The McDonough NCC Crusaders have never seen a kicker like this: 14 years old and making 50 yard field goals….

The star kicker is a girl: freshman Kacy Stuart: “I was playing kickball in 8th grade and my P.E. teacher saw me kick. He thought I had potential, so I played on his football team.”

This year, Kacy moved. She is now playing football at the New Creation Center (NCC). It’s a private Christian school.

“She’s a good kicker. She has a lot of skill, and we’re just glad she’s on the team,” school administrator Judy Foster said.

NCC belongs to the Georgia Football League. The group oversees athletic programs for private Christian schools and home school programs. Earlier this month, the executive board called the NCC coach and said Kacy was not allowed to play because she’s a girl.

“I thought this would never happen,” Kacy said, “because there’s nothing in the rulebook that says I can’t play.”

You thought rules and fairness had anything to do with this? You thought that if you were the best qualified, you would be allowed to play? Bad girl, bad girl.

Thanks, K B

Gotta love the way that backward Christian thinking seems to trickle down to everything.

  2. Personality says:

I would say it is the rednecks in Georgia who said “no” to her. Not the thumping christians.

  3. *required beaurocracy says:

    She’s a girl. She’s not equal.

  4. Dallas says:

I was intrigued by the article and what rational circumstances may have ensued.

THEN, I saw it was a Christian school and stopped reading further.

  5. thinker says:

The question to pose would be, is this different than they kid kicked off of the little league team because he was too good of a pitcher.

  6. bobbo says:

#5–thinker==yes, its different. One kid was kicked off for being too good, the other for being a girl. See the difference?

  7. JimD says:

Well, obviously, they are AFRAID OF THE GIRL THAT CAN KICK 50 YARD FIELD GOALS !!! Only reason !!!

  8. The Pirate says:

Lawsuit, game over, you go girl.

  9. johns says:

And the kicker, she won’t be getting an education either.

  10. Personality says:

#9 No one in the south gets an education. Ever.

  11. OvenMaster says:

This girl ought to talk to that Little Leaguer in New Haven who got kicked off his team because he was too good.

At the very least, I expect a sex discrimination lawsuit, and soon. Hell, when I was in high school 30 years ago, there was a girl on the boys’ varsity basketball team, and no one gave a damn about gender when we won the state semi-finals three years in a row. Then again, I don’t live in the South.

  12. Angus says:

I’ve always thought it was odd to pidgeonhole women into the kicking thing. If anything, I think they could be very, very competitive as Wide Receivers and Defensive Backs, where it’s less about size. Those positions are about quickness, skill, and intelligence, on which women are equals.

  13. Sea Lawyer says:

#11, lawsuit for what? not letting a girl be on a team at a private school for a sport designated for boys? are the boys going to start suing because they can’t be on the school’s softball team too?

  14. MikeN says:

Good for them. I don’t think boys should be trained to beat up on women. If she’s a good kicker, let her play soccer.

  15. thinker says:

    #6 Bobbo

Yes, though perhaps there is not as much difference as it would seem. The girl was good, an asset to the team, as they said. I wonder if someone used the ‘no girls’ as a red herring to get rid of some competition under the guise of something else.

  16. Sea Lawyer says:

    #15, not unlikely

  17. OvenMaster says:

#13: In my state, if a private school hopes to grant high school diplomas recognized by society, universities, colleges, and employers upon graduation of their students, and be recognized by the state as an actual accredited high school, then they are obliged to abide by certain minimum state-mandated norms and standards. That includes outlawing sex discrimination in sports.

Less-advanced states may not have that law in force.

  18. Jim says:

#7, that’s exactly why. after all, would you want to lose a game because of a last-second 55 yarder? you’s actually have to play defense against them a lot tougher than normal.

  19. Benji says:

Thankfully, she’s not a nominee for VP of the United States of America. Could you imagine the sexist discrimination she’d face for that?

  20. jsjdjn says:

    “Title IV!”

  21. busdriver320 says:

Let the best qualified play then.

Make all sports co-ed and let the best athletes in the school play on them. That really would be the fairest way.

  22. Angel H. Wong says:

What where you expecting? She should have married a 40yo man and start spitting babies through her hole by now, that’s the Christian way.

  23. GregAllen says:

    Movie recommendation:

    “The Longshots”

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1091751/

It’s about a girl on a Pop Warner football team.

It start the silly-named “Ice T” but is one of those simple, well-done “family” films.

  24. gmknobl says:

    Let’s see…

It’s in Georgia (the deep south).

It’s in a (faux) Christian school.

No, it’s not prejudice, it’s the word of God!

No one would have ever guessed this!

We really should put walls around certain areas of the country and let them rot away. Well, not really, but it would be fun giving it a shot.

  25. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

Angus…I’m currently coaching a 10-11 year old football team. Girls have played before, and they’re welcome. Some of them have done well, some not. The ones big enough to take a hit can’t run, and the ones who can run can’t take a hit. That’s anecdotal, but in my experience this is the age where strength differences between the sexes become evident, and in this game that’s a huge factor. Kicking, not so much. The next level up is jr high, and some of the boys are near six feet tall, and the girls are starting to become women. It’s not a good mix.

  26. MikeN says:

Sometimes the kicker has to do more than just kick, and it becomes a tackle sport again.

  27. jobs says:

I know facts mean nothing to the regulars here but she plays for a Christian school that fully supports her playing on the team. But don’t let truth get in the way spreading hate.
