| Name calling is so boring. So it’s nice to see good, old fashioned, in your face-type campaign tomfoolery like in the old days. I wonder if the “nuclear option” is a dirty trick? | ![]() |
Clinton, Nixon; Nixon, Clinton
[D]ays ahead of the North Carolina primary comes a story of real sleaze—not Jeremiah Wright-style buffoonery, but Nixon-style illegality designed to dupe and disenfranchise voters—that should surprise precisely nobody who has been following and covering this campaign. A group called Women’s Voices Women’s Vote (WVWV), which claims to have been “created to activate unmarried Americans in their government and in our democracy” has been placing robocalls to voters across North Carolina that seem designed to fool them into thinking they have not yet registered to vote. Many of the voters who received those calls are black. Voters in 11 states have complained about similarly deceptive calls and mailings that have been traced back to WVWV this primary season.
Guess which Democratic candidate WVWV’s founder and president, Page Gardner, has donated $6,700 to (hint: it’s not Barack Obama). Guess whose election campaign Joe Goode, WVWV’s executive director, worked for (hint: it was in 1992, and it was a winning campaign). Guess whose chief of staff sits on WVWV’s board of directors (hint: it was the president who served between two Bushes). And guess whose campaign manager was a member of WVWV’s leadership team (hint: it’s Hillary Clinton).

A problem Hillary has is that any sleezy story is immediately believed about her.
The story doesn’t have to be true. Just an allegation is good enough.
In reading this article, I’m inclined to believe it without proof.
That’s her main problem.
If she somehow managed to become the Democratic nominee, all McCain would need to guarantee a win would be an October surprise, election-eve disgusting allegation.
Character matters; she has none.
#1==quite right. This “stuff” is gotten away with because no one is ever punished. It is a crime to interfere with the voting rights of people. I can see Obama not wanting to get in the dirt, but why doesn’t the ACLU or even more relevantly, the local NAACP?
Stupid to fight for the right to vote, get the right to vote, and then get cheated out of actually voting, and let it be repeated year after year.
btw, Unk…. “sleazy” is spelled “sleazy”, not “sleezy”.
As to the subject matter, I’d like to see some proof. I wouldn’t put this kind of monkey business past Hill, but where’s the beef? Show me the money!
I believe it.
My gawd….
We have to keep those Clintons out of the White House. They might do what they did before and make the country a prosperous place to proudly live in.
Any sleaze is OK..
It’s interesting that the “progressive” left worked tirelessly on behalf of the Clinton’s for 8 years. Remember MoveOn.org? The Clinton’s aren’t sleazy, “they are victims of the vast right-wing conspiracy.”
In 3 months this has all changed. Now the “progressive” left hates the Clinton’s with all of the frothing self-righteous passion they can muster.
I wouldn’t put anything pass Hillary.

….do what they did before and make the country a prosperous place to proudly live in.
Bring back the good old days.
Mortgages for everybody. Run away housing market driving prices up. Voodoo economics pushing anyone with a PC and an internet connection to start a company, get $10 million in investments, buy trucks full of equipment and then file Chapter 7.
Boy, those were the days!
>>I wouldn’t put anything pass Hillary.
I wouldn’t put anything past her opponents (except for Obama). Could well be the latest Swift Boating by the latter-day Swift Boat Liars of 2008. That kind of swine has no morals at all.
You just never know.
If you need to fight fire with fire, so be it.
We can all thank the Republicans for creating the era of dirty politics and Karl Rove for perfecting the art.
BTW, where is that shit ball?
>>Voodoo economics
Uh. That’s a Republican thing.
For 2008, we can only hope that the Democratic president is able to “do what they did before and make the country a prosperous place to proudly live in.”
November 2008…..BRING IT ON!!!
>>Mister Mustard
I’m still wondering if Obama is just waving shinny objects in the faces of the American public. Politicians say what will get them elected. Also, I’m not sure he has enough experience to be president but he is the best of the worst even if he is lying.
Wow, many are minorities? That must be vote suppression.
Maybe, they were actually engaged in what they say they are doing, and their list isn’t 100% correct?
Is it possible, maybe?
The Clinton’s are the poster children for sleazy, scumbag, career politicians who will stop at nothing, use every dirty, questionable or illegal tactic to get into or stay in office. The Clinton’s are as bad or worse then any Republican that most here seem to despise.
I agree with # 1 on every point. Character is extremely important. That’s why everyone should vote for Ralph Nader.
#15: Who?
