The mother of a Kentucky high school football player is furious over the Christian baptism of her son during what he said was supposed to be a school outing to eat a steak dinner and see a “motivational speaker.”
Instead, Breckinridge County High School football coach Scott Mooney took 20 of his players on a trip to a Baptist revival, where eight or nine of the students underwent the Christian ritual of baptism, according to published reports.
Michelle Ammons, mother of 16-year-old Robert Coffee, said she’s upset that nobody ever asked her consent to take her son to the August 26 religious ceremony. She added that she’s even more upset with the school district superintendent Janet Meeks, who was at the revival and did not object to the coach including his students.

Not to worry, it won’t take.
I hope the kid was told the truth about religion and being baptized is nothing to get worried about.
It’s just a bunch of woo hoo with people who believe in an imaginary being.
Easy to laugh off actually.
I don’t mean to start and argument but which is worse?
– a coach doing a secret baptism on your son; or
– a school counselor arranging a secret abortion for your daughter?
(OK, I mean to start and argument 😉 )
right,
Just because YOU are incapable of perceiving something doesn’t make it imaginary for those who can.

Since the Bible says faith is evidence for things unseen, we know you don’t perceive God with your eyes. So which of the remaining senses do you use to perceive God?
And this is what separation of church and state is for. Not to protect the muslims, buddhists nor the atheists but to protect Christians from other Christians.
Is this like having a voodoo curse put on you?
Aww, who cares? A baptism is nothing but a public declaration of your willingness to be accepted into the domain of an imaginary friend. It’s not like the imaginary friend exists to give a damn, anyway.
The age of consent in Kentucky is 16. If the kid is old enough to knock someone up at that age, he is certainly old enough to decide on whether he wants to be baptized.
That being said, his mother should be furious if the school mislead her about the “school” trip. If it was a school sanctioned trip (did they use a school bus?), then the separation of church and state is should apply here.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… religion is a mental illness.
Anyway, this buffoon should be forced to UNbaptize these kids.
More evidence in support of the notion of separation of church & state. I’m a Christian and this makes me shake my head. Baptism is supposed to be a public declaration of your faith. Performing it clandestinely or subversively defeats the purpose. The kid may just have been going along with the crowd if eight other kids went up. Definitely far from the worst thing a teacher could do without parents’ consent but definitely stupid on the coach’s part.
#8-fpp2002-It’s not like the imaginary friend exists…
You’ve got a point. They tell me there is a planet called Neptune but since I’ve never seen it then it must be imaginary. I’ve seen pictures of what people say is Neptune, probably done with photoshop.
Yes, you are right. If you can’t see something, how can you believe it exists?
“right,
Just because YOU are incapable of perceiving something doesn’t make it imaginary for those who can.”
First off, definition of the word perceive is:
“Definitions of perceive on the Web:
* to become aware of through the senses; “I could perceive the ship coming over the horizon”
Greg, it sounds like you can perceive things I cannot.
Which of the 5 senses do you use? Sight? Smell? Sound? Touch? Hearing?
I sure hope it’s sight so you can send pictures!
I’ll take “who gives a shit” for $200, Alex

I’ve always pitied the poor guy who has such a boring life that he has the time to waste posting comments on stories he cares absolutely nothing about.
Friends, family, loved ones, a rewarding career? Nope, he has none of those things. That’s why he’s here. Spending his time commenting on stories he cares nothing about. Pathetic really.
In Kentucky, baptism gets you.
The picture with the original story is hilarious. Not to take away anything from the hilarity of the touchdown jeebus, mind you…
#4, Greg Allen: Yes, it does. The sooner you realize that, the sooner you’ll be free.
#12 Dr. Dodd, we have ways of proving things exist that are hard to see. It’s called a telescope, in your example.
This is not so with an imaginary friend.
#12-fpp2002
Telescope? Probably created by fanatics who want to control the weak minded.
How can Neptune be real? It is only a fantasy created by astronomers so they can line their pockets with donations.
Yes, who the hell does he think he is. He knows that the only thing you can do to a kid without the parents knowledge or permission is to conduct an abortion. Anything else requires permission.
#19, Dr Dodd, wow, you’re on to the conspiracy. There is no Neptune or other planets. It’s all a big scam.
Now that that’s out of the way, please provide proof of the existence of any higher power.
I figure Baptism should be an honor EARNED.
By your heart, soul and HOW you treat the world. NOT just GIVEN.
Iv seen to many baptised that are STILL ASS’S in their OWN right.
the coach can tell his family, “GOD wants me to be unemployed.”
I don’t think the article is really fair. Not once does it drill down to the really important facts, like did he get his steak or not? And what cut of steak was it? Was medium rare, rare or blue? What type of sauce? Wine?
Hopefully the kid was not a muslim, then the kid’s parents would have to kill him!
Do you need your mommies permission to accept Jesus as your savior?
#22-fpp2002-please provide proof of the existence of any higher power.
Gaze into the sky on a dark cloudless night and witness the magnificence of what you see. Look upon the simple leaf of a tree or the rose that opens it peddles for no other reason than to bring beauty into your life.
Study the complexity of life and be amazed at how it all fits together in a delicate balance that simple chance can’t explain.
There is intelligent design everywhere you turn. From the way fresh water is kept separate from salt water to the provided elements necessary to sustain life.
The only people who don’t see the existence of a higher power choose to be blind. Even at that you are taking advantage of God’s gift of freewill.

Just out of curiosity, do you REALLY believe that a rose opens its peddles for no other reason than to bring beauty into your life?
#29-Number 6
So I guess that means I can place a check in the blind category for Number 6.
Thanks for playing.
#30 Dr. Dodd,
I take it from that you don’t intend to answer the question?
What can we take from the fact that just asking you to confirm a statement you made earlier, or take the opportunity to deny it, is too tough a question for you to handle?
