Here’s a fun example of astroturfing in its purest form: A woman attending a town hall event for Rep. Steve Kagen (D-WI), and–while loudly raising objections to the Democrats’ health care reform proposal–insisting she’s just a regular concerned citizen. Except, she’s actually a GOP official.

Heather Blish was vice-chairman of the Kewaunee County GOP until 2008. She actually worked for Kagen’s opponent, and, according to her own resume, is affiliated with the Republican National Committee.

I’m shocked. Will the Republicans disavow Heather Blish as a liar?

Or slap her wrist for getting caught?

#56 I see you got the left memo; pick out any statement, no mater what the point of it is and accuse the writer of being an idiot. Oh and say things so outrageous that you get people to look away from you. Congratulations in saying nothing and contributing nothing in a mere three sentences.

Obama and the left are presenting the issue as if it is changing healthcare from a privelege into a right. This is the change Obama says he’s presenting. So, all the lefts comments keep to that story.

The problem is that it’s impossible for a government to build a program that is a ‘right’. This is because a right implies choice. It’s my right to choose whether I want it or not. but the government builds programs that force people to comply. After all, it won’t work very well without mass compliance.

So, you all just go on fighting for your ‘right’ to healthcare if you want. You’re actually going to get something else.

BTW, anyone preaching revolution also doesn’t know what they’re saying. If you think about it you really want revival.

Where were the republicans when we needed healthcare reform in the 1990’s? Oh yeah, doing the same thing they are doing now….working hard to torpedo any meaningful change in an unsustainable system. Due to their wonderful efforts we are even worse off. My health care premiums have doubled, my copays have increased, my coverage has been reduced, and my deductibles have doubled.

    Thanks GOP!

Healthcare is power grab by the Federal Government.

Healthcare should be a state institution, if the individual state desires it, not a Federal one.

This country is already so far in debt it isn’t funny anymore. $50T is not going to solve the problem of incompetence. The Federal Government can’t tie its own shoe laces without a committee of nine and $5,000,000 of other people’s money.

No, current heathcare is a MONEY GRAB by corporations that makes thousands of honest Americans die poor and sick.

And you conservatives GROOVE on it.

  7. Greg Allen says:

I just watched the video — what a bunch of liars and frauds these conservatives are!

If a local Fox news reporter can out them, they’re pretty darn stupid, too.

“The Christian Church takes care of the sick…”

    filler…
    filler…
    money shot:

    “death to the statists.”

In other words, if you’re sick then rich Christians will dispense health care from our tax free coffers, unless you disagree with us, in which case we’ll kill you. What can possibly go wrong?

Aligning yourself with fundamentalist religious racists? Nicely done!

  10. qb says:

One of your basic arguments is “I’m Christian, therefore I have the moral high ground”. But when push comes to shove you can use the basest tactics of those you loath because “you’re Christian, and you have the moral high ground”.

So your Christianity boils down to do as I say, not as I do. That’s pretty sad.

    Alphie,

Where were all the Christians helping out my neighbor when she lost her job after her heart attack? Sure, they brought her a lot of pies and cakes, and some cream filled donuts. But did any of them put in her stent? Did any of them pay her mortgage? I paid for her electric bill once just before they cut it off.

Did I mention her husband built their church and was their first pastor before he died 15 years earlier. She continued to attend that church every Sunday unless she was too ill or hospitalized.

I don’t think the surgeon has ever been paid. He’s a Muslim by the way. The Hospital is owned by a branch of the Catholic church and they sued to get their money.

They’re not ObamaBots! They’re asking real questions! Quick, discredit them in any way possible! Do a “Joe the Plumber”! Don’t listen to what they say, just bury them in dirt!

Democratic Party Democracy at it’s best.”

What about the 30 people bussed in from out of state to yell, chant slogans, rant, jump up and down, stamp their feet and keep anything from being discussed?

What about the same thing happening to hundreds of Town Hall Meetings and other events hosted by Democratic representatives all across the country, all paid for by Koch Industries (the largest privately owned oil company in the country)?

Republican Party Democracy at its best.

    – – – – –

“None of this would have happened if they stayed in session and just passed the bill on party lines.”

I think President Obama seriously, seriously wants to get at least a few Republicans to support the bill (they have already included hundreds of ideas and amendments from the GOP side) so that when the next Republican president is elected he or she won’t be able to just repeal it all the first week. With the slightest hint of actual bi-partisanship, that will be much more difficult.

    – – – – –

“AN ORDER from the Government to end a life!”

Yeah, and I heard that according to the Lewin Group, they plan to infect us all with the Good Times Virus when we go in for our mandatory swine flu shots! OMG! Run!

Well, one thing for sure, this will be a tough and ugly fight. Look on the bright side, this means that democracy is alive and well in the USA.

#98 Great, we’ll have a summer of right wing commentators claiming “ad hominem” attacks in one breath and slinging mud in the next. This is only slightly more nauseating than left wing commentators complaining about fairness and equal treatment.

Yes, let’s talk about fairness and equal treatment. In 2004, moveon.org had a contest: send in your best youtube-type video criticizing George Bush. They put most of them up on their website, if I recall. One of the anonymous contestants compared Bush to Hitler in his video. GASP! The Republicans and the mainstream media had a collective sh*t fit. Tsk-tsks and tut-tuts abounded, criticizing moveon.org specifically and the Democratic party in general, even though the contestant had no discernable connections to either.

    Fast forward to 2009.

Rush Limbaugh, the most powerful Republican in the country, with a faithful audience of millions, compares Obama and Pelosi to Nazi leaders on his incredibly popular radio show.

The result? Crickets. Nary a peep from the same commentators who crucified the anonymous videographer for daring to compare Bush to Hitler.

Can you say unfair and unequal? I knew you could.

Just a sample: New York Times, January 6, 2004

Critics Attack Efforts to Link Bush and Hitler

Two of more than 1,500 submissions have outraged Republicans and leading Jewish groups for comparing Mr. Bush, in profile and policy, to Hitler.

This is the worst and most vile form of political hate speech,” Ed Gillespie, chairman of the Republican National Committee, said in one of several statements he issued. He urged the nine Democrats running for president to repudiate the advertisements. . . .

Mr. Gillespie and Jewish groups like the Anti-Defamation League and the Simon Wiesenthal Center criticized MoveOn.org for posting advertisements that showed Hitler morphing into Mr. Bush. One asserted, “What were war crimes in 1945 is foreign policy in 2003.”

“Their lack of discretion cheapens the level of political discourse in America.” said Abraham H. Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League.

You’d think the “liberal” New York Times could muster the same outrage when the most powerful Republican in America compares Obama to a Nazi. But you’d be wrong.

More quotes and the Limbaugh clip are here. Not much commentary, just the media types in their own words:

    Liberal media, my ass.
