  1. Jimbo says:

Too big to fail! Give it a bailout!

  2. Windows 7 needs no second Beta because it’s been in development for 15 years!

  3. Buzz says:

No, but this guy Dvorak is getting fairly large.

  4. sargasso says:

Yahoo gets a new CEO then Google gets mired in bad PR. No coincidence at all.

  5. Thomas says:

IMO, “too big” is measure in the economic impact if the company collapses. Google does not yet seem too big to fail in this regard, unlike Microsoft.

  6. Randall Lind says:

I bet someone will sue Google thank for tech reporters. All the tech sites are blowing this Google mistake way out of whack.

40 mins is nothing to get bent out of shape over.

  7. HMeyers says:

People think of Google as the best because they:

    1. List wikipedia results at the top of every search (main feature of search engine)

    2. Show a map if the search contains a business name, give an imdb.com link if the search is a movie title.

    3. Have a relevant paid link search result at the top and 3 more to the right of the page

Then we label this common sense behavior as genius. “Praise be onto them!”

I hate to say this but Google only provides an average search engine experience, but they look so good compared to the “two other guys”.

Google is more a story of how the public always wants to coronate some product or service as the pinacle of innovation.

  8. GregA says:

    #8,

For what its worth, I have found google to be utterly contaminated with various blogs. I can get general search results, but if I am looking for something specific, and I don’t know the google search key, I use other search engines now.

For example, if you want to solve a specific problem on windows, no matter what your search you get two results… Paid tech support sights, or bloggers complaining about windows. I never find good answers there anymore.

Basically, google is facing the same problem that altavista did back in the day, it is being hacked. Which is why I quit using that search engine.

That said, if you are a blogger, google is your friend. But if you are trying to do research, look elsewhere. I don’t see a solution other than google segregating the most prominent blogs ie gawker, technorati, and engadget. It seems to have the same problem with politics.

Maybe it is just that a single index can’t be all things to all people…

  9. Andy Haugh says:

Well, there’s no doubt that the Internet is super-saturated in garbage, and finding what you want can be tough sometimes.

Google does a decent job, but the world sure would be a lot more interesting if Microsoft and Yahoo weren’t so inept.

I don’t think Google is too big, but they’re getting there.
