NEW YORK, July 2 (UPI) — A New York Times (NYSE:NYT) editor Wednesday said a Fox News Channel graphic in which images of two Times reporters were altered was “beneath comment.” Fox aired photographs of Times reporter Jacques Steinberg and television editor Steven Reddicliffe on its morning show, “Fox & Friends,” in a segment firing back at a June 28 Times report that referred to “ominous trends” for Fox News’s ratings. The liberal Web site Media Matters posted the photos of Steinberg and Reddicliffe, which appeared to have been manipulated to yellow their teeth, add dark bags under their eyes and distort other facial features.
The photos appeared to have been altered using graphics tools, Editor & Publisher magazine said Wednesday. As the photos aired, “Fox & Friends” personalities Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade chatted about the Times article and called it a “hit piece” on Fox News. They also derided Reddicliffe’s tenure as editor of TV Guide — owned by Fox News’s parent company, News Corp. (NYSE:NWS)
Neither Steinberg nor Reddicliffe was available for comment Wednesday, E&P said. Times Culture Editor Sam Sifton called the Fox graphic “disgusting.” “This was a hit piece by Fox News,” he said. “It is beneath comment.” Neither Fox News nor News Corp. had commented by Wednesday afternoon, E&P said.
It would be kind of funny if it wasn’t so badly botched.

Sue fox news.
Why is it that the idiots who try this shit are never any good?
Fox News is getting like Scientologists. When they have an enemy its “fair game” and anything goes. Then they deny everything and do it more.
The viewers of Fox News fall right in line and echo whatever they are told.
If they’re willing to embellish shit like this you gotta wonder what liberties they’re willing to take with real news. Looks like all the corporate media nightmare scenarios are coming true.
I didn’t see the story and neither, I’ll bet, did anyone commenting on it here. Since “Fox & Friends” is the morning infotainment show it might well have been a joke.
And for the record, I didn’t say it was a good joke.
Self appointed genius, the good ones don’t get caught.
[Duplicate comment deleted. – ed.]
The Fox & Friends show is live and unscripted and by its extemporaneous nature can be considered an editorial. Seems like no one has a sense of humor any more.
The NYT’s is complaining about s/o doing a hit piece? LOL.
Fox “News”? Does anyone still call it that? Fox is news in the same way as Art Bell is science. Fox News is a joke. Only dumb rednecks pay any attention to that stupid network. It’s not real news, just entertainment. If you want ‘real’ news you go to NPR, Christian Science Monitor, BBC, Wall Street Journal, Scientific American, etc. If you listen to Fox News for ‘news’ you likely think the world was magically created overnight and that should be taught in science classes.
Oh. It was a joke, right? That’s the line huh? The apologists have little to work with here.
If CNN did this the Fox News crowd would be all over it. Very loudly.
I get all my network news from the the Daily Show. It is biased AND funny. Fox News is biased AND not funny except in a train wreck kind of way.
Can’t wait to see what Keith Olbermann does to Bill O’Reilly now.
What do you expect from GOP TV?
FOX is the republican brainwashing channel for the masses – taking distortion and lies to a new level.
Didn’t Time Mag do the same thing with OJ Simpson?
Yea Ron Time did make OJ look darker. And they where rightfully called out for it.
Here it seems that if you are a republican than nothing Fox does is bad. Somehow people are willing to defend this behavior.
I don’t think the logic to my replies is at all pathetic. It’s dead on, thus it’s being attacked Fox News style.
Now, if “Fox Noise” would use the same techniques on a picture of President Bush, THAT would be newsworthy.
This is more like THE ONION than a real news channel.
OH wait! Is “Fox Noise” a REAL NEWS CHANNEL????
OH well, back to THE ONION for some real news!
>>The NYT’s is complaining about s/o doing
>>a hit piece? LOL.
Link to a hit piece by the NYT. Or STFU.
TIA.
I can’t say I am surprised. Fox has never been fair or balanced. I would say name and shame is a good why to combat this, but I don’t think they have any shame.
#21 Get your own screen name.
About those Pictures. When you photoshop someone, aren’t you supposed to make them look better, and not like zombie’s out to eat brains?
#21, #22 – Patrick & Paddy-O (or vice versa)
Uh-oh. The bogifying faux poster strikes again. Time for password registration here, maybe?
#22 It’s my name to. The way I see it I have as much claim to it as anyone else named Patrick.
Sorry, you’ll just have to learn to deal or convince them to start the suggested name registration.
I use a nick here at DU. I could use my given name though.
Either try a unique nickname or expect something like this to happen.
(effen cry wing nut babies)
Mister Mustard, #22 is Paddy-O, Maybe, I should use Paddy-O…
I can’t wait to see them Photoshop bobbo and Mustard.
I wonder what they’ll look like…..?
It would be kind of funny if not for the fact that some think Fox is news and not propaganda.
#19 has it right: How sadly our discourse continues to slide when the most honest news comes from The Onion, and The Daily Show (and dvorak.org/blog, take a drink).
Do we have a free press? No, but it was bought at a reasonable price.
#2–QB==why the interest in “personalities” and other irrelevant ad hominem issues?
When I was younger, I looked alot like Perry Mason (Raymond Burr) and Lurch from Adam’s Family. If you can see the similarity between those two folks, then the caricature will be made.
In later years, I think I have come to look like Omar Shariff–after his glory days as he took to the bottle.
I made this point in an email to Julie Christie but she hasn’t found the time to answer me as yet. Seems she doesn’t like bridge either.
Mmmmmmm. Julie Christie in Dr Zhivago. I can taste the vodka and caviar now.
Yea–Geraldine Chaplin was no dog either. I could spend all winter holed away with either one of them, and learn to like vodka and cavier?
BTW–just looking into home distillery for booze and car fuel and came across the notion that “true” vodka is nothing but ethanol and water. Anything else is flavored. ie–vodka is just alcohol. Makes the pricing structure of commercial brands kinda suspect?==or just like bottled water that vodka mostly is? Its like water, with a difference.
