BBC NEWS | Africa | US bombs Islamist town in Somalia — This doesn’t seem to be getting much coverage.

The US has launched an attack against a “known al-Qaeda terrorist” in southern Somalia, the Pentagon says.

Three missiles hit Dhoble town early on Monday, reportedly killing four people and wounding 20. People are fleeing the town, fearing more strikes. Residents say planes could still be seen flying overhead on Monday morning. Islamist insurgents seized the town last week and reports said a leader, Hassan Turki, had been in the area.

Mr Turki is on the US list of “financers of terrorism”.

I’m not well informed on this situation “but” dropping bombs on people is a tough way to win their hearts and minds==especially if that is about all we are doing?

I only hope there was a real target worth all the collateral damage such bombing unavoidably causes. Also not clear from the article just how much public support/governmental support the Somalia people/government are giving the GOUSA in these efforts?

Reminds me that this is a good situation for a UN Anti-Terrorist Military Unit to be in charge rather than single country action. Course, if the UN actually had any power, the GOUSA might have to follow international norms of behavior too, and we can’t have that interferences in our activities now can we?===Might have kept us out of Iraq and a 3 Trillion Dollar deficit. Oh Woe!!!!!

  2. Higghawker says:

We so need new leadership!! Although I realize he won’t win, I am still 100% behind Ron Paul. Wouldn’t it be nice to know exactly what we we’re going to get?

  3. MrBloedumpSpladderschitt says:

#1 The UN shouldn’t be in charge of anything. In fact it should be disbanded.

  4. bobbo says:

#4–Mr Blow==who died and elected you the Pope?

Less pontification and more explanation. The only reason you don’t support a strong effective UN is because you don’t want Bush in Jail==or do you have anything actual opinion?

  5. Jägermeister says:

#3 – Let me guess… You’ve got a bunch of weapons at home, right?! 😉

  6. Steve-O says:

#4 bobbo – I agree with #3. Screw the UN and their entire corrupt organization. If you want Bush in jail then put him in line behind all the low life scum in the UN. You can start with Kofi (sp?) and his wonderful performance and corruption during the Iraqi oil for UN officials er, I mean oil for food program.

  7. Bob says:

#4, if you are waiting for the UN to put the President in jail, I am afraid you have a very long wait ahead of you. Not only that if they did even try it, I think the US would collectively give the UN the big middle finger and pull out funding out, demolish the UN building (though I am sure we would wait until everyone leaves).

Allot of people may not like Bush, but an attempt to arrest him by a foreign organization like the UN won’t go over with the American people. I feel in many ways about Bill Clinton what you feel about Bush, but I would not support the UN coming in as somehow above US law in the US, and arresting a sitting or former president on trumped up charges for political expediency.

Besides, why don’t you just wait 2 more years, Bush will be gone no matter who wins the election. Or are you one of those crazy conspirators who think Bush will try to stay in after his maximum 8 years?

  8. Steve-O says:

#7 Bob – demolish the UN building (though I am sure we would wait until everyone leaves).

    Why wait?

  9. Sean O'Hara says:

just how much public support/governmental support the Somalia people/government are giving the GOUSA

You seem to be laboring under the illusion that Somalia has a government. It doesn’t.

“The Americans love Pepsi-Cola, we love death,” explained Afghani al Qaeda operative Maulana Inyadullah. Sheik Feiz Mohammed, leader of the Global Islamic Youth Center in Sydney, Australia, preached: “We want to have children and offer them as soldiers defending Islam. Teach them this: There is nothing more beloved to me than wanting to die as a mujahid.” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a speech: “It is the zenith of honor for a man, a young person, boy or girl, to be prepared to sacrifice his life in order to serve the interests of his nation and his religion.”…

As more women and children are recruited by their mothers and religious leaders to become suicide bombers, more women and children will be shot at — some mistakenly. That is part of the grand plan of our enemies. They want us to kill their civilians, who they also consider martyrs, because when we accidentally kill a civilian, they win in the court of public opinion.

  11. MikeN says:

It’s not clear that Ron Paul is against this action. He is not a pacifist.

This action is also in line with what Barack Obama has said about Pakistan. He has also said he would invade Iraq to fight Al-Qaeda.
