a solid value even at its MSRP of $449.

We are a sad society when this kind of stuff drives technology! Pitiful!
Speak for yourself Higghawker, if I’m paying half a grand for a GPU I want a little T&A along with it. Don’t fight your hormones man.
2x nv7800 gtx sli here
time to upgrade rerun
UNTIL:
they install a desktop overlay…Programmable section that is DISPLAY and the rest of the card is RAM.
Until they INSTALL all the drivers to DISPLAY and show movies ON THE CARD.
UNTIL the card is INDEPENDENT of the system.
PS…this is OLD TECH.
UNTIL it can LINk to a AUDIO card and SYNC the video for MOVIES, LIP SYNC…
OLD TECH…still..
NO…I DONT want a faster card that shows CRAP faster.
ALL you are getting is MORE resolution…
MORE movement of pixels…
ITS ALL OLD TECH, just a FASTER WAY TO DO IT.
(ASUS)…puts pr0n directly on the GPU!
Really, is that pr0n? Maybe in America maybe…
Cheers
I’m reminded of my old Mad magazine from the 70s that made fun of the Bionic man. After telling him that he’d be better and faster the nurse chimed in, “You know, faster isn’t always better.”
This is for the teenager with plexiglas and florescent lights decorating his PC.
It’s a great idea to play to that crowd with visuals on PC components to impress their friends. Very clever.

“impress their friends”
I notice you didn’t say girlfriends! 🙂
unless you’re that teen geek with a $500 video card, then I guess it’s 🙁
Waste of energy. They should put wattage and heat limits on these. I estimate we could save at least 5 billion kilowatt hours a year, or 1 megawatt reactor.
Dunno….
The girl’s kinda cute if you’re into Xena outfits and built-in flotation devices.
As Flaucer indicated, this may be as close to a real female as many of the users of the device will get anyway, but who cares?
Kinda strange to have it on the side of a video card, but more that $30 is a waste for business users anyway 🙂 .
Disregarding the blissninnes who’d take offense to the weapons, she’s fully dressed by any beach standard you’re likely to find in the Western world, too….

Stu.
Masturbation material for PC builders. Watch out for stains if you buy your computer with an ASUS card.
Seriously… this is quite innocent.
Nobody notices the phallic shape of the air cooler? I’d say it’s a very subtle message they’re playing. The picture by itself on a magazine would be nothing. On the card it sends you subliminal messages…
Either that or I need an urgent appointment with my shrink.

Where you raised in a Catholic School?
I live and was raised on a Catholic Country, but that’s beside the point. And just FYI, I’m not either in nor outside the closet, so to speak 😉
I just think that marketing uses a lot of hidden messages when designing a product. You’d be surprised…
