Samira promises to Rock your World

A senior Iranian cleric says women who wear revealing clothing and behave promiscuously are to blame for earthquakes.

‘Many women who do not dress modestly … lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes,’ Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi was quoted as saying by Iranian media. Women in the Islamic Republic are required by law to cover from head to toe, but many, especially the young, ignore some of the more strict codes and wear tight coats and scarves pulled back that show much of the hair. ‘What can we do to avoid being buried under the rubble?’ Sedighi asked during a prayer sermon Friday. ‘There is no other solution but to take refuge in religion and to adapt our lives to Islam’s moral codes.’

Seismologists have warned for at least two decades that it is likely the sprawling capital will be struck by a catastrophic quake in the near future.

Iran is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries, and the cleric’s unusual explanation for why the earth shakes follows a prediction by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that a quake is certain to hit Tehran and that many of its 12 million inhabitants should relocate.

Some experts have even suggested Iran should move its capital to a less seismically active location. Tehran straddles scores of fault lines, including one more than 50 miles (80 kilometres) long, though it has not suffered a major quake since 1830.

Phew! Glad that’s cleared up.

Correlates well with what our own Christian Taliban says is a reason for natural disasters.

I actually find this one less outrageous than a “pact with the devil”.

They cause an earthquake… in my pants!

  6. Improbus says:

Benjamin, as a devout Christian you have no room to talk about delusion.

Ha, ha. === BENJI, Benji, benji.

To pile on after Improbus==after years of dealing with the religitards in the USA, I agree you’d think the Left would understand the Muslims better.

Put it down to faith and dogma triumphing over experience and common sense.

Scantily clad Iranian women make my pants shrink.

  12. Sea Lawyer says:

Ha! at least he admits that the reason to oppress women is because the men can’t control themselves.

  13. Skeptic of the AOBCCS says:

“Earthquakes Caused by Scantily Clad Women”

There’s a big crack in that logic.

  14. Mikey Twit says:

Yeah, keep telling me I have to respect religious belief. I respect it as much as I respect flat earthers.

  15. Airsick says:

Nice to know there is a Westboro Baptist Mosque as well!

I also laugh at the Iranian president urging people to relocate…

  16. Skeptic of the AOBCCS says:

Senior Iranian cleric, Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi, has secretly made a deal with Satan to destroy Tehran and kill President Ahmadinejad. Blaming women for earthquakes is his cover.

    Pass it on.

  17. MikeN says:

I think earthquakes are caused by violations of the Green religion.

  18. bil says:

All of the Iranian women I have met have been total babes.

But what is with these “Iranian clerics”?
Do they really believe that stuff?

Gee I wonder what it means that California is having all these earthquakes?

A stroll down Sunset blvd will give you the answer! Ha!

  19. Improbus says:

Yes, it is a modesty problem not a geological fault problem.

  20. Grandpa says:

Finally an explanation for all those quakes in California. Good job girls!

  21. Killer Duck says:

#3 We just need to send Pat Roberston over to talk with them, he probably agrees with them.

    ditto

OK cause no one else said it. Kind a gives a whole new meaning to rock your world. 22 agreed until they get a bit older, then it gets iffy some of the time.

  24. Buzz says:

It’s a bell curve of effects. Fully clad women: no effect. Fully nude women: no effect. “Scantily clad” women: disaster.

On the other hand, it’s not much of a stretch to think of how much disaster would be caused by scantily clad ayatollahs.

  25. clancys_daddy says:

Buzz thanks for that mental picture, what did we ever do to you?

  26. FRAGaLOT says:

wait, did this Iranian Cleric actually mention the earthquake machines?

  27. Greg Allen says:

One of the main criticisms I have of Islam is its tendency to externalize guilt.

It’s such a convenient doctrine because there is always someone else to blame … usually women.

While not unique to Islam, it seems to have a particular problem with this issue.

This idea of externalized blame and guilt plays into why radical Muslims hate the west so much. As they see it, the west’s sinful culture is causing their culture to stray from submission to Allah.

  28. zybch says:

Of course, the call to relocate is the beginning to prepare the country against the inevitable Israeli-pushed nuclear air strikes that will be carried out by their puppet, the US. Why the hell does the US let itself be an Israeli lapdog?

But at least its nice to see that earthquakes aren’t caused by gay folk any more.

  29. Obvious1 says:

Not that I have any great urge to defend Muslims, but doesn’t this story read like the Daily Mail cribbed it from The Onion without attribution?

As for why the US lets itself be an Israeli lapdog, SOMEbody’s got to do it…

  30. Greg Allen says:

    >> As for why the US lets itself be an Israeli lapdog, SOMEbody’s got to do it…

This is a common belief among Muslims — that Israel tell America exactly what to do.

Conversely they also believe that America tells Israel what to do.

For some reason, this seems to cause on cognitive dissonance whatsoever.
