Death sentences in China tainted milk case – CNN.com — We should take a lead from China as we sort out the tainted peanut butter, the financial crises, and Bernie Madoff. No?

A Chinese court sentenced Tian Wenhua, former board chairwoman and general manager of the Chinese dairy company Sanlu Group, to life in prison for her role in a tainted milk scandal that killed at least six infants and sickened nearly 300,000 others. Police surround a court building in northern China in late December during the trial.

Three people were sentenced to death and two others to life in prison for their roles, while three others received prison terms of five to 15 years each. Many of those sentenced were middlemen who sold melamine to milking stations that added the chemical to the milk.

    36,

Simple ones. Ones that shouldn’t make profit, but should allow the populace to spend their money on things companies like to make.

Energy – high risk. For profit companies don’t like to start these. Government CAN. Cheap, regulated energy protects against companies that sell weather i.e. Enron
Health Care – high risk. For profit companies cannot provide health care at profit. It’s against the grain
Transportation – high risk. Why build a high speed rail service to unpopulated areas? Well, when you DO build a high-speed rail service to unpopulated area, they all of a sudden become populated.

Business does not like risk. Government can handle risk since they have a tax base to use it against. Take a loss of those services. They are essential for the populace, and eliminating their costs allows the populace to spend on things companies like to make… doodads, knick-knacks, widgets and other low-risk high reward stuff.

Actually, companies love this area. The only reason we’re still using fossil fuel in the US to make electricity is because of gov’t road blocks.

    Pretty funny, isn’t it?

  5. Named says:

    38,

Companies love it when they’re underwritten by the government. Why would a company build a power plant from scatch? They would have to forecast for 20 years to make a profit at a minimum. If you’re talking about oil, well, then its a geopolitical game. Most of the major players are or were government entities that became “private” after the hard work was done.

Umm, most of the actual data in the world isn’t in the form of a web page.

Go talk to some CEOs of energy companies. Or maybe a couple Heads of State.

Oops, I forgot, those types don’t often appear before your 3rd grade class…

Well surely you could find some actual press covering of specific projects hitting Government roadblocks. By the tone of your claim, you made it sound like this is a very common occurance.

Hey you claimed it and here I thought you don’t make up bullshit. I guess that makes me wrong.

Unlike you, these types of execs aren’t stupid enough to start something and then run into already known road blocks. While you might try to drive straight from Miami to Cuba in a car, intelligent people know that there is water between the two points.

Get it? No, probably not. Which is why you never finished the 4th grade…

So they aren’t being stopped by government roadblocks then. So you did lie.
