Read Keith Olbermann’s take:

There **is** no good time to recall this.

But certainly to invoke it, two weeks before the exact 40th anniversary of the assassination, is an insensitive and heartless thing.

And certainly to invoke it, three days **after** the awful diagnosis, and heart-breaking prognosis, for Senator **Ted** Kennedy, is just as insensitive, and just as heartless.

And both actions, open a door wide into the soul of somebody who seeks the highest office in this country, and through that door shows something not merely troubling, but frightening.

And politically inexplicable.
[…]
[A] senator — a politician — a **person** — who can let hang in mid-air the prospect that she might just be sticking around in part, just in case the other guy gets shot — has no business being, and no capacity **to** be, the President of the United States.

But she’s not the only knuckleheaded candidate. Each has made ludicrously stupid and/or inappropriate remarks that are like shooting themselves in the foot. Do we have to worry what they might say to a dictator that might start a war? Bush at least can get away with it because, well, he’s Bush, but these guys should know better. Cripes!

  1. QB says:

She wants the VP spot now. Hence the “slip of the tongue”.

  2. Winston Smith says:

What Hillary said was very clear and understandable by everyone who heard it: that she is staying in the race because someone might shoot Obama.

It can have no other meaning. It is a distasteful remark, just like her and Bill Clinton’s other racist remarks.

  3. Mr. Gawd Almighty says:

Bullshit. This is must ado about nothing. The only ones making a deal about this don’t like Clinton to begin with.

No, I wouldn’t vote for her regardless of what happens. But I won’t pillory her for something like this. Geeze, lets save the fight for something that means something.

  4. MikeN says:

If Obama picks Hillary as vp, that takes courage. Given his church and pastor, surely Obama knows the rumors that Ron Brown was murdered.

  5. Ah_Yea says:

Maybe Obama will follow that very wise adage: “Hold your friends close and your enemies closer”.

    Obama/Hillary in 08!

  6. Shin says:

Surely MikeN knows the rumors that no one listens to him since his lobotomy? (Yes MikeN, all decisions should be based upon rumor and innuendo..it’s the conservative way. I wonder who it was who started that rumor?)

Sorry, had to get some dig in, especially after finding myself agreeing with his earlier comment. Why is he the only one here, surrounded by occasionally semi-sane respondents, to note there there is no reason to stay in the race in case of an opponents death? If she went away, who would they choose? Just pick a name out of a hat? If we switch this around, and McCain snuffs it, should the Rep’s just say “Oh, we can’t field a candidate, there is no one left in the race, shit, I guess you win?”. She would be the nominee then whether or not she was still running against him. Keith is entitled to his opinion, but I need not give it any more weight than I would give to idiot Limbaugh’s.

  7. MikeN says:

Look, at the time the black media was running with the story, with even Jesse Jackson chiming in. If his pastor is saying the US created aids to kill blacks, then I’d say it’s reasonable to think Obama has heard it. To then pick her as VP with that in the back of your mind, takes a great deal of courage.

  8. Ah_Yea says:

    Courage!? Death wish!!

  9. Ah_Yea says:

And just for a bit of clarification, #21 Mister Mustard, I didn’t say that the Dems as a whole are “Whacked-Out Far-Left Radicals”, I said the Dems are being led by a bunch of “Whacked-Out Far-Left Radicals”.

As I have said before, there are plenty of terrific people in the Democratic party, but for some reason they are not the one’s running the show.

Probably could say the same for the Republicans as well…

I just decided to buy an Island and create the Republic of Ah_Yea.

I may not always agree with the leader, but at least I know where he stands… 😀

  10. MikeN says:

It’s only a death wish if the story’s true. Hearing about it and going forward makes it courage.

  11. hhopper says:

Everyone should vote for any candidate but a Democrat or Republican. Send a message to the idiots.

  12. Binxter says:

All of this plotted assassination talk regarding Hillary and Huckabee … I think some of you have been watching too much 24.
