A JetBlue flight from Boston, Massachusetts, to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was diverted Saturday when a fight broke out after someone was smoking in the bathroom, federal officials said.

One passenger aboard JetBlue Flight 455 was taken into custody at Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina after the plane landed about 5:45 p.m.

A federal Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman said one person was injured in the face by what may have been a punch. She said the fight involved three people who are thought to be related.

According to the airline, there were 88 people and four crew members aboard the jet. The flight had been scheduled to leave Boston at 1 p.m. but did not take off until 3:11 p.m., spokeswoman Alison Eshelman said.

Eyewitnesses said the scuffle was between two brothers, one of whom was angry that his brother had smoked on a plane.

Something tells me drinking was involved here. Just a hunch.

There seems to be lots of fight going on the planes recently. In one flight, two families started a fight in mid flight with women pulling each others hairs and such. The flight had to land in turkey, the trouble makers were charged and sent back to their respective countries.

What ever happened to fasten your seat belts and dont move?

    The Palins fly Jet Blue?

They should bring back smoking on planes.

    This would never had happened.

In fact somking on planes meant the air HAD to be exchanged often in the cabin. Thereby making it healthier.

The air now is not exchanged hardly at all. Because of this we have higher levels of CO2 and more bacteria and viruses.

This leads to more light headedness, air sickness, illness and as we see with the instances of chaos, more crankiness by passengers.

There should be no smoking AND no drinking on planes. Confining people in small places and then serving them alcohol is a recipe for disasters such as this. However, the almighty dollar will never allow profitable alcohol sales to go away.

  5. Helzerman says:

#5 Brian – I completely agree on not having drinking on planes. I’ve seen plenty of bad behavior from in-flight drunks including fist-fights, lewd behavior, and spilled red wine. In one particularly bad incident a drunk was pulled from the flight by Cuban police and taken to jail (bet that was fun).

Can you please substantiate this claim? Why would they not exchange the air any more? They still need to pump air into the cabin to maintain pressure, and to keep the oxygen levels normal.

    I ain’t buying it.

Please, take it easy with the stereotypes. Perhaps “Jerks on a Plane” would work as well for your lame play on words without maligning people from rural areas.

  10. Ah_Yea says:

Let’s do everyone a favor and add these clowns to the “no fly list”.

If you can’t behave on a flight, then you shouldn’t be allowed to fly.

Love the hat. TSA on the job!!!

I endorse an open door policy.

    Lower the altitude.

    Open the door.

    And say Caio.

  13. Glenn E. says:

Hey, this is great! The next time one of these airlines strands you on the tarmac during a snow storm, and won’t return to the ramps. Punch somebody! Then they’ll have to “return” to the airport. Because technically, they’ve left it when they’re just sitting up there run the damn engines. So wait a couple hours. Take a vote among the passengers, who will take the rap. And that one will punch out the biggest looking dude. And everyone gets to go to a decent bathroom and coffee shop, after the airline quits playing hostage. I doubt the airline will press charges, because they won’t want any more publicity than they’re already getting for causing the problem. And they desperately want to avoid anymore talk about a passenger bill or rights. So come winter, you may have to organize a brawl on your next flight to wherever.
